Personal Narrative-Sacrifice In America
The rays of cold sun escaping through the translucent clouds below resembled the clear,
peacefulness below me, clearing the freshly fallen heaps of snow. After weeks of both kindness and
crimes, thankfully I have witnessed no murderous intentions. My attention, although it radiates
throughout the world, is focused upon a certain area in America, in which no name is exigent,
however is located in a populous sector of New York. Women with baskets often thrust breadcrumbs
by the handful to be, where upon they hit the ground only three count inches from her feet.
Throughout the cold, every home had smoke rising from the chimney in grey heaps toward the blue
of sky. Voices blared throughout a house of brick, the scent of immortality dwelling in... Show

What Is Attitude Essay
Attitude is a choice in which each of us choose to take but often, we forget we have a choice at
all. Attitude can be a powerful tool for positive action or a poison that cripples your ability to
fulfil your potential. Your attitude determines whether you are living life or life is living you. It
also determines whether you are on the way or in the way. So to speak, self confident people
may suffer setbacks, get dragged down by hard times, or make mistakes, but they still believe they
will be successful and come out being victorious. In the other way round, those who don t believe
in themselves never seem to find their way and due to this, they often seem to drift with the tides.
To everything we do in life, choice is the beginning or starting point and by changing our attitudes,
we automatically change our lives. If you wanta positive attitude, you will need to be committed
enough to work at/on it and once you have discovered those things that have been holding you
back, then it is time to look ahead and analyze where you want to go. To achieving success in life,
it is necessary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The limits of our mind set is enough to determine the boundaries of our future. When we become
fixated on the problems, we become paralyzed but when we look ahead for solutions, we are
indirectly taking responsibility and some measure of control over our lives. Thus, it is up to
you to assign a value or meaning on the point of view you decide to take. You can turn attitude
into action to find purpose and passion but lack of vision will definitely get you lost. Comfort
zones can be treacherous when you believe that, I just can t leave what I m familiar with, no
matter the level of frustration I get. So, it is easy to become angry about standing still but being
afraid to move and if you don t make the move, sooner or later, life makes a move on

Youth Sports Help Children Develop Values, And Teach Children
I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I cannot accept not trying. Michael Jordan. As
said by Michael Jordan, everyone fails at something. No matter how good you are, you will not
always succeed. Youth sports help children develop values, and teach children resilience. Not only
do they teach children values, but they teach children why it is important to be physically active.
Youthsports teach children how to transfer values into the classroom and become a better student.
However, there should be guidelines in place to support youth development and increase a
positive experience. Finally, we need to make sure our athletes are being coached properly, and
effectively. We need to ensure that our youth are being coached by coaches who provide a positive
experience for them, engage parents, and to emphasize future success in and out of sport.
Youth sports are important for a variety of reason. They provide students with physical,
psychological, academic, and social benefits. Some psychological benefits of sport include gaining
self esteem from intrinsic motivation, developing social skills, leadership skills, and teamwork.
Another important psychological benefit includes avenues for young people to take initiative,
meaning that they can commit energy to a goal over time. This can transfer over many areas
including school, work, and sport. There are also academic benefits. These benefits include but are
not limited to ties with physical activity and a higher

Forensic Psychology
Forensic psychology, also known as criminal forensic psychology and investigative psychology, is
a moderately new sub field of psychology and forensics that comprise of licensed psychologists
that have an essential grasp of forensic, clinical, and legal systems. The American Psychological
Association (APA) reports that forensic psychologyrefers to professional practice by any
psychologist working within any sub discipline of psychology (e.g., clinical, developmental, social,

law to assist in addressing legal, contractual, and administrative matters (1). Forensic psychologists

Individuals in this field can apply psychology to the criminal justice system by advising police and
lawyers on mental illness and criminal psychology. They commonly assess matters such as the
competency of individuals to stand trial, consistency of factual information across multiple sources,
offenders state of mind at time of offense, risk of re offending, witness credibility, deciding whether
juvenile defendants should be tried as adults, offer sentencing recommendations, provide an
assessment of juvenile and adult offenders, and fitness for duty assessments. They may also
conduct evaluations on child custody in divorce, visitation risk assessments, and other custody
disputes, or psychological evaluations diagnosing mental illnesses establishing whether a person
should be committed to a mental hospital. In many cases, they may consult with attorneys on
mental health issues in the court system, legal or administrative professionals, in civil lawsuits,
insurance claims, compile official reports or amicus briefs for court, prepare for and provide
testimony in court, serve as an expert witness in trials, provide second opinions, or helping in jury
selection. Forensic psychologists may also coordinate with various legal and medical personnel;

Short Essay On Seaford Short Story
It was the winter of 1993 and I stand there in sleepy, little seaford huddling inside my school
blazer against the chill of the air waiting for my bus to take me to school. The sound of train
wheels screeching on the tracks drift off in the distance and cigarette smoke engulfs me from a
nearby junkie puffing away. Seaford is a quiet suburb on the mornington peninsula, everyone
knows each other and everything about each other. Small news for most suburbs is big news for
seaford because nothing ever happens in little seaford. My bus drops me off at school, students
are rushing to get to there classes and the usual chatter fills the air. I get to my class and take a
seat except I can t help notice that today there is more buzz flowing through the air from my
classmates, i look around and i can see expressions of fear as well as excitement on their faces.
However all i can feel is confusion. What is everyone talking about? The principle makes an
announcement over the speaker most of you are aware of the recent murders in the frankston
seaford area, both these murders were very similar which is why the police suspect that there is a
serial killer targeting young women. All students must not go home alone and must not walk down

Devil s Advocate Essay Examples
As I sit at my lunch table with my friends while they have a discussion about the government, I
begin to ponder how people can find so much enjoyment from having a conversation of such
meager substance and no real input or outside ideas. While I begin to question our beliefs, I do
not initially say anything out of fear of being ostracized from the group. Likewise, I sit in
silence, surrounded but isolated by those that I viewed as friends. I have always been
surrounded by a strictly Democratic crowd. Likewise, as I grew up I adopted these views, and
rarely questioned. As I grew older and began to come in contact with Republicans, I began to take
notice of the harsh divide between people solely based on these stances. I began to wonder how
people could have any other beliefs outside of mine and those around me, but this all changed once

Being as I had surrounded myself with people that shared my views never seemed question their

others would almost always reach a conclusion and agree, and if anyone ever questioned this
conclusion, they would be denied, often through the use of ad hominem attacks rather than any
logical discussion. As time went on and I began to try to understand the other stand points on
certain issues, the frequency of the arguments between me and my friends increase. We began to
resent each other, and I would talk to them less. Eventually I found a new group of friends, a
group of friends that would listen to what one and other had to say and believed that regardless of
what each person s political stance is, they certainly have some form of reasoning behind it, despite
how wrong their reasoning may seem to

The Monster Is Responsible For The Death Of Many People
Frankenstein Essay A monster is responsible for the death of many people. Who is more sinful? the
monster himself, or the creator of the monster? Although the monster is the sinful murderer, the
creator has evaded his responsibilities of containing the monster he has created. Thus, making the
creator the more sinful advocate. In the book Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley, Victor
Frankenstein, a young, curious man filled with aspirations to create a living monster has
accomplished the unthinkable. A monster was born in Victor Frankenstein s apartment, a fairly
small apartment located in Ingolstadt, Germany. When there is a creature that has deadly potential,
there are measures taken to control the potential dangers the creature can inflict on people. Victor s
existence occurred naturally. Meanwhile, the monster s existence blossomed from Victor. Victor
holds the intellectual ability to know what is sinful, and what is not.Victor is the most sinful person
because, the monster holds only the intellectual ability to control his emotions and actions that
Victor has given him. Victor is also more sinful due his horrendous inability to give Frankenstein
(the monster) an ethical conscience. Victor is also more sinful, because it was his responsibility to
contain his monster, and prevent him from imposing violent actions on other humans. Victor
Frankenstein is more sinful than the monster he has created, because the monster holds only the

