Detroit has existed ever since the European settlement in
America. During the time period from the mid 1990s to the mid
2000s, Detroit’s economy declined considerably, and crime
rates catapulted. A look at Detroit's crime curve graph shows
the most-affected being victims of murder, rape and physical
abuse.
Murder rates are also very high in the city with a statistic of
350 murders per 100,000 people in 2004 only which is about
five times the U.S average. All these crimes take part under the
watch of security authorities and is mainly blamed on the big
the drug cartels who pay-off the corrupt security bosses to allow
their businesses to thrive.
Moreover, the security department lacks adequate officers to
serve the enormous population in Detroit. About three officers
are stationed to help 1000 people leading to few patrols, and an
enormous load of unsolved crimes leaving the victims in
sadness and contemplating revenge or experimenting with the
crime world of Detroit that finds them in legal troubles.
The period also saw the evolution of fashion and technology. In
2004, the city was the second biggest fashion scene after Paris.
Detroit is a town known for high fashion, hair shows, gator
shoes, minks and it’s signature accessory, Cartier framed
glasses. Your sense of styles showed character, personality and
status amongst the food chain. That’s how this city judges you.
Through materialistic things.
In Detroit 2004, cell phones were the replacement of beepers
and side kick’s. Text messaging were the new form of
communication. Nextel’s were the biggest thing in the city.
Nextel’s showed status and it was the news trend of urban
wealth. It along you to reach people at an instant with the
“chirp” feature. It also started the biggest trend of 2004,
ringtones.
Raven Dior is Makenzie’s best-friend. They met while in foster
girl all girls home, forced to be roommates, they grow closer
than sisters and whoever said blood was thicker than water
obviously have never experienced love. Raven shares a similar
story as Makenzie. She was raped by her moms boyfriend when
she was 13yrs old. What landed her in the system was her
mother’s constant neglect. The school system called child
protective service and they took her and her siblings away and
separated them all. Now Raven is almost 18 and she is looking
to take over the world with her friend Makenzie.
How does the time period influence your character’s physical
appearance?
The time period is 2004 in the city of Detroit. The biggest
fashion scene aside from Paris. Raven is a healthy, plus side
girl, confident girl and she doesn’t let her weight control her
wardrobe. She likes to be in tune to what is “in”. Her
appearance is important because it confirms status and
personality. She uses her clothes and hair to allude sexiness.
Detroit is also a “show me state”. Your appearance is exactly
who you are. Raven came from a damaging home on the eastside
of town and she doesn’t want a reminder of that. She doesn’t
want people to look at her and see struggle so she uses fashion
to cover her flaws.
What questions do you have regarding the time period of your
story? What do you need to research?
What I need to research is the city itself. I am very familiar
with the area, but as I’m researching I’m finding out more
things about the actually city that I wasn’t aware of, like the
population. I need to research the statistics on female rape
victims. I would like to actually inquire about mental and
physical abuse in foster care. Not just from foster parents, but
also the reports on social workers and counselor and the people
who are suppose to protect these children. I want to research the
procedure one must take to report abuse in the system and how
it is handled or is it merely ignored until an investigation is
completed. I would like to research drug cartel as well. I’m
interesting in knowing how this type of movement can go on for
so long under the nose of law enforcement before an arrest is
made. Last, but not least I would like to research how a murder
is handled. When the crime go unsolved in the first 48 hours
approximately how long after a death do we closed their file.
Makenzie Desouza is a 17 year old ward of the state.
Anticipating her 18th birthday so she can escape the foster
abuse that she has endure since she witness the murder of her
wealthy drug dealing father known to the streets as H2 and her
sweet innocent mother Hailey. At the age of 6 she became
property of the system and has been to several different foster
homes. She has been physically and sexually abused throughout
her stay and has since developed a cold heart and a massive
hatred for men.
What are the defining characteristics of your character’s
physical appearance?
Makenzie grew up in the wealthy park of Grosse Pointe Park,
MI. With H2 having one of Columbus biggest connect, he was
the big distribution Detroit has ever seen. Makenzie was shelter
from that world until the day the Columbus came in the middle
of the night ambushing their secure home, beheading her father
and raping and slicing her mothers throat, as she watched from
the built in safe room cameras. Makenzie is 130lbs, dark smooth
chocolate complexion, full lips, puppy dog eyes and think eye
lashes that makes her eyes appear to be slanted. As she is
developing into a woman she has full size C cup breast, a slim
toned waist and her mother’s shapely hips and thighs. Now that
she is almost legally a woman, Makenzie is beginning to notice
how powerful her appearance is and she plans to use it for
revenge.
