Multifunctional grid tied pv system using modified klms controlAsoka Technologies
This paper deals with the modified kernel least mean square (KLMS) control strategy in double-stage, solar photovoltaic (PV) grid tied system to enhance the power quality at common coupling point (CCP). This proposed control algorithm has less oscillations, fast convergence, fast dynamic response and good steady state performance. A control strategy is used to extract the fundamental active current component of load and generates reference grid current for a DC-AC converter. The proposed modified KLMS control mitigates multiple power quality concerns such as harmonics reduction, unity power factor and load balancing. The dynamic performance of proposed system is confirmed into the MATLAB\Simulink environment. Test results on hardware implementation are presented at varying solar irradiation levels and load unbalancing. Test results are found satisfactory and total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid currents are observed well within the IEEE-519 standard.
A Simple Active and Reactive Power Control for Applications of Single-Phase E...Asoka Technologies
Aiming at effective power management in microgrids with high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs), the paper proposes a simple power control for the so-called second-generation, single-phase electric springs (ES-2), that overcomes the shortcomings of the existing ES control methods. By the proposed control, the unpredictable power generated from RESs is divided into two parts, i.e. the one absorbed by the ES-2 that still varies and the other injected into the grid that turns to be controllable, by a simple and accurate signal manipulation that works both at steady-state and during RES transients. It is believed that such a control is suitable for the distributed power generation, especially at domestic homes.
In the paper, the proposed control is supported by a theoretical background. Its effectiveness is at first validated by simulations and then by experiments. To this purpose, a typical RES application is considered, and an experimental setup is arranged, built up around an ES-2 implementing the proposed control. Testing of the setup is carried out in three steps and proves not only the smooth operation of the ES-2 itself, but also its capability in running the application properly.

The three-phase synchronous reference frame phase-locked loop (SRF-PLL) is widely used for synchronization applications in power systems. In this paper, a new control strategy for three-phase grid-connected LCL inverters without a PLL is presented. According to the new strategy, a current reference can be generated by using the instantaneous power control scheme and the proposed positive-sequence voltage detector. Through theoretical analysis, it is indicated that a high-quality grid current can be produced by introducing the new control strategy. In addition, a kind of independent control for reactive power can be achieved under unbalanced and distorted grid conditions. Finally, the excellent performance of the proposed control strategy is validated by means of simulation and experimental results.

Electric power networks must be continuously monitored. Such monitoring can be efficiently accomplished by placing phase measurement units (PMUs) at selected network locations. Due to the high cost of the PMUs, their number must be minimized. The problem of monitoring an electric power system by placing as few phase measurement units (PMUs) in the system as possible is closely related to the well-known domination problem in graphs. In this work, we solve the power domination problem for W K -recursive networks.
Nowadays, the location and sizing of distributed generation (DG) units in power system network are crucial to be at optimal as it will affect the power system operation in terms of stability and security. In this paper, a new technique termed as Immune Log-Normal Evolutionary Programming (ILNEP) is applied to find the optimal location and size of distributed generation units in power system network. Voltage stability is considered in solving this problem. The proposed technique has been tested on the IEEE 26 bus Reliability Test System to find the optimal location and size of distributed generation in transmission network. In order to study the performance of ILNEP technique in solving DG Installation problem, the results produced by ILNEP were compared with other meta-heuristic techniques like evolutionary programming (EP) and artificial immune system (AIS). It is found that the proposed technique gives better solution in term of lower total system loss compared to the other two techniques.

GMC: Greening MapReduce Clusters Considering both Computation Energy and Cool...Tarik Reza Toha
Increased processing power of MapReduce clusters generally enhances performance and availability at the cost of substantial energy consumption that often incurs higher operational costs (e.g., electricity bills) and negative environmental impacts (e.g., carbon dioxide emissions). There exist a few greening methods for computing clusters in the literature that focus mainly on computational energy consumption leaving cooling energy, which occupies a significant portion of the total energy consumed by the clusters. To this extent, in this paper, we propose a machine learning based approach named as Green MapReduce Cluster (GMC) that reduces the total energy consumption of a MapReduce cluster considering both computational energy and cooling energy. GMC predicts the number of machines that results in minimum total energy consumption. We perform the prediction through applying different machine learning techniques over year-long data collected from a real setup. We evaluate performance of GMC over a real testbed. Our evaluation reveals that GMC reduces total energy consumption by up to 47% compared to other alternatives while experiencing marginal throughput degradation in a few cases.