The Divide Of The Genders
The Divide of the Genders In the past, there have been many debates about the gender gap
happening throughout school systems. Even still to this day, there are many arguments about this
topic. Back then, all there was was problems about education. Guys were more privileged than
the girls were. For the past decades, this issue has stuck around. Many argue that boys are still
more privileged than girls are. But many facts these days say otherwise. There are many people
still that believe that schools are biased towards girls. Many think, That girls are treated as the
second sex in schooland consequently suffer, that boys are accorded privileges and consequently
benefit, so these are usually the things many people seem to presume. So these types of ideas
have the schools being biased towards girls, which had now, ... given rise to an array of laws and
policies intended to curtail the advantages boys have and to redress the harm done to girls
(Sommers). But these statements that are being made are not true. There are many facts that
girls hardly suffer. There are now many, claims that men are now the second sex and that boys
not girls are the ones who are in serious trouble (Kimmel). Yet, in thought, both sides of this
debate are very true. That there is a crisis happening among boys. However, they are also both
wrong. Yes, there are many logical facts proving that boys are now suffering more than the girls
are. Let s begin with the evidence of crisis. The

The Words Of Salman Rushdie
Instead of going through life without meaning, individuals try to pursue their interests with
purpose. Athletes practice everyday, hoping to improve their performance; farmers wake up early
in the morning, readying themselves for a long day of planting; students study hard for exams,
hoping to get a high grade. Although such daily activities may seem disconnected and unrelated, a
sense of purpose and propensity to make a larger contribution to the world pushes these characters
to act. Connecting this idea of society to literature, novelists seek to write with a purpose, too. In
the words of Salman Rushdie, a British novelist, It may be that writers in my position, exiles or

Through this passage ( It may be that writers in my position ... some of whose fragments have been
irretrievably lost (Imaginary Homelands, 10 11)) from Imaginary Homelands, Salman Rushdie
emphasizes the essay s theme of perfection through imperfection (Imaginary Homelands, 19). To
achieve perfection while bringing forth memories, the passage from Imaginary Homelands stresses
how consciously writing about and indicating doubt in one s recollection will help to patch the
shattered state of the broken mirror. Rushdie starts Imaginary Homelands by describing an old
photograph of the house he grew up in. He realizes upon a visit to the home in Bombay years later
that because the 1946 picture is black and white his memory ha[s] begun to see [his] childhood in
the same way, monochromatically (Imaginary Homelands, 9). Wanting to make his writing more
vivid than merely black and white, Rushdie realize[s] how much [he] want[s] to restore the past to
[himself], not in the faded greys of old family album snapshots, but whole, in CinemaScope and
glorious Technicolor (Imaginary Homelands, 9 10). Despite this desire, he explains in the passage
that his physical alienation from India almost inevitably means that we will not be capable of
reclaiming precisely the thing that was lost (Imaginary Homelands, 10). However, rather than
forfeiting to his own mental limitations, he emphasizes that expressing the imperfections and
doubts in his memory can strengthen a story:

Chronic Wasting Disease Analysis
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal neurodegenerative transmissible spongiform
encephalopathy (TSE ) found in some white tailed deer. CWD is associated with diseases such as
Mad Cow disease, Scrapie, and Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. With well supported evidence it is
hypothesized that CWD originated from Scrapie. The causation of CWD is an abnormal form of
PrPcwd prion. This prion is a naturally occurring protein found in mammals. Prions lack genome
and are highly resistant to degradation. Chronic Wasting Diseasecan be transmitted by direct contact
between the animals and/or on resources such as salt licks. With a team, Chris Janelle, studied
white tail deer in Wisconsin. Over a 9,000 square mile sample area, more than 185,000 deer were
sampled by the Wisconsin DNR and more than 2,500 of those deer were CWD positive. The team
collected data from 16,773 tested deer and of those 958 were affected with the disease. They were

Another interesting finding was that CWD affects the lymph nodes first, the brain second, and
shows clinical signs (drooling and weight loss) third. All those affected places no matter what lead
to death. Based on their study there were four assumptions: deterministic transitions (between
states), spatial homogeneity (210 sq. miles), homogenous transmission and mixing (age, sex,
infection), and no migration. It is believed that CWD has been around since the late 60s early 70s,
and derived from scrapie or may be human induced. Janelle stated, Given estimated parameters from
data model is sensitive to adult survival influenced by magnitude of transmission coefficients and
harvest levels. It was noted that in Wisconsin the DNR aren t finding ways to manage CWD, they
are letting it run its course. Also, there were no policy changes among hunting the

Phonological Impairment
Within current research, it is acknowledged that phonological impairment may result in dyslexia. A
study by Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) suggests that while phonological impairment
may be the root cause in some dyslexic patients, visual processing deficits may play a significant
role in dyslexia, especially in patients without phonological difficulties. More specifically, the
research aimed to support the hypothesis that the underlying impairment responsible for the VA
span deficit is visual, not verbal (2012, p. 768). To support the hypothesis, the study was designed
to compare the performance of typically developing children and dyslexic children on visual
attention span tasks with verbal and non verbal stimuli. Non verbal stimuli were included to

The hypothesis that there is a significant visual component in dyslexia was supported by the
research findings and furthermore, is echoed in current developmental dyslexia literature. The
study found that dyslexic children had poorer performance on categorization tasks (letters, digits,
and symbols) for both verbal and non verbal stimuli. However, the study was limited and
contradictory in some findings and demonstrates a need for further research to investigate such
areas. Specifically, future research must address symbol processing and compare performance of
typically developing children to dyslexic children. Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) found
that children with developmental dyslexia demonstrated deficits in symbol processing compared to
normal counterparts, while Ziegler et al. (2010) found that typically developing children and
dyslexic children had equal performance on symbol processing tasks. Additionally, future dyslexia
research could include variables such as crowding effects and binocular vision involvement to
address other visual components that may be involved with dyslexia

How Is Diction Used In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
One of three children Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet born in Amherst,
Massachusetts, 50 miles from Boston, born December 10, 1830. Dickinson is known for her
unusual social life and reserved lifestyle. Dickinson went to Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in
South Hadley But she only attended for one year. Dickinson was a very rare but bright
individual at a young age Dickinson was not allowed to read different types of literature
including Walt Whitman which like Dickinson was a great poet but was discovered after his
lifetime. Her father Edward Dickinson did not allow any types of inappropriate readings in his
home. He was a father who believed in fairness, and personal restraint to a point. When Dickinson

isolated with no one to talk to. In this last paragraph I started early took my dog will be the poem
that I will be discussing. A 135 word poem with only 6 stanzas it was published in 1896. 10 years
after Emily Dickinson died. In stanza 1 Dickinson provides a calm but yet, magical setting for
this poem. The imagery would make you think that you are walking on the ocean. She creates
the magical setting with the quote the mermaids in the basement that looked up at her.
Dickinson makes you think that you are being watched by a mermaid but we all mermaids are
in our imagination. Dickinson feels as if she is worthy of being looked at by something that s
not real. In stanza 2 Dickinson links magically with real events because the frigates is a type of
warship used in the U.S. Navy. The explanation of a warship suggests that Dickinson is aware of
the magical and peaceful parts of her life, such as the sea and the mermaids, but she is also
aware of reality, such as war. While Dickinson openly sees the warship on the sea, she also sees
the mermaids at the bottom of the sea floor looking at her. Dickinson continues to give the sea
human like characterization. In stanza 3 Dickinson talks about her personal life. Dickinson first
describes the sea as a man; Dickinson makes it very clear that No

SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the

small and not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine
Corps as useful. This paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history from after the Civil