What apparel and ornamentation (make up, tattoos, jewelry, hair
style, etc.) does the character have?
Makenzie tries to be as fashionable as her allowance allows her
to be. Since beginning high school she developed a thing for
make up. She would steal it from her local CVS and Walgreens
and apply it until she got it right. Making herself even more
appealing and mature-looking. She likes her hair touching her
back. She even adds extensions to achieve the look she feels
make her look sexier. Makenzie has a complexion disorder. She
notice that girls with lighter skins gets more attention and
darker girls are not as attractive. She uses her make up to
conceal her complexion. Makenzie’s royalties were taken away
from her when her parents were murdered, but when the social
worker came she was wearing the diamond earrings, necklace
and ring her father has custom made for her 6th birthday. She
never took it off. When the ring had gotten to small she attached
it to her necklace and she cherish them. It’s the only thing she
has from her past and she has been protecting it for 11 years.

Final Project Outline
Developing New Worlds
Minimum Word Count is 2000 words (excluding cover page and
references).
Project is 15% of overall grade
Project should resemble a book. Begin each section on a new
page.
1) Cover sheet –
Include story title (if you have one), student name, class,
school, date, and instructor name
2) Story Premise – What are the very basics we need to know
about this story? Sell it! Make me interested in your story.
50-100 words MAX
Note: This is often the most difficult element of the final
project. If you are not sure how to write a premise, here is a
simple formula you can use. It will not work with all story
concepts, but it is general enough to work for most.
• When… some event provokes the protagonist to act (not react)
• Character Acts … the protagonist joins with one or more
people acting on some desire with purposeful intention
• Until… the protagonist’s actions are met by some external
force that generates disorder and/or chaos – the adventure
• Leading to … the dénouement – an evolutionary change for
the protagonist
3) Historical Background Information or Timeline –
What has happened prior or what is important to know going
into the story?
250 Words minimum
4) Main Character(s)
Provide a character biography and description for the
protagonist. This would be a good time to review that Character
Planning Sheet! Include image if one is available/applicable –
see the notes at the bottom of the outline. An image increases
engagement, interest, and encourages visualization of your story
elements.
350 words minimum
5) Supporting Characters
Biographies and descriptions for supporting characters. Very
flexible, completely dependant on the number of important
supporting characters in your story. 3 supporting character
minimum. Include images if possible.
100 words minimum for each character.
6) Locations –
Provide a description of three major locations in your world.
Include images if possible.
100 words minimum each location.
7) Additional World Information:
Additional information that is important for understanding your
world setting. As each project is highly individual, the
categories of information you choose to provide will be very
specific to your project. This would be a good time to review
that World Building Planning Sheet!
Some categories could include religion, language, races, social
structures, technology, magic, or other.
250 words minimum.
8) Story Synopsis –
A brief synopsis of your story. It should provide a description
of the complete storyline. Don’t worry about spoilers.
250 words (try not to go over).
9) Story Excerpt –
Give the reader a taste of your story. Some possible strategies: a
simple scene, short chapter, script, or excerpt. Take us into your
world so we can see how all the pieces fit. 250 words minimum.
10) References –
Collect all of the references from the research assignments.
Create a list of those that will be used for your work, and place
them on a references page. Also cite any new material and any
images used (including images you create).
Follow APA citation for ALL REFERENCES. If you are unsure
of APA formatting:
See Owl at Purdue for formatting help:

Detroit has existed ever since the European settlement in America..docx

  • 1. Detroit has existed ever since the European settlement in America. During the time period from the mid 1990s to the mid 2000s, Detroit’s economy declined considerably, and crime rates catapulted. A look at Detroit's crime curve graph shows the most-affected being victims of murder, rape and physical abuse. Murder rates are also very high in the city with a statistic of 350 murders per 100,000 people in 2004 only which is about five times the U.S average. All these crimes take part under the watch of security authorities and is mainly blamed on the big the drug cartels who pay-off the corrupt security bosses to allow their businesses to thrive. Moreover, the security department lacks adequate officers to serve the enormous population in Detroit. About three officers are stationed to help 1000 people leading to few patrols, and an enormous load of unsolved crimes leaving the victims in sadness and contemplating revenge or experimenting with the crime world of Detroit that finds them in legal troubles. The period also saw the evolution of fashion and technology. In 2004, the city was the second biggest fashion scene after Paris. Detroit is a town known for high fashion, hair shows, gator shoes, minks and it’s signature accessory, Cartier framed glasses. Your sense of styles showed character, personality and status amongst the food chain. That’s how this city judges you. Through materialistic things. In Detroit 2004, cell phones were the replacement of beepers and side kick’s. Text messaging were the new form of communication. Nextel’s were the biggest thing in the city. Nextel’s showed status and it was the news trend of urban wealth. It along you to reach people at an instant with the “chirp” feature. It also started the biggest trend of 2004, ringtones.
