SUSE Linux Enterprise is the most interoperable platform for mission-critical computing - both in traditional client-server and in virtual environments - from the desktop to the datacenter. In this talk some basic information about the data for the monitoring of SUSE LINUX and which opportunities for monitoring SUSE LINUX offers will be given.
Dell and SUSE have collaborated to bring to our customers an enterprise ready open source private cloud solution with many advanced capabilities. This is the slide set from a recent Webinar where Dell and Suse presented an overview of this cloud solution. The main features of this solution include:
Automated install process using Crowbar
Rapid setup and configuration of cloud environment
Easy expansion of cloud environment

Deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 7 on Lenovo Performance...Principled Technologies
The proof-of-concept private cloud test infrastructure matched the minimal non-high availability configuration in the Lenovo Cloud Reference Architecture for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform. Our testbed consisted of two Lenovo System x3650 M5 compute nodes, a single Lenovo System x3650 M5 Cinder node, a Lenovo System x3550 M5 OpenStack controller node, and a Lenovo System x3550 M5 Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Director server. We used this small-scale private cloud test infrastructure to demonstrate the setup and functionality of the Lenovo OpenStack reference architecture. As it is a scale out architecture, it can grow to a significant size and can support additional VMs and workloads, simply by adding more compute and storage nodes. See the Lenovo Cloud Reference Architecture for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for other sizing and high availability options.
Also worth noting is the validation testing performed as a part of this deployment guide. Our relational database workload was I/O intensive, which placed particular stress on the single Cinder storage node. Even so, this entry-level configuration showed it had room to support additional RAM and CPU-focused workloads beyond what was tested. A scalable cloud architecture, such as this Lenovo OpenStack reference architecture, is capable of supporting many different types of workloads, such as DevOps applications, Big Data applications (e.g. Hadoop® and Apache™ Spark), and distributed NoSQL database applications (e.g. Cassandra and MongoDB®). Given the flexibility of the Lenovo Cloud Reference Architecture for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, if one needed additional capacity, one could simply add additional compute nodes for compute-intensive applications or add additional Cinder storage nodes for storage-intensive applications.
A private cloud infrastructure can bring your business flexibility and scalability while providing greater control over your infrastructure, applications, and data. Within this reference architecture, Lenovo’s Performance Rack Servers, Lenovo XClarity Administrator tool and Red Hat OpenStack Platform software are designed to come together to deliver a customizable private cloud solution to meet a wide variety of business workloads. As demonstrated in this guide, deploying and managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 7 with XClarity Administrator on your Lenovo System x3650 M5 and x3550 M5 servers is a straightforward process that can result in a scalable, flexible, and reliable private cloud infrastructure.

Extending OpenShift Origin: Build Your Own Cartridge
Presenters: Bill DeCoste
Cartridges allow developers to provide services running on top of the Red Hat OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). OpenShift already provides cartridges for numerous web application frameworks and databases. Writing your own cartridges allows you to customize or enhance an existing service, or provide new services. In this session, the presenter will discuss best practices for cartridge development and the latest changes in the OpenShift cartridge support.
* Latest changes made in the platform to ease cartridge development
* OpenShift Cartridges vs. plugins
* Outline for development of a new cartridge
* Customization of existing cartridges
* Quickstarts: leveraging a cartridge or cartridges to provide a complete application
Putting The PaaS in OpenStack with Diane Mueller @RedHat OpenShift Origin
RedHat has created it's own OpenStack distribution that is now in preview and still a bit rough around the edges, but promises to include what is needed to deploy & evaluate a truly & complete Open Cloud environment. In addition, Red Hat wants there to be a widely used open-source community developed PaaS model for the cloud which includes being open to participation by a community of peers.
To really create a open cloud environment and to make it useful, you need to complete the stack with an PaaS. Just getting a cloud environment up and running is no longer enough. The challenge that OpenStack faces is how to get people, applications and services working on OpenStack out of the box.
One approach to the problem is to combining all the necessary pieces that go into building an OpenStack cloud (compute, storage, networking, management) with a platform as a service (PaaS) into your OpenStack distribution.
OpenShift Origin project is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, a permissive and widely-used open source license, which was selected so that the code would be available for use by the broadest range of
individuals and organizations. This is the same license chosen by the OpenStack project, for much the same reason. This license is already well known and understood by individuals and organizations already involved in cloud computing and in enterprise scale open source development.
In this session, I'll discuss RedHat's efforts with OpenStack, Fedora, & OpenShift Origin to create a more complete OpenStack distribution. Our community initiatives to ensure Origin easily and seamlessly integrates on any OpenStack distribution and how to you can add Origin into your own OpenStack distributions.