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil
Dogs. These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon
afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a
Marine Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root
with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English
Bulldog as their mascot. (Sturkey 2003) Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a
premier fighting force, there were still rumbles among officials. The original culprits of the war
against the Marines were the senior officers in the US Army. This started immediately after WW
I. During the build up for WW II Army General George C. Marshall was quoted as saying that his
job was to keep the Marine Corps, small, very small. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as
making similar comments. They were not the only ones. (wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army

In Cormac McCarthy s novel The Road the man and the boy refer to themselves as the good guys

some of the same qualities as the bad guys . The boy constantly begs his father to be sympathetic

believe the only reason the man gave in so easily in this situation was because they had been very
fortunate in their findings, I sense that the man feared that if he was not at least a tad bit generous,
that bad karma might just shadow him. After the stranger on the road had finished eating the can of

Hannah Senesh One Two Three Summary
Hannah Senesh, author of the poem One Two Three , was a Israeli Hungarian pilot who fought
for the rebel cause during WWII. Senesh was captured by the Hungarian army while she was on
a mission with the Israeli paratroopers to rescue Hungarian Jews being deported to Auschwitz.
Though she was brutally tortured, Senesh never gave the Hungarians information about her
mission in order to protect the locations of her fellow soldiers who were still rescuing Hungarian
Jews. Found guilty of treason, Senesh was executed on November 7, 1944 by a German firing
squad. While she was in prison, Senesh kept a diary, which was published in Hebrew in 1946.
Her poem, One Two Three , was written in just days before her execution. In One Two Three ,
the only literal action is Senesh s counting and pacing her tiny cell. Senesh spends the majority
of the poem reflecting on the passage of time and her impending execution. At this point, she
realizes that her life is almost over and she laments the loss of her future. Though Senesh is
physically losing her life, she s also experiencing loss of control because she is no longer in
charge of her fate. For these reasons, the poem fits the anthology s theme of loss and specifically
fits within the loss of control category. Senesh argues that it s worth risking your life to support
causes you care about. In One Two Three , the meaning behind Senesh s poem is clear: she s
reflecting on her death sentence and the loss of her future. Though her purpose

Consequences Of The American Revolution
Was the American Revolution really necessary? Yes, I think the American Revolution was
necessary and it was inevitable because of the continuing tension and problems between the
colonists and the British, the Revolution would have eventually happened.
As the thirteen British colonies formed and developed, King George was sitting atop his throne
with a grin. The profit that would come out of these territories would surely be an immense benefit
for Britain for many years to come. Then, in the early 1600 s, the king certainly did not realize the
sense of separation the new colonists would feel being so far away from Britain. The longer they
were apart, the more they experienced what life without Britain was like According to the
dictionary, Salutary Neglect refers to the seventeenth and eighteenth century British Crown policy
of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep American colonies obedient to
England. And that is what it initially was Britain putting the colonies on cruise control or autopilot.
But what Britain didn t know was that once the colonies tasted freedom, it would be really hard to
take it back from them, which can be seen through the American Revolution...So the colonists were
angry when salutary neglect ended because Britain was monitoring everything they were doing.
They were no longer allowed to conduct their assembly town meetings and their trade with other
countries was strictly regulated. The end of salutary neglect was what

Ultimately, resulting in Yanukovych fleeing to Russia as the protestors created a new interim
government.
Separatist Protectionism Following Yanukovych s departure to Russia on February 23, 2014,
protests by pro Russian and anti Euromaidan citizens began in Crimea. Consequently, similar
demonstrations began in eastern and southern Ukraine, including the Russophone oblasts of
Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Odessa. As the Russian military annexed Crimea, the social unrest
in the Donbass region of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts escalated into a pro Russian militancy. The
pro Russian insurgency was further rooted in the region as the new Ukrainian government repealed
the regional language laws in the 2012 Ukrainian Constitution, resulting in the prohibition of
Russian as an official language in Ukraine (Sakwa, 2016). Today, the Ukrainian government is
becoming more pro West as it becomes anti Russia (Sakwa, 2016). The opposite holds true for the
pro Russian insurgency in southern and eastern Ukraine, pro Russian at the expensive of their

##amophosis, And The Metamorphosis
Feeling like an outsider in normal in today s society; everyone has felt excluded at least once,
whether it be something as small as a conversation or as a large as not being invited to an event.
However, there are other people who have been completely left out, people who don t fit into a
particular group or ideal and are left out because they are different. Some may argue that they are
excluded because they are misunderstood, but that is not the case. The short story The
Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the video Franz Kafka and Metamorphosis by BBC, and personal
experience prove that people are excluded because they are different from what is considered
normal, and not due to a misunderstanding or being misjudged.
In the short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the main character, Gregor, is turned into
a beetle and is excluded by his family. The reason for his exclusion was because he was different.
He could no longer speak or move humanly, and no longer looked human. Although his family
thinking he could not understand them may be part of the reason for his exclusion, but the fact
that he would have still been excluded eventually debunks the idea. It is human nature to reject
something different from them. For example, Mrs. Samsa, Gregor s mother and had even begged
in paragraph 62, Let me go to Gregor...Don t you understand I have to go to him? . However, when
she finally did see him, she fainted. Even though she had wanted to see him and most likely

Jessica Jones Analysis
The new Netflix series Jessica Jones, which becomes available on November 20, is a marvel legally
(it s produced by Marvel), creatively and, it must be said, surprisingly.
Having built an empire on which the marketing sun never sets, Marvel should now be facing
audience fatigue how many stories of superheroes can this world bear?
It s a question the screenwriter and producer Melissa Rosenberg clearly asked herself before
attempting to adapt the lead character of Alias, a comic book series written in 2001. In answer, she,
with help from her perfectly cast star Krysten Ritter, rewrote the definition of superhuman.
As a teenager, Jessica was exposed to radioactive chemicals in a car crash that killed her family and
put her in a coma for several

Expanding Disney Parks And Resorts
Expanding Disney Parks and Resorts to
New Orleans
The City of New Orleans is a remarkable city and has enormous potential for expansion.
The Big Easy has always been known for the French Quarter, yet New Orleans is so much more
than just a party city . I suspect there is a demand to show the family friendly side of our city. My
proposal is to offer new development in a vigilant and financially responsible manner, while
offering a glimpse of the extraordinarily exciting and expansive visions that I hope to witness in the
future. The market feasibility and infrastructure demands must both be carefully assessed. The
objective of this tourism plan is to show the possibility of developing a
Disney Park and 2 Disney Resorts in New Orleans. While there have been notable failures and
setbacks along its progress, New Orleans is an international tourist attraction. Visitors come here
from all over the globe to witness our history and culture. My proposed plan will be evaluated
based on current trends, possible investment, and future economic impact. Mixing our culture with
a little Disney magic is just what the City of New Orleans needs.
Theme parks play an important role in generating revenue and tourism demand. They are one of the
leading reasons people vacation to many destinations. The theme park market is very competitive
and constantly growing. Walt Disney, creator of Disneyland and Disney World, knew he needed to
create a sustainable tourism plan,

from meeting their daughter s needs. In this case, the eating disturbance may serve the function
of eliciting help from preoccupied parents. Preoedipal and oedipal issues appear to be at the root
of many of these problems (Sours, 1980; Schulman, 2002). Sours (1980), one of the first theorists
to study the role that oedipal and preoedipal issues played in eating disorders, noted that his
anorexic patients demonstrated separation anxieties as well as fear of control. Additional research
offers confirmatory evidence that oedipal and preoedipal issues are salient for women with bulimia
(Sperling, 1978; Wilson, 1992; Schulman, 2002). Therefore, bulimia nervosa(BN) can appropriately
be conceptualized as reflecting both oedipal and preoedipal pathology, depending on the individual
s central conflicts. For individuals whose central conflict reflects an inability to control or inhibit
aggressive and libidinal impulses, bulimic symptoms symbolize one s ambivalence about
aggression and sexuality. Food becomes a medium through which these individuals express and

young woman to remain connected to the mother while also achieving some degree of separation
(p. 129). During my work with two women with Bulimia Nervosa Purging type, I observed a

Interview With A Calculator
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this interview is to distinguish the learning between a high
school student of today s date with a student back in 80 s. The methods we use today for our
math solving problem is very different as we rely more on calculators. Does it really going to
help us remember it after almost 15 years from today? Will we be able to solve a math problem
without a calculator use? I also wanted to analyze the misconception that both groups had regarding
decimal divisionand multiplication. London, Brightlemon and Tribal stated on their website of
Count On some common misconceptions about multiplying decimal numbers, one of them was
about most people ignoring the fact that 0.1 * 0.1 is the same as 1/10 * 1/10 which becomes 1/100...

