1. TOPIC: DICOTS PLANT BODY
NAME : FAZILA FATIMA
ROLL.NO: 2001858
SUBJECT:BOTANY
2. Plants are broadly classified into two
categories
Angiosperms (flowering plants)
Gymnosperms ( i.e. naked seeds or non flowering
plants)
Two basic groups of flowering plants
are ;
Monocotyledons
Dicotyledons
3.
4. Dicotyledon byname dicot, any member of the
flowering plants or angiosperms that has a pair
of leaves or cotyledons in the embryo of the
seed.
Examples of dicot plant families are as follows:
Leguminosae
Mimosaceae
5. Out of the 400 plant families
that belong to the group of angiosperms
about 80 are monocots rest all are dicots.
6. Dicot plants differ in structures of their
seeds
leaves
stem
flowers
from the monocots on the basis of Cotyledons.
7. Dicot roots have
Central taproot meaning
they form a single thick
root with lateral branches
that grows deep into the
soil.
8. The Dicot Stem contains
vascular bundles arranged in
a ring around the pith.
Vascular bundle is conjoint,
collateral and open.
Stem contains two cotyledon
or embryonic leaf called as
dicotyledonous stem or dicot
stems.
9. Their leaves are simple, broad, petiolate or
sessile.
Their margin is serrate and their apex is
acute.
The veins are actually netted or webbed on
the whole surface of the leaf.
10. The flower parts are
Dicot usually present in fours or fives
Sometimes they are found in multiples of
either number.
These flower parts include ;
Petals, sepals and the reproductive parts of
the plant.
11.
12. There are two cotyledons in the seeds of these plants.
That actually emerge above the soil when the seed
germinates.
They then turn green and form the first two leaves of
the new plant.
13. Conclusion
Dicot plants usually have ;
Flower with petals in multiples of four or five
Large leaf veins that will be netlike instead of
all being parallel
Their roots usually grow with a taproot .
Having two embryonic leaves.
