How to overcome agile methodology challengesBugRaptors
One of the most significant elements for QA in agile projects is having a good understanding of the agile development procedures and processes. Many agile companies follow the Scrum framework for delivering quality software.
Strategies for Distributed Agile TestingAnand Bagmar
Distributed organisation / projects / teams is not a new phenomenon. It is a reality. However, do we really work well in Testing on such distributed teams? Learn some practices that help bridge the Distributed Testing gap!
Most frequently we are using words “testing” and “tester” when talk about product quality. But does testing or tester role affect quality? The eternal struggle between QC and QA… Yes, I’m almost sure you understand this, but why nothing is changed in most of teams? Because we need mind shift in our heads and more global changes in QA processes. Who QA engineers are and what are their responsibilities, activities, duties in modern development world? What options do they have to affect product quality and improve it if developers are responsible for product development? In this talk I will try to find detailed practical answers to all these questions. Let’s change development world together!

In today's competitive world, where failure can be disastrous and celerity to market is a critical business advantage. Software testing is becoming more and more essential. Technical skills exceed writing code, it’s not limited to automation but other skills are required. So that the scope and width of tester's role is demanding much more expertise and depth of knowledge. The main objective of this talk is to introduce what modern testing is, the transition and the evolution of software tester role in his team. I will mention in this talk my personal experience how moving from Scrum to Extreme programming by pairing with developers and spreading the care about quality for the whole team helps me move towards the modern tester.
Gamification in outsourcing company: experience report.Mikalai Alimenkou
Most of us used to hear word gamification only for end user engagement into product usage. Some of us know about usage of similar approaches in product development teams to improve and tune development process. But almost nobody believes that gamification is possible in the context of outsourcing companies and teams. This talk is experience report of gamification usage on very large project with detailed reusable framework demonstration. If you want to bring some fun and really engage your team, then this talk is for you.

Agile Testing Alliance - CP-MAT program.(Certified Professional Master Agile Testing) is surest way to learn practical agile testing and is the 1st stepping stone for anyone trying to get into agile or DevOps Testing space
Working in many companies as consultant, delivery manager or tech lead I have always seen the same mistakes made in test automation process. I could count successful cases on fingers of one hand. Sometimes people don’t understand the true value of test automation, sometimes just could not organize this process spending lots of money and time without any significant result. I want to share 5 top mistakes aggregated from whole my practice and solutions I recommend for them.
Building the rights Right. Use the concept of continuous validation (hypothesis driven development) to prevent that your automated software development pipeline becomes a vehicle to deliver crap fast and helps you focus on the goals that software should help you achieve
This presentation by Anna Marie Clifton, Product Manager at Yammer, covers the important topics of when to use A/B testing, how to implement it and most importantly, how to measure the results.
The content is directed for software engineers who want to transition to product management, MBA's with finance/consulting background who wish to work high-tech companies as product managers and Project Managers, Marketers, and Designers who are seeking opportunities in product management.
Testers, do you find yourself still siloed even after breaking down the “walls” between development and testing? Are you in a hole of never-ending test creation and maintenance, removing you from focusing on user experience? Does ad-hoc exploratory testing still happen because your tests aren’t stable enough to test the app before it gets to production?
When your team starts to adopt agile and DevOps development practices, how do you scale testing to keep up with higher release frequencies? Test automation is a big part of the solution. But beware that you’re doing it the wrong way.
In this talk I will explain how to reverse the negative impacts brought about from common – but not necessarily “good” – practices around automation tooling and QA hiring practices. I will talk about what changes you need to make to win back more time to develop and implement your test strategy. I will elevate your testing strategy from “surviving” to “thriving” in DevOps.