  • 2. Raven Dior is Makenzie’s best-friend. They met while in foster girl all girls home, forced to be roommates, they grow closer than sisters and whoever said blood was thicker than water obviously have never experienced love. Raven shares a similar story as Makenzie. She was raped by her moms boyfriend when she was 13yrs old. What landed her in the system was her mother’s constant neglect. The school system called child protective service and they took her and her siblings away and separated them all. Now Raven is almost 18 and she is looking to take over the world with her friend Makenzie. How does the time period influence your character’s physical appearance? The time period is 2004 in the city of Detroit. The biggest fashion scene aside from Paris. Raven is a healthy, plus side girl, confident girl and she doesn’t let her weight control her wardrobe. She likes to be in tune to what is “in”. Her appearance is important because it confirms status and personality. She uses her clothes and hair to allude sexiness. Detroit is also a “show me state”. Your appearance is exactly who you are. Raven came from a damaging home on the eastside of town and she doesn’t want a reminder of that. She doesn’t want people to look at her and see struggle so she uses fashion to cover her flaws. What questions do you have regarding the time period of your story? What do you need to research? What I need to research is the city itself. I am very familiar with the area, but as I’m researching I’m finding out more things about the actually city that I wasn’t aware of, like the population. I need to research the statistics on female rape victims. I would like to actually inquire about mental and
  • 3. physical abuse in foster care. Not just from foster parents, but also the reports on social workers and counselor and the people who are suppose to protect these children. I want to research the procedure one must take to report abuse in the system and how it is handled or is it merely ignored until an investigation is completed. I would like to research drug cartel as well. I’m interesting in knowing how this type of movement can go on for so long under the nose of law enforcement before an arrest is made. Last, but not least I would like to research how a murder is handled. When the crime go unsolved in the first 48 hours approximately how long after a death do we closed their file. Makenzie Desouza is a 17 year old ward of the state. Anticipating her 18th birthday so she can escape the foster abuse that she has endure since she witness the murder of her wealthy drug dealing father known to the streets as H2 and her sweet innocent mother Hailey. At the age of 6 she became property of the system and has been to several different foster homes. She has been physically and sexually abused throughout her stay and has since developed a cold heart and a massive hatred for men. What are the defining characteristics of your character’s physical appearance? Makenzie grew up in the wealthy park of Grosse Pointe Park, MI. With H2 having one of Columbus biggest connect, he was the big distribution Detroit has ever seen. Makenzie was shelter from that world until the day the Columbus came in the middle of the night ambushing their secure home, beheading her father and raping and slicing her mothers throat, as she watched from the built in safe room cameras. Makenzie is 130lbs, dark smooth chocolate complexion, full lips, puppy dog eyes and think eye
  • 4. lashes that makes her eyes appear to be slanted. As she is developing into a woman she has full size C cup breast, a slim toned waist and her mother’s shapely hips and thighs. Now that she is almost legally a woman, Makenzie is beginning to notice how powerful her appearance is and she plans to use it for revenge. What apparel and ornamentation (make up, tattoos, jewelry, hair style, etc.) does the character have? Makenzie tries to be as fashionable as her allowance allows her to be. Since beginning high school she developed a thing for make up. She would steal it from her local CVS and Walgreens and apply it until she got it right. Making herself even more appealing and mature-looking. She likes her hair touching her back. She even adds extensions to achieve the look she feels make her look sexier. Makenzie has a complexion disorder. She notice that girls with lighter skins gets more attention and darker girls are not as attractive. She uses her make up to conceal her complexion. Makenzie’s royalties were taken away from her when her parents were murdered, but when the social worker came she was wearing the diamond earrings, necklace and ring her father has custom made for her 6th birthday. She never took it off. When the ring had gotten to small she attached it to her necklace and she cherish them. It’s the only thing she has from her past and she has been protecting it for 11 years.
