Operating Systems
Describe with Users Base and
Processing Base operating system
Present by: Raja Mudasar Shabbir Khan (CI)
What is Operating System?
OS is a type of System Software.
OS manages all operations and components of a
computer system.
Computer cannot perform anything without OS.
Must b installed on every computer.
Interface between user and hardware.
:
01 Single user Operating systems:
Allows only one user to use the computer at a time.
Single user OS can be divided into two types.
a: Single user single tasking
Allow one user to perform one task at a time.
Example: DOS and Palm handheld computer is
used on personal computers.
Classification of Operating System
b: Single user Multitasking
-Allow single user to perform multiple tasks at a time
example: u can work on office, listen music,
-Downloading, searching internet at the same time.
-So this is type of OS is used on most personal
computers
2: Multi-user operating system.
Allows multiple users to use the same computer
at a time.
It manage the task of all the users efficiently.
it use in networking envoierment .
unix,linux,window server are examples
DESCRIBE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEM
ON THE BASIS OF PROCESSING
“A set of similar jobs is known as Batch
processing”
The batch processing is faster
it can process a large amount data
the bank can use Batch process to detect
monthly fee of account holders
Batch Processing
TIMESHARING PROCESSING
Time-sharing OS allows multiple users to
be served at the same time
At the same time, multiple online users
can utilise the same computer
It is no longer necessary to wait
for the previous task to complete
before using the processor.
Real time Processing
executes a job within a
specified time period.
it complete the given task and
responds very quickly.
used in that field where a
quick response is very critical.
