6. To whom it may concern:
From: Tim Bailey, Bay City Public Schools, Social Studies Instructor
Regarding: David Allen Kolanek, BCPS Graduate in 2011
Consistency has always been considered the Achilles tendon of the teenage mind. Authors such
as Emerson wrote about consistency being the hobgoblin of little minds. In regards to David
Kolanek, Emerson is wrong. David is consistently involved, consistently prepared, and
consistently striving to do better than his peers in class or on an extracurricular team.
David Kolanek is a true gentleman, knowing right from wrong as well as accepting
accountability for his own actions. Whether David is writing an essay in regards to the Gulf War
being the spark that starts the end of world peace, or analyzing the impact professional sports has
on a community, David dives in head first and always lands on his feet.
While so many students today are content just to earn good grades without the knowledge of
what they have learned, it is refreshing as an instructor to be asked “why,” after the question has
been answered correctly.
David works hard to always be academically ready, and to David, finding the answers that he
does not know, is just self-expected. If David does not get all of the answers correct, he will
carefully digest the comments and corrections, so that he fully understands the material even
after the grade. This is what I consider to be skills for a Life Long Learner.
I will remember David Kolanek not only for his excellent work in Academics, but as well for the
tremendous show of athleticism and leadership that he bestowed on our class A football and
basketball teams for the last four years. David Kolanek is a fine student and will make a great
intellectual while becoming an active, positive citizen in our society.
Sincerely Yours,
Timothy J. Bailey

7. To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter of recommendation with regards to David Kolanek. I have known and worked
with David for the past five years. David played football for me at Bay City Western. During this time, I
observed David develop into an outstanding football player. More importantly, I have watched David
become a leader of his peers. David has an impressive work ethic and a strong desire to succeed. I have
seen him log many hours outside of scheduled workouts into his football endeavor. He is a young man
who truly leads by example on the practice and game field. He has always been very respectful and
open to coaching while remaining upbeat and positive. David takes this work ethic into the classroom,
where he has continued to achieve high grades, first at Bay City Western and then at Northwood
University. David is an extremely responsible and caring young man as well, as we have had discussions
about the progress of his younger brother in our football program.
I am quite confident that David will continue to succeed in his athletic and academic endeavors as a
result of his intelligence, his work ethic, and his devotion. It has been a great privilege on my part to be
able to work with David this five years. He will always be remembered by our football program for his
achievements on the field, but I will also remember the young tall, lanky kid who became a young man
who led his team to success.
Should you have any further questions or would like to know more about David, I would be happy to
give you any information I can.
Thank you,
Jeff Rahl

8. Chief Executive Officer: David Kolanek
As the CEO of Global United Bank, my main goal was to
increase our stock price through teamwork and unity amongst the
management team. Most of the decisions that we made regarding
the specific aspects of the bank were made as a team. I thought it
was important that I took charge of deciphering the economic
indicators and relaying to the group what I thought would be the
best direction for the bank for the specific quarter. I thought it was
in the best interest of our bank that I act in a facilitating role so as
to get everyone’s ideas on the table.
As the leader of our bank I felt it was very important to
keep on track of several ratios that paint a picture of how the bank
is performing. Return on assets and equity as well as earnings per share were at the forefront of my
concern. Although we would struggle in these particular areas throughout the last few years, I feel that
our bank is in a position where we will see large improvements in the upcoming quarters. The economy
played a big role in shaping how these ratios would look but as the economic prospects improve Global
United Bank can expect high return on assets, equity, as well earnings per share. That being said, as a
bank we were able to increase our stock price significantly (22%) which is the most important factor.
Some of our other accomplishments include:
Leader of our community in loans and deposits
Never having a Federal Funds Purchased violation
Investing 125 million in securities
Having an end balance of 0 in Federal Funds Sold
Consistently having sufficient liquidity
Increased dividends by 24%