And mostly young people like the high school pupil often have the misconception that 6 divided by

Erlwanger mentioned in his writing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B
zCt1YBD2VJNFpDOFhyaEsyOG8/view?usp=sha). They often ignore which number is divided by
what. Calculators are also making younger generations mentally handicapped which doesn t
allow them to do a simple calculation without it, they rely more on it rather than trying to solve
it themselves. Consequently, more use of calculators at each and every class is increasing the
misconception of a small number divided by a larger number compared to the other facts I was
considering. Back in the old days, they were not allowed to use calculators at for every
calculation which made them faster at doing it themselves. My cousin took double the time
compared to my father as he was stuck in the division. Although he had done high school math
after decades, he still finished it faster than my cousin as he remembered the steps he had done in
school. My cousin had the misconception that if the denominator is greater than the numerator, it
works the same way as it would work for a smaller denominator. Benny from one of our readings
also had the same problem as my cousin. When he was asked to solve 4/11 and then 11/4. He
answered that both would end up having the same result, ignoring which is bigger: denominator or
numerator. Considering the way my cousin applied his methods for solving the problem of the
division, it shows that he lacks the cognitive structure and its coordination just like Benny. We have
discussed in the class that misconceptions are resistant to change and after the interviews I have
realized that it is true. This is because after the interview was done, my cousin still had the
misconception that 15/6 gives

Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s...
Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s Sonnet 46
In Sonnet 46 of his works about the blond young man, William Shakespeare presents a unique
view on the classic debate about physical lust versus emotional love. The poet struggles to decide
if his feelings are based upon superficial desire and infatuation, represented by the eye (1), or true
love independent of the physical world, symbolized by the heart (1). With a deft movement from
violent imagery in the first two lines to the civilized language of law, Shakespeare dismisses the
commonly accepted view of a battle between the eye and the heart. The diction of warfare denotes
two very separate alien sides clashing in destructive confrontation. ... Show more content on

He even chooses to modify war (1) with the word mortal (1), signifying a conflict to the death
with no possibility for reconciliation or pacification. But in the next line he contradicts himself.
Though the poet continues to utilize martial imagery such as conquest (2), his choice of verbs
subtly changes the meaning. [D]ivide (2) suggests that both parties in the conflict will receive
some portion of the prize, an unlikely occurrence if the eye and heart are truly in mortal war (1).
Shakespeare underscores this change in direction by substituting a trochee for the standard iamb as
the initial foot of the line. Already, the poet is shifting focus away from the idea of warfare and
onto the image of a courtroom.
The second quatrain completes that movement and establishes equality between the two sides.
Words of violence are conspicuously absent from this point on in the poem, replaced by legal
vocabulary, such as plead (5), deny (7), and lies (8). No longer bitter enemies, the eye and the heart
become the plaintiff and the defendant (7) in a civil dispute over the possession of Shakespeare s
love. The diction in this section of the poem also serves to contradict the traditional negative
connotations of infatuation. Physical attraction is often portrayed as course or unclean, but
Shakespeare disagrees. He describes eyes, the tangible representation

The Causes Of Premature Neonates
Introduction
Premature neonates or preterm babies refer to the neonates that are born before 37 weeks of
gestation are over. Given that most of the body organs are not completely developed at this stage,
the neonates have a high risk of developing many complications at birth. A good example of these
organs is the lungs, which completely mature by week 36 of gestation. The surfactant production
does not begin until 20 weeks of gestation age; at this stage of gestation surfactant only present in
small amount and in immature form. The mature surfactant production begins approximately after
35 weeks of gestation age. Even though the lung has mature surfactant at this stage it is not
completely capable of respiratory function. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even if these methods have managed to reduce mortality in preterm infants, they are
associated with serious adverse effects that may be fatal or contribute to chronic conditions later in

According to DiBlasi, even in animal models, the conventional methods cause inflammation of the
lungs and sometimes cause injure to the lungs.1 These techniques also cause redundancy in
alveolar growth and also affect the efficacy of surfactant produced in the animal lung.1 This is a
good signal that these techniques may have serious consequences in the neonate. One of the
adverse effects of invasive and mechanical ventilation is ventilator induced lung injury.1 This
complication is defined by the presence of polytrauma (excessive tidal volume) and shear injury to
the airways, a condition known as atelectrauma.1 Insertion of the endotracheal tube into the lungs
through the airways also causes injury to the lungs and the airways, a condition known as
endotrauma.1
Insertion of the endotracheal tube through the airways is also a painful procedure that may need the
neonate to be sedated first. According to DiBlasi, insertion of the tube may also cause acute airway
injury, emergencies, an infestation of the airway with bacteria,

A Day Keeps The Cancer Away
Death. It s probably one of the things we are most afraid of. We re scared of losing our loved
ones. We re scared of leaving the ones we care most about alone. Unfortunately, death isn t
something that we can control. However, we can prolong it for as much as possible. We all
know the saying, An apple a day keeps the doctor away , but what if I said, Less bacon a day
keeps the cancer away . If you aren t up to date, author, Jeffrey Kluger, has recently released an
article in TIME Magazine that ultimately talks about how bacon and other meats could be held
responsible for causing cancer, specifically colorectal cancer (2015). America s favorite
breakfast food, bacon, seems to be a prime suspect in this case. However, bacon isn t alone in
this. Hot dogs and other red meats are under suspicion as well. So what can we do? Well, we could
go cold turkey, but that doesn t solve anything. Instead, we need to be smarter about the decisions
we make when eating our meat, in order for us to live a healthier lifestyle. Although I m in no
position to tell you what you should do and shouldn t do, that doesn t mean I can t give you a
couple of tips. Before going into detail about what tips I can give you, first let s understand why
we should be smarter about the meat we eat. According to Kluger, In the case of processed meats,
the biggest risks are sodium nitrates, which are added to foods principally as preservatives. Once

Stewardship Of The Army Profession Essay
Stewardship of the Army Profession is the last of the Five Essential Characteristics of the Army
Profession, but in terms of importance, it is just as, if not more important than the other four.
The United States Army s ADRP 1, or Army Doctrinal Reference Publication 1, even defines
stewardship as the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its
five essential characteristics now and into the future . Such importance is placed on this
characteristic because Stewardship of the Army Profession is the one that ensures the other four
are maintained. I sought out the definition of stewardship because despite having spent almost
three and a half years and West Point, I was not entirely sure what the doctrine behind
Stewardship was. In doing this, I felt like I was better prepared for both this paper and ensuring
that the corrections I made were stewarding the profession. With this newly acquired knowledge,
I set out to make my corrections. My first correction for this assignment came from doing my job
as First Sergeant for my company. The correction involved three different cadets, Cadet Private
Michael Avallone, Cadet Private Brian Brooks, and Cadet Private Riley Eck. On 2 October 2016,
the above stated cadets witnessed a cadet from a rival company running around Grant Area with
company spirit gear. These cadets decided to go outside and get into a physical altercation with the

