6. PROJECTS AND CONTRIBUTION
Design of simple hydraulic lifting machine
Introduction
 Simple hydraulic lifting machine is one type of power industrial
truck.
 The ultimate purpose of this machine is the same to safely allow
one person to lift and move large heavy loads with little effort.
 The design of this lifting machine should be creative, simple, user
friendly and use the minimum cost especially the material cost.
11
Problem of Statement
According to the market lifting machine basically the lifting machines
nowadays are provided using the hydraulic system and other complex
system. What try to do these tasks is tried to develop lift machine that
changes this very complex part and the carrying capacity of the
hydraulic machine to reduce:
 The weight of the machine this means to reduce the complex part
 The costs of forklift are very high to compare to this simple
hydraulic lifting machine so to reduce by half.
 The emplacement of fork lift not portable because difficult to move
and not adjustable.
 Many product /lift machines/ designing in a big range of load.
 The maintenance of forklift is cost and takes time.
 The systems of other forklift are complex and difficult to
maintenance.
12
Objective
1 General Objective
 The importance of this project to reduce the work of forklift by
simple hydraulic lifting machine
2 Specific Objective
 To design and develop lifting machine by using hydraulic.
 To lift a material /load/ from one place to other place.
 For the purpose of grinding, welding, and panting.
 To lift the load not more than 120kg.
 To apply the knowledge and skill of manufacturing process.
 To modify the lift machine structure.
Scope and Limitations
13
The Maine limitations of this project are:-
I. This machine doesn’t work above maximum height
of 10m.
II. It doesn’t have its own motor for moment
III. It doesn’t perform its activity during night time.
Since it hasn’t electrical system.
IV. The maximum carrying capacity of this machine is
120kg but above this the machine will be damaged.
Design Specification
Maximum load=120kg
Maximum height=10m
Detailed Design and Description of the Project
(Methodology)
14
There are two methodology of in this project.
These are:-
A. Detail design and analysis of the component and
B. Proper selection of the wanted component
 Detail design and analysis of the component
Material selection based on:-
 Mechanical properties
 machinability
 Availability in standard sizes plates
 Cost
Design analysis based on:-
Bending stress
shear stress
deflection
14
Proper selection of the wanted component
Hydraulic motor selection based on:-
 Horse power - Fluid flow rate
 Displacement - Pressure
 Rpm (revolution per minute )
 Hydraulic pump selection based on:-
 System pressure requirement - Fluid compatibility
 Delivery volume requirement - Bulk and weight
 Drive speed - Noise and vibration
 Cost efficiency (including pump efficiency)
Hydraulic hose selection based on:-
 hose inside diameter
Hydraulic fluid selection based on:-
 Have superior oxygen stability - Lower pour point
 High viscosity index - Good lubricant
 Low viscosity - Moderate cost
15
Operation of Our Machine
 Our simple hydraulic lifting machine is a single acting cylinder hydraulic
machine.
 Exert a force in only extending direction
 Do not retract hydraulically.
 Retraction is accomplished by using gravity.
Controlling
A two-piston, three ways, manually operated gravity directional control valve
(DCV) used to control the operation of our machine. In the gravity mode, full
pump flow goes the tank via the pressure relief valve, the gravity which created
by the load to be lift pull to the ground or in down ward direction the piston as
oil from the blank end “A” drain back to the rank (tank). When the valve is
manually actuated the pump flow goes to the cylinder blank end area (A) via
DCV perpendicular directions. This extends the cylinder. At full extension,
pump flow goes to the relief valve. Deactivation of the DCV allows the
cylinder to retract as the DCV shift into gravitational mode.
16
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
19
CONCLUSIONS FOR DESIGN
The aim of our project is to design the simple hydraulic lifting machine
which is capable of lifting load up to 120kg at the maximum height of
10m. we accurately achieved our first goal of design to work the analysis
of all components with selection of their necessary parts like motor,
pump, hose etc and the proper selection of material for each component
of the machine. We feel that our design and fabrication will have greater
successes both in terms of strength and stiffness. These hydraulic lifting
machine uses oil to perform their own activities.
17
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
20
RECOMMENDATION
During the internship months we had seen some short comings in the
project which were the main cause for manufacturing delays and wastage
of resources. We have told these problems for the TANA BELES sugar
project officials who are responsible for to prevent the resource of the
company.
We recommend for the project most of the conventional machines do not
use coolant and do not seat the materials at a proper place these cause
materials cannot use a long period of time.
We also recommend our project;
Our machine does not have its own motor system so any person can
modify these by adding motor system.
Our machine also does not work in a night time so other person can
use electrical system and to use these machines for 24 hours.