Basically this slid will help to Learn software quality testing on scratch level.
Software testing is the quality measures conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service. Test techniques include, but are not limited to, the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs. It is an important part of the entire Software Development ensuring that the functionalities of the system are tested to the finest and assures the quality, correctness and completeness of the product. Software testing, depending on the testing method employed, can be implemented at any time in the development process.
Stages of testing:
o Test planning
o Test Analysis
o Test verification & Construction
o Test execution
o Defect tracking and management

I believe that our existing models of testing are not fit for purpose – they are inconsistent, controversial, partial, proprietary and stuck in the past. They are not going to support us in the rapidly emerging technologies and approaches. The certification schemes that should represent the interests and integrity of our profession don’t, and we are left with schemes that are popular, but have low value, lower esteem and attract harsh criticism. My goal in proposing the New Model is to stimulate new thinking in this area.

Karishma Kolli – Myth Busters on Test AutomationPractiTest
Slides from Karishma Kolli's Fall OnlineTestConf session – Myth Busters on Test Automation
There is a misconception in software world about automation testing that it is a “Magic wand that takes care of all your testing needs” but in reality it is NOT.
Test automation is at times mistaken to be the be-all and end-all testing solution. Why can’t it take care of all our needs? How and when should I choose automation? What’s my developer’s role in test automation? How much of ROI will I have with test automation? How can I get the best of both worlds(Manual and automation)?
These questions and more were addressed in this OnlineTestConf session.

The New Normal for Development and Testing in Agile and DevOpsPractiTest
Slides from Michael Sowers's 2017 Fall OnlineTestConf session – The New Normal for Development and Testing in Agile and DevOps.
Software development and testing are getting more challenging because of the tremendous complexity we face At the same time, agile, DevOps and other adaptive approaches allow us to innovate faster and deliver improvements, almost continuously.
For development and testing, this means more change, less certainty, even shorter development and testing windows, a constant flow of new functionality to deploy, and the lingering risk of major or catastrophic failures.
This presentation will highlight some of the characteristics of the New Normal in Development & Testing such as data analytics, TestDev thinking, continuous everything, pervasive automation and near real-time metrics and others. The audience will leave with renewed perspectives and ideas on how to better equip themselves to embrace this new normal.

We all know that the tester’s role on the agile projects is not the same as the one on a traditional waterfall’s. But what values do testers now add to the agile teams? What are the most commonly encountered challenges that the testers nowadays face? Do they need to know how to write a code? Is automated testing really the key solution to all these issues? We’ll try to answer these and (of course) some of your questions at this session and explore some real case examples from our international projects and our testing community.
We would like to help testers to find the needed power to understand their real values and principles that support the agile projects and let them become aware that they are also an important part of a whole-team approach, together with the developers and the business representatives.
Presentation Takeaways:
1. How to overcome some of the challenges that testers face working in agile teams.
2. What values testers need to embrace and add to agile teams.
3. How to bridge over barriers between traditional and agile testing

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
Code reviews are vital for ensuring good code quality. They serve as one of our last lines of defense against bugs and subpar code reaching production.
Yet, they often turn into annoying tasks riddled with frustration, hostility, unclear feedback and lack of standards. How can we improve this crucial process?
In this session we will cover:
- The Art of Effective Code Reviews
- Streamlining the Review Process
- Elevating Reviews with Automated Tools
By the end of this presentation, you'll have the knowledge on how to organize and improve your code review proces

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

Teach Developers to plan their testing
Don’t test your own code
Work with the testing team
to find relevant cases
Think about positive and
negative scenarios up front – WRITE THEM DOWN!
Work with Checklists and Heuristics
21. Step 4:
What to do while testing
At the beginning use pair-testing
Have a notebook handy, write down ideas & questions
Work with extreme & unconventional data
Think about mediocre users
Look at the complete application and not only at the
scenario at hand – find the “along the way” bugs
22. Step 5:
Developer testing should have value
-Devs should have a say in what they
test and how they do it!
- Have developers report bugs and
follow up on them
- Count them as part of the testing resources for
reporting and metrics
- Don’t give developers only the low priority testing tasks
24. When should we
involve devs in testing?
When there is value to be gained from their work
When you can take time to work with them
When there is a need to get a whole team effort
When you have something to gain from their
experience and knowledge
When your organization is ready to do this
