VIDEO AD
The task was to create an advertisement for a product that was chosen. Furthermore, I was put into
a group which consisted of the following people; Me, Cameron, Thomas, Keaton and Dean. First
what we did was brainstorm ideas from what could be included in the new advert, as well as
elements we could take out of the previous adverts. Next we assigned roles to each other and the
group roles were; Thomas: Director/Actor/Producer, Cameron: Actor/Producer Keaton:
Cameraman/Producer, Dean: Editor/Producer.
When creating the Lucozade advert, I played part in the role as assisting the camera-man and
helping out with the odd parts, as well as being a producer with editing and camera movements.
After deciding on roles I then made a storyboard of what would happen when we do finally record
the advertisement. I drew half of the storyboard whilst Tom did the other. When editing my own
advert I found quite struggling at first, but when getting used to the different techniques, I then
found it fairly easy to edit.
When we started finally filming there where some bad parts to it. For starters the location where we
wanted to film was already occupied, so we had to film in there whilst there were people around
making it hard to concentrate and get the right angles. More so, we could hardly hear each other
giving orders as there were many people talking. Another bad point was our filming was delayed as
the gym was fully booked up for the week, making production cease.
One of the advertising techniques used was the simple solution technique where it basically is
saying; “Buy this drink and you’ll be more athletic”. Another advertising technique used was having
the logo on the bottle being shown. Furthermore, the slogan was also included within the video but
that was the editing part where that was included. Last one was the comparison technique where it
shown another product compete against the product being advertised, making the product look
more powerful.
When editing I used the program Adobe Premier which is a good program to use with short videos
or advertisements, each person out of the group had to use the program to edit their own video. In
my video I had the song: Prodigy – Breathe, I used this as it went very well with the video. The up-
beat tempo combined with the actor running on the treadmill. I had to trim out the boring parts as
well as the poor parts of the filming. Going back to the advertising techniques I added the slogan
‘YES’ in the video as it is on most new Lucozade adverts; repetition. I also added the bottle where it
had a cool edited zoom on it, to get a close up of the product.
PRINT AD
I had to do another task, which was to create a print/still advertisement. The product was still the
same and when upon creating it I had to get some inspiration. I observed previous print adverts by
Lucozade and found out that repetition within the images was clear, as it used sports most the time.
So I got Cameron; Actor, to run on the treadmill and took photos of him whilst on there.
The program used to create the still advert was Adobe Photoshop; a popular image editor and
creator. The shot I chosen was Cameron on the treadmill, drinking the product. When editing I
added the other popular slogan with the still adverts for Lucozade ‘HYDRATES & FUELS YOU BETTER
THAN WATER’. Within the advertisement was the product itself again but a larger image of it in the
bottom left corner. It was placed in that location as it catches the eye of the audience.
RADIO COMMERCIAL
The last task I had to do was a radio commercial where I had to solely create myself but with a bit of
help from a voice actor. My commercial was for the new Volkswagen Golf. But before I finally
decided on the product I wanted to advertise I thought of doing Hula Hoops as there is one of my
favourite type of crisps.
When creating the advert I had to think of the script which was fairly easy to do as I took elements
out of old radio adverts for cars such as; Ford, Renault, Volkswagen… I noticed that most of the
advertisements had a deep voiced man reading out all the advantages to the car. I did my research
on the Golf and noted the main parts down. After that I had a brainstorm of a police officer pulling
the driver over and stopping him to ask questions about the new car and how good it is. The voice
actors were me the police officer and Cameron as the driver. I told Cameron to put on a ‘stoner’
voice which was an eerie, laid back voice. All this was put together good and after the third time of
the voice recordings I finally got it.
In conclusion, the things I learnt about advertising was it takes a long time to get the right recordings
and also takes a long time in producing it. Again one of the things I had to overcome was getting the
right recording for the advert so it can be at its best. If I had to redo the whole project I would
probably change the product to something I really enjoy such as; Sour Cream and Onion Pringles or a
game related product.