Rules Are Made To Be Broken In The Giver
Rules were made to be broken is a quote that might have some truth to it. Laws have been made in
most, if not all, societies in order to limit the amount of dangerous or immoral acts, which in turn
keeps humankind from being more destructive than constructive. One should be excused from
going against society s ethicsif the action is approved by one with governmental authority or if
one is defending oneself or others. People should have the right to oppose society s rules, given
one with jurisdiction approves of the specific action. In The Giver, Jonas earned his role in

In the novel, The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain, the main character,
Huckleberry Finn has many men in his life that are father figures. These men are both super
eminent and atrocious. Through the use of Huck s parental figures, Mark Twain reveals that
Huckleberry s biological father isn t fit to care for a boy. He also shows the King and Duke are
inferior parents compared to the social outcast Jim. Even though Pap is Huck s biological
father, he is everything a father shouldn t be. For example, he constantly leaves Huck home
alone, confined in his cabin for a long period of time. Every little while he locked me in and
went down to the store, three miles, to the ferry, and traded fish and game for wiskey and
fetched it home and got drunk and had a good time, and licked me. (Twain 35) This quote not
only shows that Huck was left on his own, it also shows that Pap is not a suitable father because
of his drinking problem, and also his abusive behavior. His drinking problem is not only a waste
of money, but it is a dangerous addiction not only for Pap s health, but for Huck s. He chased me

The Budget Deficit For Fiscal Year

interest on our national debt. The federal government must make regular interest payments on all
the money borrowed from other countries. Budget deficits, budget surplus, national debt, deficit

Government income fell from $2.568 trillion in fiscal year 2007 to $2.1 trillion in fiscal year 2009
and didn t recover until 2013. The attacks on 9/11 hurt the recession too; it drove military
spending to a record of $671 billion dollars in 2007.
The US government borrows money from two sources, the public and itself to fill in these budget
deficits. The government borrows money from the public by issuing treasury bills, notes, and
bonds. The treasury bills are for short term borrowing. About 60% of the held American debt
belongs to Americans, foreign lenders hold the other 40%, China is the biggest party that holds
about $800 billion in treasures, and Japan is right behind them at $725 billion.

This poem bears testimony to the act that Iqbal cherished feelings of love and reverence for his

The creed element predominated Iqbal s poetry. His sojourn in Europe and his deeper insight into
the religion and philosophy of Islam convinced him of the universal spirit of Islam. His deep
study of Muslim thought and culture gave his poetry a Muslim flavor. He looked forward to
Islamic fraternity being more far reaching, in the long run, serving as a workable basis of human

His poetry of this period is replete with symbols drawn from the Semitic lands. There are

There can be countless records of the same event, and while many times each record is different,
there are also incidents in which one needs to know every record to piece together what really
happened. The story of the first Thanksgiving takes place in 1621, and is generally known as a
meal that was shared between the Pilgrims and the Indians. For the Pilgrims, this was a harvest
festival, much like one they would have had in England. For the Indians, it was a show of
hospitality from the Pilgrims, similar to what they would expect from visiting another Indian tribe.
With being told only that, one can already see that there are already two very different histories of
the same event recorded. Of greater interest, perhaps, are the different... Show more content on

The History Channel s Desperate Crossing tells the story of the Pilgrims, their journey to
Plymouth, their horrible first year, and finally, the first Thanksgiving. Desperate Crossing follows
the accounts of both Winslow and Bradford fairly well, but begins to deviate slightly. They show
that the Pilgrims and Indians played games, drank, and raced, and competed together, some of
which are only vaguely and briefly alluded to by Winslow, and never by Bradford. The History
Channel also shows a much more tense situation than the impression given from Bradford and
Winslow. According to the History Channel, everything from Massasoitshowing up with his ninety
some men and the Pilgrims firing their arms is all a display of strength from both sides.
The History Channel obviously takes some liberties in their presentation of history. Winslow and
Bradford do not mention anything about the clothing worn, if there was any drinking involved,
if there was silverware, where the feasts were held, and many other seemingly trivial details.
Desperate Crossing makes some assumptions on what took place in 1621, but it does quote both
Winslow and Bradford word for word. While we re shown a picture that may or may not actually
represent what took place at the first Thanksgiving, at the very least, we re given Winslow s and
Bradford s descriptions of it. The History Channel used what was already known from the eye
witness accounts combined with what

Comparing Kessler s Jack And The Beanstalk
Underneath the rambunctiousness of a child s behavior, signs of a more serious condition are
often missed. The symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are exceedingly similar.
Both lack concentration and an ability to prioritize and have an abundance of spontaneity and
energy. This condition was only given its name within the last couple of hundred years, but signs
of this disorder are present in children in fairytales long before ADHD was publicly discussed.
One of these being Jack and the Beanstalk, where Jack exemplifies many signs of this disorder,
especially being easily distracted and incapable of recognizing dangerousness over excitement.
Thus, it can be argued that in the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack is a... Show more content on

Simple tasks are easily forgotten by hyperactive kids, creating a lot of tension between kids and
parents, a pattern that follows through with Jack and his mother ( Kessler np). A common trait
in children with ADHD is forgetfulness a distractibility ( Kessler np). This could prove why
when Jack left to sell the cow he quickly forgot what his mother wanted in exchange for the cow
and was to distracted by the offer of magic beans to give his mother s wishes another thought. At
the man s first offer of normal beans, Jack was very smart and denied the offer, but when the
man threw in the word magic Jack immediately responds, Really? said Jack. You don t say so
(Grimm np). One factor in the mother s anger is how naive Jack is. To be fair, Jack s mother
should of had the sense not to give her son the task of selling their best cow for money, but you
can understand the anger she feels when her son comes home with supposed magic beans instead
of the much needed money. But the anger is easily forgotten when the beans begin to bring her
fortune as well. Instead of shaming Jack for being foolish enough to trade the best cow for beans,
she begins enjoy reaping the benefits of his thievery. Mimesis is also present for single mothers, or
just mothers in general, raising a child with ADHD. As they read, they can relate to the mother s
annoyance in Jack s behavior and the troubling reality of learning how to deal with the many
symptoms that come with the disorder. Parenting on its own is a difficult task, but to include the
struggle of forgetfulness, distractibility, and hyperactivity adds a new level of frustration and
struggles in every day activities for both the child and the

These proceeds collected in the escrow accounts could be released only for the transaction of

Oil for Food Program (Australasian Legal Information Institute, 2017a).
There were number of contraventions in this case. The first issue was regarding paying the 10%
of proceeds as the carriage cost pertaining to the wheat contracts to Alia. This was later paid to the
government. Alia was an intermediary company aiding in the completion of the overall dealings
related to the case under analysis. Iraq was able to get the hard currency from this. Provisions were
made to reimburse the payment portion received by AWB which further strengthened the ability to
accumulate hard currency. In other words, the money from escrow account of UN was being used
for purposes which were other than making payment for the commodities not permitted (Austin and
Reynolds, 2012).
The second breach by AWB is the business contract they had with Tigris (another company). The
contract was focused on recovering significant debt estimated to be of approximately $8 million, for
transporting wheat to Iraq. To achieve this objective, AWB inflated the price of wheat under the
OFFP contracts which eventually resulted in the payment from the

Dalai Lama Beliefs
Tibet is located to the south west of China, bordering India, Nepal, Burma and Bhutan.
Originally, Tibet was made up of 3 provinces: U Tsang, Kham and Amdo. The mainstream
religion in Tibet is Tibetan Buddhism, different than regular Buddhism. Tibet was ruled by the
Dalai Lama, a political and spiritual leader for the Tibetans. The practices of Tibetan Buddhism
are part of the Tibetan people s culture and are incorporated into their everyday life. This way of
life is one that values all beings on Earth and is followed by very few people around the globe.
Today, Tibetis not governed by the Dalai Lama, and the practice of Tibetan Buddhism is

