Why OpenStack on UCS? An Introduction to Red Hat and Cisco OpenStack SolutionElizabeth Sale
The presentation discusses the current status of OpenStack as well as running UCSO, the Cisco and Red Hat partnership for OpenStack solutions.
Topics include:
What is OpenStack? Why OpenStack?
Trends in the Data Center
What is UCSO?
Why OpenStack on UCS?
OpenStack and the Cisco Neutron
I work at Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source software solutions and the company ranked #23 Best Place to Work in 2014 by Glassdoor.com. I'm part of the Solution Engineering Team, responsible for developing innovative IT solutions that drive business value focusing on DevOps and Platform as a Service.
For the past 20 years, Red Hat's open source software development model has produced high-performing, cost-effective solutions. Our model mirrors the highly interconnected world we live in—where ideas and information can be shared worldwide in seconds. Today, more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Red Hat. We offer the only fully open technology stack, from operating system to middleware, storage to cloud and virtualization solutions. We also provide a variety of services, including award-winning support, consulting, and training.
A complete Open Source cloud: Storage, Virt, IaaS, PaaSDave Neary
You can do everything in your datacenter with open source these days. With GlusterFS, oVirt, OpenStack, OpenShift, all running on CentOS or Fedora and orchestrated with the Foreman, you can run a complete open source cloud where all the pieces talk to each other and leverage integration points for no money.
If your business is considering using a hyperconverged
computer/storage solution rather than disparate dedicated appliances, a Nutanix storage cluster powered by Dell XC630 appliances could bring many benefits. Thanks to its powerful Dell servers with Intel processors, this space-efficient solution was able to handle nine SQL Server 2014 OLTP workloads at over 420,000 OPM, 160 mailboxes in Microsoft Exchange 2013, and file/print and web server disk workloads; that’s enough to meet your present demands and still have room for future growth. With software-defined tiered storage, high availability, and a redundant network architecture, the hyperconverged solution based on Dell XC630 appliances can help your business get the job done.

"Deploying Private PaaS with ActiveState Stackato”, Diane Mueller, Director Cloud Evangelism, ActiveState
This presentation covers building and deploying a Private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) on CloudStack. Diane Mueller, ActiveState's Cloud Evangelist shows how to deploy ActiveState's Stackato, an enterprise-ready multi-lingual Private PaaS that runs on any cloud and supports deploying and managing web & mobile applications in any language including Java, .Net, Python, Perl, PHP Ruby, Node.js, Clojure, Scala and Erlang - to name a few. Using the CloudStack UI, Diane demonstrates how to configure and deploy the PaaS and then shows how easy it is to push a live application in under an hour.
Considerations for Operating An OpenStack CloudMark Voelker
My talk from All Things Open 2014
Over the past four years, OpenStack has become a widely adopted cloud operating system. Cloud computing has made many tasks like creating new servers and networks easy for end users by creating abstractions above the infrastructure. However, cloud operators need to maintain not only the cloud operating system itself, but all of the underpinning systems beneath it. The challenges of managing a set of distributed systems isn’t small, but with proper tooling is well within reach. This talk will discuss considerations for cloud operators such as logging, storage, monitoring, high availability, configuration management with a focus on OpenStack clouds with a focus on open source solutions for common issues encountered when operating an OpenStack cloud. We’ll consider data gathered from the community and discuss “day 1″ and “day 2″ concerns as well as established patterns and technology choices among OpenStack deployers today.

OSCON: Unikernels and Docker: From revolution to evolutionDocker, Inc.
with Richard Mortier and Anil Madhavapeddy
Unikernels are a growing technology that augment existing virtual machine and container deployments with compact, single-purpose appliances. Two main flavors exist: clean-slate unikernels, which are often language specific, such as MirageOS (OCaml) and HaLVM (Haskell), and more evolutionary unikernels that leverage existing OS technology recreated in library form, notably Rump Kernel used to build Rumprun unikernels.
Learn what Docker is, how MySQL fits in, and why it makes sense to use them together. You’ll then learn how to leverage Oracle’s official MySQL Docker containers to improve your own development operations.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