Oscon 2017: Build your own container-based system with the Moby projectPatrick Chanezon
Build your own container-based system
with the Moby project
Docker Community Edition—an open source product that lets you build, ship, and run containers—is an assembly of modular components built from an upstream open source project called Moby. Moby provides a “Lego set” of dozens of components, the framework for assembling them into specialized container-based systems, and a place for all container enthusiasts to experiment and exchange ideas.
Patrick Chanezon and Mindy Preston explain how you can leverage the Moby project to assemble your own specialized container-based system, whether for IoT, cloud, or bare-metal scenarios. Patrick and Mindy explore Moby’s framework, components, and tooling, focusing on two components: LinuxKit, a toolkit to build container-based Linux subsystems that are secure, lean, and portable, and InfraKit, a toolkit for creating and managing declarative, self-healing infrastructure. Along the way, they demo how to use Moby, LinuxKit, InfraKit, and other components to quickly assemble full-blown container-based systems for several use cases and deploy them on various infrastructures.

The CE workgroup of Linux Foundation has started a project to share the work of maintaining long-term support for an embedded distribution, by leveraging the work of the Debian and Debian LTS project. Debian gives you pre-compiled binary packages but the meta-debian layer enables to install customized packages to create similar or smaller images. If both usecases are able to share the source code, it is good to share the maintenance effort.
In this talk, Yoshitake will describe the details of meta-debian which provides a meta layer for the Poky build system. This talk will to gives the latest status, technical details and lessons learned from its development.

Leveraging Docker for Hadoop build automation and Big Data stack provisioningDataWorks Summit
Apache Bigtop as an open source Hadoop distribution, focuses on developing packaging, testing and deployment solutions that help infrastructure engineers to build up their own customized big data platform as easy as possible. However, packages deployed in production require a solid CI testing framework to ensure its quality. Numbers of Hadoop component must be ensured to work perfectly together as well. In this presentation, we'll talk about how Bigtop deliver its containerized CI framework which can be directly replicated by Bigtop users. The core revolution here are the newly developed Docker Provisioner that leveraged Docker for Hadoop deployment and Docker Sandbox for developer to quickly start a big data stack. The content of this talk includes the containerized CI framework, technical detail of Docker Provisioner and Docker Sandbox, a hierarchy of docker images we designed, and several components we developed such as Bigtop Toolchain to achieve build automation.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.
Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.

SUSE Linux Enterprise for Raspberry Pi
Differences Compared to Raspbian
Based on Upstream Kernel
While Raspbian uses a kernel with modifications especially for the Raspberry Pi, SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server for the Raspberry Pi uses the SUSE Linux Enterprise kernel for AArch64.
64-bit ARM AArch64 Instruction Set
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for the Raspberry Pi is the first commercial distribution for the
Raspberry Pi using the ARM 64-bit AArch64 instruction set.
Boot Process
In Raspbian, the kernel is loaded directly. This is not supported by SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
for the Raspberry Pi, where the U-Boot boot loader is used to provide an EFI boot environment. A
GRUB2 EFI binary is chain loaded to provide a graphical boot screen.
Root Filesystem
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for the Raspberry Pi uses btrfs as the file system for the root
partition. Compression is enabled by default for better SD-Card performance.