The Wireless Ecosystem Includes Mobile Carriers
Android Write Up
Alvin Cahyadi, Devyani Rana, Emmeline Tjong 1) The wireless ecosystem includes mobile
carriers, software providers, chipset and handset manufacturers, and application providers. They
interlock to create a process where consumers purchase phones and subscribe to plans through
mobile carriers. Chipset and handset manufacturers integrate operating systems created by software
providers into phones that are sold to these carriers. Application developers then use the software as
a platform to upload their creation for smartphone users.
This industry relies very heavily on the performance of each other, making each stakeholder
complements to the other. As each part of the ecosystem improves, it positively affects the
industry as a whole. Mobile carriers gain revenues from intensive use of data, thus allowing
carriers to capitalize on the ARPU rather than selling phones at a high margin. As more
smartphones are bought as bundles with carriers, chipset and handset manufacturers would also
directly benefit from the increase in data sales. Similarly, software providers and application
developers would have the opportunity to reach a large audience by integrating their creation into
these devices. Thus, it is a cycle where the success of one would entail the success of another in the
ecosystem.
In 2008, Android released G1 and Nokia acquired Symbian with the hopes to release a similar open
source software license. As explained above, these would impact the ecosystem

Collier County History Essay
Collier County History Collier County was created as one of many new counties during the
1920 land boom and was named after Barron Gift Collier a businessman who had a vision for the
growth and development of the southwestern coast of Florida. It is the state of Florida s 62nd

swamp buggy racing. Some of the first residents arrived centuries ago after migrating farther south
after the end of the last Ice Age. However, the first permanent settlers did not arrive until the 1880 s
when communities started to form along the respective Naplesand Immokalee territories (Collier
CountyMuseum 2017).
By 1920, numerous railroads and the infamous Tamiami Trail popped up in the heart of the swamp

One week leading up to the wedding is a very busy time for both the bride, groom and both
families, they hold many rituals and traditional events. Firstly there is Haldi, this is a holy bath
where turmeric, oil and water is applied by married women to both the bride and groom. This is
like a spa/ beauty treatment, it makes their skin glow and is intended to make them look
beautiful for the big day and to protect them from evil spirits. Secondly there is Mehendi, this is
an all ladies party where they apply henna designs to the bride s hands, feet, arms and legs. It is
said that the darker the henna the more the husband will love his wife. After this ceremony the
bride does not leave the house until the wedding day. The ladies who attended this are usually
close friends or relatives and it is traditional to sing songs which bless the bride for a prosperous
marriage. After the marriage the bride does not have to do any housework until the Mehendi has

the bride s family. This is a ceremony where they celebrate the bride and reminisce about her
youthful days. They sing folk song and dance, after this they snack on sweet traditional dishes. The

Becoming An Oral Surgeon
As a surgeon you have to have a controlled arrogance. If it s uncontrolled, you kill people, but you
have to be pretty arrogant to saw through a person s chest, take out their heart and believe you

this genetic disorder. A key characteristic of Van der Woude Syndrome is a cleft lip. With that
being said, I had many surgeons in my lifetime, but one man stuck out. Maybe it was because it
was one of the biggest surgeries I had, or maybe, just maybe it was because God had put him in
my path to inspire me for greatness. I cannot honestly say that I remember the first time I met Dr.

