issues I’ve experienced in the past related to Cloud
Deakin links to library website content not working
properly. I did not receive any emails or messages from
students to suggest they had difficulties accessing any
materials which was a WONDERFUL change. This has
definitely saved me time and energy this trimester. And I
love that as I read articles or find useful resources, I just
click the ‘add’ button in Mozilla and I can add it to a list
for students to read in the future. Great for keeping

Deakin University implemented Talis Aspire after a successful pilot program. They proposed a two-year transition to a "digital preferred" policy for course readings using the Talis Resource List module. In 2015, they focused on creating reading lists for core units across various faculties manually or from information provided by academics. Their objectives for 2015 were to establish a foundation of lists and train academics. Their next challenges included integrating Equella links, cloud services, and improving bookmarking. Academic survey feedback was positive about the user-friendliness and accessibility of lists. For the user group meeting, Deakin wanted to learn about other universities' data migration, library control levels, workflows, and training approaches for Talis Aspire.

Presented at IGeLU 2016, Trondheim, Norway on on 7 September 2016. Imperial College London Library Services implemented Leganto as a development partner to provide a complete course recommended reading system for academics, students, and library staff; with a first phase launch in February 2016. We present what we learned from the project, with a practical, organisational change focus to help universities wishing to know the "why" as well as the "how" of implementing Leganto. I cover the value of business analysis using lean methods to analyse requirements and workflow before implementing; how we aligned our project with Ex Libris agile software development to get best value as a development partner; the ways we engaged faculty to align our service offer with their pedagogical concerns and deliver an improved user experience; and how we dealt with varying user needs across different departments, including using the LTI standard to integrate with our Blackboard learning management system and using the Alma APIs to deliver a custom integration for Imperial College Business School.

In order to help students withstand the rising cost of textbooks, and in turn support the mission of student success, the University of South Florida has implemented two electronic resource based initiatives as part of the Tampa Library’s Textbook Affordability Project. Through the E-books for the Classroom program, the Library purchases electronic versions of texts required for coursework, providing equitable access to needed materials at no cost to the students. For the past five years, this program has evolved into a highly successful Textbook Affordability measure, acquiring hundreds of e-books and serving thousands of students, as well as becoming an integral part of the e-book acquisition process. The Library, with the support of the Office of the Provost and in collaboration with other departments across the University, is publishing a faculty-authored multimedia Open Access Textbook to be used by hundreds of students each semester in USF’s children’s literature courses. The USF institutional repository, Scholar Commons, will host the textbook, making it freely available on a global scale. This program effectively uses library expertise and skills, coordinating university-wide faculty, professional, and technical resources, to create library-as-publisher for the benefit of the students and textbook affordability. This presentation will include a review of the need for these types of Library based initiatives, the processes involved in establishing and maintaining them, and a discussion of their challenges and successes along with plans for future improvements. Abstract: Those institutions that have pivoted rapidly from teaching face-to face to teaching fully online have learned many lessons over the last 18 months, both good and bad. But for some, this has been nothing new, instead it’s simply been business as usual. We have seen that those who fared better have well established frameworks in place to mediate their technology-enhanced learning offerings. That is, they have recognised processes that define how they translate what they have in policy, procedures and planning into practice. Such a framework can be found within a number of quality tools, that are designed to provide institutions with clear guidelines as to what need to be in place to facilitate a robust and consistent approach to teaching with technology. Once present, it makes it easier to undertake online teaching that does more than just mimic face-to-face practice, providing a robust platform to allow innovative pedagogies to thrive. Typically, this means the online learning has, or can become far more, active, collaborative and authentic. The Many Faces of Embedded Librarianship: How do we Evaluate Effectiveness?

Objective: The health sciences library of a comprehensive research university implemented embedded librarianship two years ago by placing librarians in the adult and children’s hospitals, in four colleges and on a partnership campus. The embedded librarians have spent the past year reviewing practices and working to create an evaluation tool to assess effectiveness. Methods: Embedded librarianship has been implemented in the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Dental Medicine, Nursing and Medicine as well as the Health System, and a satellite campus. Each librarian’s embedded model is different and based on the approach of the individual librarian and the needs of the areas served. Embedded librarians created a survey to measure the extent of embedded practices in other health science and hospital libraries. Librarians wanted to create a tool which would help evaluate our program with vastly different models from one are to the next and which could also help other institutions do the same. Results: A preliminary survey was distributed to health science librarians in early 2014 after IRB approval was obtained. Survey information was used to gauge interest in the need for a tool to evaluate embedded practices and form the basis of what evaluation has already been done in other programs. The survey showed a great deal of interest in embedding librarians and the need for a comprehensive way to evaluate program effectiveness. Librarians then worked to build an embedded program evaluation toolkit based on academic health science institutions. Conclusion: The toolkit consists of various parts with can be used in combinations that fit the embedded program being evaluated.
