The critiques provide concise yet insightful feedback on effective and ineffective uses of design principles for each example.
8. Theme
Bad
This design is confusing because it says
Dental, but there is a waiter dressed very
Formally with a tooth on the tray. It doesn’t
Tell you anything about the company and
Would not make me want to call them for my
Dentistry needs.
9. Theme
Bad
There is so
Much wrong
With this design.
The colors are horrible
And it isn’t clear what
You are supposed to
Get from looking at the
Poster.
10. Picture Words
Good
I love how the
Words mimic what
They represent.
For example, the
Mustard is yellow.
13. Picture Words
Bad
I like the idea
Of using a fabric
Floral design for
The word floral, but
It is hard to read.
Could have been better
With a darker outline.
14. Audience
Good
This is a great tag line for health conscious people.
There has been so much talk lately about GMO’s
And there is a movement to not eat foods that have been
Modified.
15. Audience
Good
This is a great ad to target
People who want to protect
The environment by using clean
Energy options.
16. Audience
Bad
This is a terrible logo
Because a watermelon
And IT doesn’t go together at all.
17. Audience
Bad
This flyer is very
Confusing. The red
Heart is in contrast
To the evil kitty face
And the masked man
With a glove seems a
Bit extreme.
18. Visual Context
Good
This is a great design. I love the
Hand reaching down and the four
Little hands reaching up.
19. Visual Context
Good
I love this design.
The face to the left is
Pleasant and the one
To the right is angry.
This makes me want to
Pick up this book to learn
More.
20. Visual Context
Bad
This is too busy and
Isn’t clear what I am supposed
To get from it. The cat face is
Pleasant but the circles make
it too busy and cluttered.
22. Embellishment
Good
This is great
Because it is easy
To read and is very clear.
It would also be good for
Someone who wasn’t familiar
With the different types of
Coffees.
23. Embellishment
Good
I like the clouds and sky behind the quote. It just adds to the overall
Feel of the design.
The fancy instruments makes it look and feel fancier than normal.
41. Contrast
Bad
There isn’t much contrast
Between the background
And the font. I think the
Design has to potential to
Be amazing with a little work.
42. Emphasis
Good
The emphasis is on the shapes in the ad. It is good
Because they want you to be able to look at it and
Be able to dream up what you want.
43. Emphasis
Good
There is a good balance
Between the top and bottom.
There is a lot going on in this
Design.
44. Emphasis
Bad
The emphasis is on the fist
coming out from the top of a
Shirt. It is very odd and
doesn’t have a clear message.
45. Emphasis
Bad
This is a logo gone very wrong.
Even though it is supposed to be
A dentist office, it turned out to be a
Suggestive and somewhat sexual logo.
47. Color
Good
The use of color in this design
Is fantastic. The brown in the
Middle is very coffee like. The
White is cup like and looks good
With the background.
48. Color
Bad
This is hard to look at and hurts my eyes. Using both colors
That are bright isn’t good practice. If the font was white instead
Of blue, it would be much easier to read.
49. Color
Bad
There is so much wrong with this design, but the colors do
Nothing to add to the overall design. It isn’t good colors for
A sports bar and it lacks professionalism.
50. Style
Good
This is a great example
Of style. It is well put
Together and flows
nicely. The touch of
Color is subtle and
really helps with the
Overall design.
51. Style
Good
These cups are a good
Example of style. They
Are aligned and easy to
Understand. There is
Color but not too much.
52. Style
Bad
This is an example of style gone wrong. The use of the
An illustration for a letter is a failure.
53. Style
Bad
This is just horrible style.
The colors are awful and
The green guy is ridiculous.
54. Type
Good
This is a good example of type. The fonts are easy to
Read and are really clear. The blue and white really
Stand out on the dark grey.
55. Type
Good
I love this ad for Starbucks
The words mimic the cup
With words from the menu
It is very creative
There needs to be more contrast between the words and background. It is too hard to read the words in the pink color but would have been much better in black.
I love this design. The Space Needle is visible in each picture which is a part of Seattle and easily recognizable.
This page is way too busy and hard to navigate. Nothing is clear and it is all hard to read. I actually can’t even tell what type of page this is or what is it’s main focus would be.
Everything is better with embellishment is the motto here. I don’t think it works in the instance.
All these logos have gone terribly wrong. Each one not only missed the mark, but has some sort of sexual overtone. The people who created these should be fired.
This website is aligned great. The text is all perfectly lined up and flows nicely.
The repetition of the green grass on the top and bottom are nice. Then the green font in the middle ties it all together.
This is a great use of color. It enhances the design and is easy to navigate.