Our machine maximum carrying capacity is 120kg but other person
can modify different part to increase carrying capacity

  • 12. 10 6. PROJECTS AND CONTRIBUTION Design of simple hydraulic lifting machine Introduction  Simple hydraulic lifting machine is one type of power industrial truck.  The ultimate purpose of this machine is the same to safely allow one person to lift and move large heavy loads with little effort.  The design of this lifting machine should be creative, simple, user friendly and use the minimum cost especially the material cost.
  • 13. 11 Problem of Statement According to the market lifting machine basically the lifting machines nowadays are provided using the hydraulic system and other complex system. What try to do these tasks is tried to develop lift machine that changes this very complex part and the carrying capacity of the hydraulic machine to reduce:  The weight of the machine this means to reduce the complex part  The costs of forklift are very high to compare to this simple hydraulic lifting machine so to reduce by half.  The emplacement of fork lift not portable because difficult to move and not adjustable.  Many product /lift machines/ designing in a big range of load.  The maintenance of forklift is cost and takes time.  The systems of other forklift are complex and difficult to maintenance.
  • 14. 12 Objective 1 General Objective  The importance of this project to reduce the work of forklift by simple hydraulic lifting machine 2 Specific Objective  To design and develop lifting machine by using hydraulic.  To lift a material /load/ from one place to other place.  For the purpose of grinding, welding, and panting.  To lift the load not more than 120kg.  To apply the knowledge and skill of manufacturing process.  To modify the lift machine structure.
  • 15. Scope and Limitations 13 The Maine limitations of this project are:- I. This machine doesn’t work above maximum height of 10m. II. It doesn’t have its own motor for moment III. It doesn’t perform its activity during night time. Since it hasn’t electrical system. IV. The maximum carrying capacity of this machine is 120kg but above this the machine will be damaged. Design Specification Maximum load=120kg Maximum height=10m
  • 16. Detailed Design and Description of the Project (Methodology) 14 There are two methodology of in this project. These are:- A. Detail design and analysis of the component and B. Proper selection of the wanted component  Detail design and analysis of the component Material selection based on:-  Mechanical properties  machinability  Availability in standard sizes plates  Cost Design analysis based on:- Bending stress shear stress deflection 14
  • 17. Proper selection of the wanted component Hydraulic motor selection based on:-  Horse power - Fluid flow rate  Displacement - Pressure  Rpm (revolution per minute )  Hydraulic pump selection based on:-  System pressure requirement - Fluid compatibility  Delivery volume requirement - Bulk and weight  Drive speed - Noise and vibration  Cost efficiency (including pump efficiency) Hydraulic hose selection based on:-  hose inside diameter Hydraulic fluid selection based on:-  Have superior oxygen stability - Lower pour point  High viscosity index - Good lubricant  Low viscosity - Moderate cost 15
  • 18. Operation of Our Machine  Our simple hydraulic lifting machine is a single acting cylinder hydraulic machine.  Exert a force in only extending direction  Do not retract hydraulically.  Retraction is accomplished by using gravity. Controlling A two-piston, three ways, manually operated gravity directional control valve (DCV) used to control the operation of our machine. In the gravity mode, full pump flow goes the tank via the pressure relief valve, the gravity which created by the load to be lift pull to the ground or in down ward direction the piston as oil from the blank end “A” drain back to the rank (tank). When the valve is manually actuated the pump flow goes to the cylinder blank end area (A) via DCV perpendicular directions. This extends the cylinder. At full extension, pump flow goes to the relief valve. Deactivation of the DCV allows the cylinder to retract as the DCV shift into gravitational mode. 16
  • 19. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION 19 CONCLUSIONS FOR DESIGN The aim of our project is to design the simple hydraulic lifting machine which is capable of lifting load up to 120kg at the maximum height of 10m. we accurately achieved our first goal of design to work the analysis of all components with selection of their necessary parts like motor, pump, hose etc and the proper selection of material for each component of the machine. We feel that our design and fabrication will have greater successes both in terms of strength and stiffness. These hydraulic lifting machine uses oil to perform their own activities. 17
  • 20. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION 20 RECOMMENDATION During the internship months we had seen some short comings in the project which were the main cause for manufacturing delays and wastage of resources. We have told these problems for the TANA BELES sugar project officials who are responsible for to prevent the resource of the company. We recommend for the project most of the conventional machines do not use coolant and do not seat the materials at a proper place these cause materials cannot use a long period of time. We also recommend our project; Our machine does not have its own motor system so any person can modify these by adding motor system. Our machine also does not work in a night time so other person can use electrical system and to use these machines for 24 hours. Our machine maximum carrying capacity is 120kg but other person can modify different part to increase carrying capacity 18