Personal Narrative-Sacrifice In America The rays of cold sun escaping through the translucent clouds below resembled the clear, peacefulness below me, clearing the freshly fallen heaps of snow. After weeks of both kindness and crimes, thankfully I have witnessed no murderous intentions. My attention, although it radiates throughout the world, is focused upon a certain area in America, in which no name is exigent, however is located in a populous sector of New York. Women with baskets often thrust breadcrumbs by the handful to be, where upon they hit the ground only three count inches from her feet. Throughout the cold, every home had smoke rising from the chimney in grey heaps toward the blue of sky. Voices blared throughout a house of brick, the scent of immortality dwelling in... • 3. What Is Attitude Essay Attitude is a choice in which each of us choose to take but often, we forget we have a choice at all. Attitude can be a powerful tool for positive action or a poison that cripples your ability to fulfil your potential. Your attitude determines whether you are living life or life is living you. It also determines whether you are on the way or in the way. So to speak, self confident people may suffer setbacks, get dragged down by hard times, or make mistakes, but they still believe they will be successful and come out being victorious. In the other way round, those who don t believe in themselves never seem to find their way and due to this, they often seem to drift with the tides. To everything we do in life, choice is the beginning or starting point and by changing our attitudes, we automatically change our lives. If you wanta positive attitude, you will need to be committed enough to work at/on it and once you have discovered those things that have been holding you back, then it is time to look ahead and analyze where you want to go. To achieving success in life, it is necessary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The limits of our mind set is enough to determine the boundaries of our future. When we become fixated on the problems, we become paralyzed but when we look ahead for solutions, we are indirectly taking responsibility and some measure of control over our lives. Thus, it is up to you to assign a value or meaning on the point of view you decide to take. You can turn attitude into action to find purpose and passion but lack of vision will definitely get you lost. Comfort zones can be treacherous when you believe that, I just can t leave what I m familiar with, no matter the level of frustration I get. So, it is easy to become angry about standing still but being afraid to move and if you don t make the move, sooner or later, life makes a move on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Youth Sports Help Children Develop Values, And Teach Children I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I cannot accept not trying. Michael Jordan. As said by Michael Jordan, everyone fails at something. No matter how good you are, you will not always succeed. Youth sports help children develop values, and teach children resilience. Not only do they teach children values, but they teach children why it is important to be physically active. Youthsports teach children how to transfer values into the classroom and become a better student. However, there should be guidelines in place to support youth development and increase a positive experience. Finally, we need to make sure our athletes are being coached properly, and effectively. We need to ensure that our youth are being coached by coaches who provide a positive experience for them, engage parents, and to emphasize future success in and out of sport. Youth sports are important for a variety of reason. They provide students with physical, psychological, academic, and social benefits. Some psychological benefits of sport include gaining self esteem from intrinsic motivation, developing social skills, leadership skills, and teamwork. Another important psychological benefit includes avenues for young people to take initiative, meaning that they can commit energy to a goal over time. This can transfer over many areas including school, work, and sport. There are also academic benefits. These benefits include but are not limited to ties with physical activity and a higher ... • 6. Short Essay On Seaford Short Story It was the winter of 1993 and I stand there in sleepy, little seaford huddling inside my school blazer against the chill of the air waiting for my bus to take me to school. The sound of train wheels screeching on the tracks drift off in the distance and cigarette smoke engulfs me from a nearby junkie puffing away. Seaford is a quiet suburb on the mornington peninsula, everyone knows each other and everything about each other. Small news for most suburbs is big news for seaford because nothing ever happens in little seaford. My bus drops me off at school, students are rushing to get to there classes and the usual chatter fills the air. I get to my class and take a seat except I can t help notice that today there is more buzz flowing through the air from my classmates, i look around and i can see expressions of fear as well as excitement on their faces. However all i can feel is confusion. What is everyone talking about? The principle makes an announcement over the speaker most of you are aware of the recent murders in the frankston seaford area, both these murders were very similar which is why the police suspect that there is a serial killer targeting young women. • 7. Devil s Advocate Essay Examples As I sit at my lunch table with my friends while they have a discussion about the government, I begin to ponder how people can find so much enjoyment from having a conversation of such meager substance and no real input or outside ideas. While I begin to question our beliefs, I do not initially say anything out of fear of being ostracized from the group. Likewise, I sit in silence, surrounded but isolated by those that I viewed as friends. I have always been surrounded by a strictly Democratic crowd. Likewise, as I grew up I adopted these views, and rarely questioned. As I grew older and began to come in contact with Republicans, I began to take notice of the harsh divide between people solely based on these stances. I began to wonder how people could have any other beliefs outside of mine and those around me, but this all changed once I reached high school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being as I had surrounded myself with people that shared my views never seemed question their own beliefs, this characteristic of mine began to become an issue between me and those I believed to be my friends. If a political issue ever began to find its way in a conversation, the others would almost always reach a conclusion and agree, and if anyone ever questioned this conclusion, they would be denied, often through the use of ad hominem attacks rather than any logical discussion. As time went on and I began to try to understand the other stand points on certain issues, the frequency of the arguments between me and my friends increase. We began to resent each other, and I would talk to them less. Eventually I found a new group of friends, a group of friends that would listen to what one and other had to say and believed that regardless of what each person s political stance is, they certainly have some form of reasoning behind it, despite how wrong their reasoning may seem to ... • 9. The Monster Is Responsible For The Death Of Many People Frankenstein Essay A monster is responsible for the death of many people. Who is more sinful? the monster himself, or the creator of the monster? Although the monster is the sinful murderer, the creator has evaded his responsibilities of containing the monster he has created. Thus, making the creator the more sinful advocate. In the book Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein, a young, curious man filled with aspirations to create a living monster has accomplished the unthinkable. A monster was born in Victor Frankenstein s apartment, a fairly small apartment located in Ingolstadt, Germany. When there is a creature that has deadly potential, there are measures taken to control the potential dangers the creature can inflict on people. Victor s existence occurred naturally. Meanwhile, the monster s existence blossomed from Victor. Victor holds the intellectual ability to know what is sinful, and what is not.Victor is the most sinful person because, the monster holds only the intellectual ability to control his emotions and actions that Victor has given him. Victor is also more sinful due his horrendous inability to give Frankenstein (the monster) an ethical conscience. • 10. The Divide Of The Genders The Divide of the Genders In the past, there have been many debates about the gender gap happening throughout school systems. Even still to this day, there are many arguments about this topic. Back then, all there was was problems about education. Guys were more privileged than the girls were. For the past decades, this issue has stuck around. Many argue that boys are still more privileged than girls are. But many facts these days say otherwise. There are many people still that believe that schools are biased towards girls. Many think, That girls are treated as the second sex in schooland consequently suffer, that boys are accorded privileges and consequently benefit, so these are usually the things many people seem to presume. So these types of ideas have the schools being biased towards girls, which had now, ... given rise to an array of laws and policies intended to curtail the advantages boys have and to redress the harm done to girls (Sommers). But these statements that are being made are not true. There are many facts that girls hardly suffer. There are now many, claims that men are now the second sex and that boys not girls are the ones who are in serious trouble (Kimmel). Yet, in thought, both sides of this debate are very true. That there is a crisis happening among boys. However, they are also both wrong. Yes, there are many logical facts proving that boys are now suffering more than the girls are. • 11. The Words Of Salman Rushdie Instead of going through life without meaning, individuals try to pursue their interests with purpose. Athletes practice everyday, hoping to improve their performance; farmers wake up early in the morning, readying themselves for a long day of planting; students study hard for exams, hoping to get a high grade. Although such daily activities may seem disconnected and unrelated, a sense of purpose and propensity to make a larger contribution to the world pushes these characters to act. Connecting this idea of society to literature, novelists seek to write with a purpose, too. Through this passage ( It may be that writers in my position ... some of whose fragments have been irretrievably lost (Imaginary Homelands, 10 11)) from Imaginary Homelands, Salman Rushdie emphasizes the essay s theme of perfection through imperfection (Imaginary Homelands, 19). To achieve perfection while bringing forth memories, the passage from Imaginary Homelands stresses how consciously writing about and indicating doubt in one s recollection will help to patch the shattered state of the broken mirror. Rushdie starts Imaginary Homelands by describing an old photograph of the house he grew up in. He realizes upon a visit to the home in Bombay years later that because the 1946 picture is black and white his memory ha[s] begun to see [his] childhood in the same way, monochromatically (Imaginary Homelands, 9). Wanting to make his writing more vivid than merely black and white, Rushdie realize[s] how much [he] want[s] to restore the past to [himself], not in the faded greys of old family album snapshots, but whole, in CinemaScope and glorious Technicolor (Imaginary Homelands, 9 10). Despite this desire, he explains in the passage that his physical alienation from India almost inevitably means that we will not be capable of reclaiming precisely the thing that was lost (Imaginary Homelands, 10). However, rather than forfeiting to his own mental limitations, he emphasizes that expressing the imperfections and doubts in his memory can strengthen a story: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Chronic Wasting Disease Analysis Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal neurodegenerative transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE ) found in some white tailed deer. CWD is associated with diseases such as Mad Cow disease, Scrapie, and Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. With well supported evidence it is hypothesized that CWD originated from Scrapie. The causation of CWD is an abnormal form of PrPcwd prion. This prion is a naturally occurring protein found in mammals. Prions lack genome and are highly resistant to degradation. Chronic Wasting Diseasecan be transmitted by direct contact between the animals and/or on resources such as salt licks. With a team, Chris Janelle, studied white tail deer in Wisconsin. Over a 9,000 square mile sample area, more than 185,000 deer were sampled by the Wisconsin DNR and more than 2,500 of those deer were CWD positive. The team collected data from 16,773 tested deer and of those 958 were affected with the disease. They were able to test... