1. Different type of methods for Research and Data
Primary research is when you obtain the information yourself through direct
efforts, for example, organising a focus group, interviews, surveys and
questionnaires.
Secondary research is when you don’t gather information yourself; you get the
information from sources, for example the internet, library, books, newspapers
and leaflets.
Qualitative Data is when there is information that cannot be measured but you
can only see the potential or the abilities the person has.
Quantitative Data is when the information is measured and then put into a
charts or groups.
Type of Research/Data Pros Cons
Primary Data Quick
Cheap
Very easy to do
Can do what you want,
for example do surveys,
interviews, focus groups
and questionnaire’s
Your results might not be
accurate
Can be very time
consuming
People may be nervous
Secondary Data Very quick
Extremely easy
Information you find
might be out of date
Might not be able to find
all the information
needed
The information might
not be correct, might be
false
Qualitative Data Quite cheap
You don’t not need to
interview a large amount
of people at once
Hard to differentiate
between answers
Expensive
Quantitative Data Answers are collected
quickly
Survey can be reliable
Could be expensive
Won’t be able to search
for enough answers
