3. DIFINATION
It is an electro-mechanical energy conversion device which
converts mechanical energy into useful DC electrical energy.
4. PRINCIPLE
It works on principle of Faraday’s law.
Faraday’s law: whenever a conductor cuts the machine field
an emf will be induce in the conductor.
7. STATOR
It is a stationary part in the machine which consists of Yoke, pole core,
pole shoe, field winding.
It is made up of cast iron / mild steel.
Yoke : It is the outer frame of the machine which provides mechanical
support to the whole machine.
Pole core: It provides low reluctance path per magnetic flux.
Pole shoe: It provides mechanical support to the field winding.
Field winding: It is made up of copper and it is excited by DC supply.
8. ROTOR
Rotor: it is rotating part in the machine which consists of
armacher pole and armacher winding.
Armacher pole: It is made up of silicon steel.
Armacher winding: It is made up of copper.
9. COMMUTATORS
It is act as a mechanical rectifier which converts AC to DC
and vice-versa.
It is made up of hard drawn copper.
10. BRUSHES
These are the current collectors.
It is made up of carbon / graphite material.
11. WORKING
Whenever rotating armacher conductors(rotor) cuts the
stationary magnetic flux (stator), an EMF will be induced in
the armacher conductor
The direction of an induced EMF can be founded by
Fleming’s right Hand.
Right Hand Rule: The four finger indicates the direction of
flux thumb finger indicates direction of motion of conductor
middle finger indicates direction of induced EMF of the
current.
