The document discusses principles for designing rich interactions on Web 2.0 platforms. It outlines three key principles: 1) prefer direct, lightweight, in-page interactions, 2) provide invitations beforehand, transitions during and feedback after interactions, and 3) think in objects and tie information to interactivity. Various interaction patterns are provided as examples for each principle, such as inline editing, drag and drop, and multi-variate views.

Jen Consalvo, Making it Personal: Designing 'My' Webwebcontent2007
The document discusses the importance of personalized experiences on the web. It defines personalization as customizing webpages based on a user's explicit preferences and past behaviors to deliver the most relevant content. This increases user engagement by allowing them to customize their homepage and have all the information and tools they need in one place. Research shows that users who customize their online experiences visit sites more frequently and are more engaged than those who do not customize. Younger users in particular are more likely to customize and increase their usage as a result. The goal of personalization is to solve the problem of having too many websites to manage by creating a personalized dashboard for each user.
Social media can help real estate brokers build relationships, promote their business, and generate leads. The document recommends setting up profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest to connect with clients, share industry news, and position oneself as an expert. It provides tips on what information to include on profiles and business pages and encourages regularly posting updates on listings, events, and market trends. The goal is to use social media as an additional communication channel to effectively promote one's real estate business online.
This document discusses using social media for real estate agents. It provides information on popular social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Foursquare. It explains how real estate agents can use these sites to build relationships, share news and events, create engaging content, and promote listings. The document also includes statistics on user numbers for each site and tips for getting started with social media and choosing which sites to use.
The document discusses graphical models for analyzing large amounts of data from the internet. It outlines several applications of graphical models including clustering documents, detecting topics in text, word segmentation, modeling user interests over time, and detecting ideology from text. The document also discusses challenges like scale of data, need for advanced modeling beyond clustering/topics, and scalable inference algorithms. Basic statistical tools for graphical models like probability, independence, Bayes' rule, and exponential families are also covered.

Mary Magdalene was the first witness of the Resurrection according to the Gospel of John. She arrived at Jesus' tomb alone on Easter morning and found it empty. Upon seeing the risen Jesus, now in the form of a gardener, she recognized him and called him by name. As the first person to see the risen Christ, Mary Magdalene is given a unique role in the Gospel accounts as the primary witness of the Resurrection.
This document discusses designing user interfaces to create "interesting moments" during interactions. It begins by examining the many events and actors involved even in simple interactions like dragging and dropping. It then analyzes 96 potential "interesting moments" that could occur. The document discusses principles for designing these moments, such as using animation carefully and maintaining symmetrical interactions. It provides examples of good and bad interface patterns related to drag and drop, overlays, navigation bars, and other interactions. The overall goal is to thoughtfully design moments that capture micro interactions and possibilities to create a pleasing user experience.
The document discusses emerging web interaction patterns and trends. It presents several patterns such as live search, auto-complete, drag and drop, inline editing, hover invitations, endless scrolling, and in-context expanding. It also discusses trends like rich content, direct interactions, lightweight interfaces without borders, and cinematic transitions between pages. Finally, it introduces Yahoo's design pattern library which provides representations of patterns in JSON for others to incorporate into custom pattern libraries.
The document discusses Yahoo's design pattern library. It introduces patterns for interactions, presentations, and data. It then categorizes patterns into groups like immediacy, directness, invitational, without boundaries, light footprint, cinematic, and rich content. Examples of patterns like live suggest, drag and drop, inline editing and hover invitation are provided. The document also describes Yahoo's pattern service that responds with JSON representations of patterns to allow others to create custom pattern libraries.

Designing Web Interfaces Book - O'Reilly WebcastBill Scott
This is an update to the previous Designing Web Interfaces talk. This presentation was given on Feb. 3, 2009 over a live webcast via an O'Reilly Author Webcast special.
This presentation goes hand in hand with our book (Bill Scott & Theresa Neil) called Designing Web Interfaces: Principles and Patterns for Rich Interaction.
This presentation is much better suited for Slideshare than previous presentations as I took a lot of time to turn the movie screencasts into individual keyframes. Designing Ajax Principles And Patterns For Designing Rich Internet Appl...Manikanda kumar
This document discusses principles for designing rich internet applications using Ajax. It begins by introducing the author and background on Ajax design at Yahoo. Patterns for Ajax interactions like drag and drop, editing, and live searching are presented. The anatomy of a pattern with trigger, operation, and update steps is described. Principles for Ajax design like keeping interactions direct, providing live feedback, and showing transitions are covered.
The document discusses challenges in designing, developing, and deploying Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). It outlines the methodology used, which included studying RIAs through online resources and hands-on experience with tools. Issues addressed include choosing technologies, cross-browser compatibility, and handling deployment. Potential solutions explored using Adobe Flex, AJAX, Microsoft Silverlight, and evaluating each for the specific application requirements. The conclusion recommends RIAs for applications like catalogs and making recommendations for designing RIAs.
This document discusses various design anti-patterns to avoid, including interactions that require unnecessary steps or mouse movements. It provides examples of the "meandering way" anti-pattern, where normal page flow takes a winding path, and the "pogo stick navigation" anti-pattern, which requires hopping between different levels to complete a task. It also covers the "tiny targets" anti-pattern, where key interaction points are too small and difficult to select accurately. The document advises following consistent spatial relationships in interactions and keeping actions in-context to avoid these anti-patterns.

Running Great Design Reviews With Clients & PartnersCraig Peters
No matter how great your designs are, the way you communicate with your clients/business partners can make or break your engagement, especially as design challenges and organizations become more complex.
But what actually makes some meetings go well, and others not? We’ve heard “Be storytellers,” “Provide the right context,” and “Set expectations,” but what does that look like in practice?
I’ll provide real-life examples of how we’ve done this in our presentations for client engagements. We’ll include examples of our fundamental concepts we live by. No surprises. Over-communicate. Tell them how to be and what to do in the meeting. Design every slide of a presentation, not just the “designs.” Tell a story. Assume your clients have no idea what your meeting is all about (put yourself in their shoes).
It always goes better when you’re well prepared; we’ll help you get there.
This document discusses designing user interfaces for interesting moments of interaction. It analyzes examples of in-page editing, drag and drop interactions, contextual tools that appear on hover or click, and overlays. Key principles discussed include making interactions symmetrical for activation and deactivation, reducing physical and mental effort, requiring a light footprint, and maintaining user flow within the page. Anti-patterns like hover overlays that obscure content and "idiot boxes" that separate users from context are also examined. The document aims to capture minute interplays in user interfaces to improve discoverability and usability of features.