This present paper includes the study Load Frequency Control (LFC) of power systems with several nonlinearities
like Generation Rate Constraint(GRC) and Boiler Dynamics (BD) including Superconducting
Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) units using Type-2 Fuzzy System (T2FS) controllers . Here, Load
frequency control problem is dealt with a three – area interconnected system of Thermal-Thermal-Hydal
power system by observing the effects and variations of dynamic responses employing conventional
controller, Type-1 fuzzy controller and T2FS controller considering incremental increase of step
pertubations by 10% in the load. The salient advantage of this controller is its high insensitivity to large
load changes and plant parameter variations even in the presence of non-linearities. As the non-linearities
were considered in the system, the conventional and classical Fuzzy controllers does not provide adequate
control performance with the consideration of above nonlinearities. To overcome this drawback T2FS
Controller has been employed in the system. Therefore, the efficacy of the proposed T2FS controller is
found to be better than that of conventional controller and Type-1 Fuzzy controller in cosidreration with
overshoot, settling time and robustness.

Automatic Generation Control of Multi-Area Power System with Generating Rate ...IJAPEJOURNAL
In a large inter-connected system, large and small generating stations are synchronously connected and hence all stations must have the same frequency. The system frequency deviation is the sensitive indicator of real power imbalance. The main objectives of AGC are to maintain constant frequency and tie-line errors with in prescribed limit. This paper presents two new approaches for Automatic Generation Control using i) combined Fuzzy Logic and Artificial Neural Network Controller (FLANNC) and ii) Hybrid Neuro Fuzzy Controller (HNFC) with gauss membership functions. The simulation model is created for four-area interconnected power system. In this four area system, three areas consist of steam turbines and one area consists of hydro turbine. The components of ACE, frequency deviation (F) and tie line error (Ptie) are obtained through simulation model and used to produce the required control action to achieve AGC using i) FLANNC and ii) HNFC with gauss membership functions. The simulation results show that the proposed controllers overcome the drawbacks associated with conventional integral controller, Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), Artificial Neural Network controller (ANNC) and HNFC with gbell membership functionsv

Load frequency control in co ordination with frequency controllable hvdc link...eSAT Journals
Abstract
In this paper decentralized load frequency control (LFC) for suppression of oscillations in multi-area power systems using fuzzy logic
controller was studied. A three area system is considered in which areas 1 and 2 and areas 1 and 3 are connected by HVDC
transmission links and areas 2 and 3 are connected by normal AC tie-line. The performance of the fuzzy logic controller is compared
with the conventional PI controller and the simulation results shows that fuzzy logic controller is very effective enhancing better
damping performance in non-linear conditions.

Load Frequency Control in Three Area Power System using Fuzzy Logic Controllerijtsrd
In interconnected power system load frequency control has been used extensively. This study presents an application of a fuzzy gain scheduled proportional and integral (FGPI) controller for load-frequency control of a three-area electrical interconnected power system. The main aim is to design a FGPI controller that can ensure good performance. The paper present analysis on dynamic performance of Load Frequency Control (LFC) of three area interconnected thermal non-reheat power system by the use of Fuzzy Intelligence. The fuzzy rules are developed to ensure there is minimum frequency deviation occur when load is changed. The proposed controller limits the frequency deviations effectively as compared to conventional controller. The results has been verified by using MATLAB/Simulink software. PSO is a population-based
optimization method first proposed by
Eberhart and Colleagues. Some of the
attractive features of PSO include the
ease of implementation and the fact
that no gradient information is
required. It can be used to solve a
wide array of different optimization
problems.
Frequency control is performed with PI control for this interconnected
system. The powerful computationally intelligent (PSO) technique has
been applied for the optimization of various controller gains and
system parameters. Simulation studies of the systems have been
performed in MATLAB / SIMULINK, which show that the effective
PI controller to minimize the frequency deviation can be designed
when considering GRC.