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believed that CWD has been around since the late 60s early 70s, and derived from scrapie or may be human induced. A study by Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) suggests that while phonological impairment may be the root cause in some dyslexic patients, visual processing deficits may play a significant role in dyslexia, especially in patients without phonological difficulties. More specifically, the research aimed to support the hypothesis that the underlying impairment responsible for the VA span deficit is visual, not verbal (2012, p. 768). To support the hypothesis, the study was designed to compare the performance of typically developing children and dyslexic children on visual attention span tasks with verbal and non verbal stimuli. The study found that dyslexic children had poorer performance on categorization tasks (letters, digits, and symbols) for both verbal and non verbal stimuli. However, the study was limited and contradictory in some findings and demonstrates a need for further research to investigate such areas. Specifically, future research must address symbol processing and compare performance of typically developing children to dyslexic children. Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) found that children with developmental dyslexia demonstrated deficits in symbol processing compared to normal counterparts, while Ziegler et al. She creates the magical setting with the quote the mermaids in the basement that looked up at her. Dickinson makes you think that you are being watched by a mermaid but we all mermaids are in our imagination. Dickinson feels as if she is worthy of being looked at by something that s not real. In stanza 2 Dickinson links magically with real events because the frigates is a type of warship used in the U.S. Navy. The explanation of a warship suggests that Dickinson is aware of the magical and peaceful parts of her life, such as the sea and the mermaids, but she is also aware of reality, such as war. While Dickinson openly sees the warship on the sea, she also sees the mermaids at the bottom of the sea floor looking at her. Dickinson continues to give the sea human like characterization. Senesh was captured by the Hungarian army while she was on a mission with the Israeli paratroopers to rescue Hungarian Jews being deported to Auschwitz. Though she was brutally tortured, Senesh never gave the Hungarians information about her mission in order to protect the locations of her fellow soldiers who were still rescuing Hungarian Jews. Found guilty of treason, Senesh was executed on November 7, 1944 by a German firing squad. While she was in prison, Senesh kept a diary, which was published in Hebrew in 1946. Her poem, One Two Three , was written in just days before her execution. In One Two Three , the only literal action is Senesh s counting and pacing her tiny cell. Senesh spends the majority of the poem reflecting on the passage of time and her impending execution. At this point, she realizes that her life is almost over and she laments the loss of her future. Though Senesh is physically losing her life, she s also experiencing loss of control because she is no longer in charge of her fate. For these reasons, the poem fits the anthology s theme of loss and specifically fits within the loss of control category. Senesh argues that it s worth risking your life to support causes you care about. Yes, I think the American Revolution was necessary and it was inevitable because of the continuing tension and problems between the colonists and the British, the Revolution would have eventually happened. As the thirteen British colonies formed and developed, King George was sitting atop his throne with a grin. The profit that would come out of these territories would surely be an immense benefit for Britain for many years to come. Then, in the early 1600 s, the king certainly did not realize the sense of separation the new colonists would feel being so far away from Britain. The longer they were apart, the more they experienced what life without Britain was like According to the dictionary, Salutary Neglect refers to the seventeenth and eighteenth century British Crown policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep American colonies obedient to England. And that is what it initially was Britain putting the colonies on cruise control or autopilot. But what Britain didn t know was that once the colonies tasted freedom, it would be really hard to take it back from them, which can be seen through the American Revolution...So the colonists were angry when salutary neglect ended because Britain was monitoring everything they were doing. However, there are other people who have been completely left out, people who don t fit into a particular group or ideal and are left out because they are different. Some may argue that they are excluded because they are misunderstood, but that is not the case. The short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the video Franz Kafka and Metamorphosis by BBC, and personal experience prove that people are excluded because they are different from what is considered normal, and not due to a misunderstanding or being misjudged. In the short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the main character, Gregor, is turned into a beetle and is excluded by his family. The reason for his exclusion was because he was different. He could no longer speak or move humanly, and no longer looked human. Although his family thinking he could not understand them may be part of the reason for his exclusion, but the fact that he would have still been excluded eventually debunks the idea. Preoedipal and oedipal issues appear to be at the root of many of these problems (Sours, 1980; Schulman, 2002). Sours (1980), one of the first theorists to study the role that oedipal and preoedipal issues played in eating disorders, noted that his anorexic patients demonstrated separation anxieties as well as fear of control. Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s Sonnet 46 In Sonnet 46 of his works about the blond young man, William Shakespeare presents a unique view on the classic debate about physical lust versus emotional love. The poet struggles to decide if his feelings are based upon superficial desire and infatuation, represented by the eye (1), or true love independent of the physical world, symbolized by the heart (1). With a deft movement from violent imagery in the first two lines to the civilized language of law, Shakespeare dismisses the commonly accepted view of a battle between the eye and the heart. He even chooses to modify war (1) with the word mortal (1), signifying a conflict to the death with no possibility for reconciliation or pacification. But in the next line he contradicts himself. Though the poet continues to utilize martial imagery such as conquest (2), his choice of verbs subtly changes the meaning. [D]ivide (2) suggests that both parties in the conflict will receive some portion of the prize, an unlikely occurrence if the eye and heart are truly in mortal war (1). Shakespeare underscores this change in direction by substituting a trochee for the standard iamb as the initial foot of the line. Already, the poet is shifting focus away from the idea of warfare and onto the image of a courtroom. The second quatrain completes that movement and establishes equality between the two sides. Words of violence are conspicuously absent from this point on in the poem, replaced by legal vocabulary, such as plead (5), deny (7), and lies (8). No longer bitter enemies, the eye and the heart become the plaintiff and the defendant (7) in a civil dispute over the possession of Shakespeare s love. Cool Hand Luke is not an exception to these films. However, it does contain a main character with a nonchalant type attitude that irks his superiors and earns respect from his fellow prisoners, which is not often seen. This leads to him becoming a very popular character in the prison, specifically to his new admirer Dragline. Dragline the former head honcho among the prisoners grew quite fond of Luke due to his admiration for Luke s coolness. This new relationship would cause Dragline as well as Luke... Dragline also saw this as an opportunity and jumped on the truck as it sped away. Luke and Dragline made it to a river to hide the truck and Dragline talks about how Luke fooled the bosses. Luke replies you can t fool them about something like that, they broke me (Rosenberg, Caroll, 1967). Although all through the movie we see that Dragline s core belief is that he should stay within the laws of the captain he breaks these beliefs to escape with Luke (Glavin, 2015a). Laws have been made in most, if not all, societies in order to limit the amount of dangerous or immoral acts, which in turn keeps humankind from being more destructive than constructive. One should be excused from going against society s ethicsif the action is approved by one with governmental authority or if one is defending oneself or others. People should have the right to oppose society s rules, given one with jurisdiction approves of the specific action. In the novel, The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain, the main character, Huckleberry Finn has many men in his life that are father figures. These men are both super eminent and atrocious. Through the use of Huck s parental figures, Mark Twain reveals that Huckleberry s biological father isn t fit to care for a boy. He also shows the King and Duke are inferior parents compared to the social outcast Jim. Even though Pap is Huck s biological father, he is everything a father shouldn t be. For example, he constantly leaves Huck home alone, confined in his cabin for a long period of time. Every little while he locked me in and went down to the store, three miles, to the ferry, and traded fish and game for wiskey and fetched it home and got drunk and had a good time, and licked me. (Twain 35) This quote not only shows that Huck was left on his own, it also shows that Pap is not a suitable father because of his drinking problem, and also his abusive behavior. His drinking problem is not only a waste of money, but it is a dangerous addiction not only for Pap s health, but for Huck s. He chased me round and round the place with a clasp knife, calling me the Angel of Death, and saying he would kill me, and then I couldent come for him no more. There can be countless records of the same event, and while many times each record is different, there are also incidents in which one needs to know every record to piece together what really happened. The story of the first Thanksgiving takes place in 1621, and is generally known as a meal that was shared between the Pilgrims and the Indians. For the Pilgrims, this was a harvest festival, much like one they would have had in England. For the Indians, it was a show of hospitality from the Pilgrims, similar to what they would expect from visiting another Indian tribe. With being told only that, one can already see that there are already two very different histories of the same event recorded. Of greater interest, perhaps, are the different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The History Channel s Desperate Crossing tells the story of the Pilgrims, their journey to Plymouth, their horrible first year, and finally, the first Thanksgiving. Desperate Crossing follows the accounts of both Winslow and Bradford fairly well, but begins to deviate slightly. They show that the Pilgrims and Indians played games, drank, and raced, and competed together, some of which are only vaguely and briefly alluded to by Winslow, and never by Bradford. The History Channel also shows a much more tense situation than the impression given from Bradford and Winslow. According to the History Channel, everything from Massasoitshowing up with his ninety some men and the Pilgrims firing their arms is all a display of strength from both sides. The History Channel obviously takes some liberties in their presentation of history. Winslow and Bradford do not mention anything about the clothing worn, if there was any drinking involved, if there was silverware, where the feasts were held, and many other seemingly trivial details. Desperate Crossing makes some assumptions on what took place in 1621, but it does quote both Winslow and Bradford word for word. At the man s first offer of normal beans, Jack was very smart and denied the offer, but when the man threw in the word magic Jack immediately responds, Really? said Jack. You don t say so (Grimm np). One factor in the mother s anger is how naive Jack is. The Wireless Ecosystem Includes Mobile Carriers Android Write Up Alvin Cahyadi, Devyani Rana, Emmeline Tjong 1) The wireless ecosystem includes mobile carriers, software providers, chipset and handset manufacturers, and application providers. They interlock to create a process where consumers purchase phones and subscribe to plans through mobile carriers. Chipset and handset manufacturers integrate operating systems created by software providers into phones that are sold to these carriers. Application developers then use the software as a platform to upload their creation for smartphone users. This industry relies very heavily on the performance of each other, making each stakeholder complements to the other. As each part of the ecosystem improves, it positively affects the industry as a whole. Mobile carriers gain revenues from intensive use of data, thus allowing carriers to capitalize on the ARPU rather than selling phones at a high margin. As more smartphones are bought as bundles with carriers, chipset and handset manufacturers would also directly benefit from the increase in data sales. Similarly, software providers and application developers would have the opportunity to reach a large audience by integrating their creation into these devices. Thus, it is a cycle where the success of one would entail the success of another in the ecosystem.
