Mission Statement

I want to be a provider for my family and in doing so enjoy
my job and most of all excel in the things that I commit to.

“I am a man of my word, I hate letting
people down if I can help or contribute to
those around me. I want to see the success
of those around me, if not by my physical
assistance then by the words that I can
provide. I want to be a role model of
someone that stands for something. I want
to live every day for the savor of life.”
Leadership Philosophy

                     What’s your moment?

How I once cooked the greatest steak in the world, and have

learned a valuable lesson in trying to re-create it. I don’t want to

feel the disappointment of not succeeding or meeting that same

achievement of life’s past. Those that say “____ was the happiest

day of my life,” have thus been living a less happy life. Strive to

find the savor of life and aim to increase the success and life’s

highs every day.
Leadership is much like a slinky

The leaders have to start the forward movement and
guide the followers

If done correctly and with enough momentum then
progression is inevitable

Upon reaching the next goal (step), the followers
THEN become the leaders

Must beware of tension or group will not work
together

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is in regards to any request for an employment reference on David “OZ” Osmond.

Position within company:

Each season, our company has around 50 seasonal staff members. David joined our company in 2005 as
a seasonal driver/guide and earned $12.00 per hour. He worked his way up through the company, and
his last position within the company was that of a year-round “General Manager/Tour Director” and
earned $57,000 a year. He is eligible for rehire with our organization.

As a member of the general management team, he participated in all aspects (recruiting, hiring, training,
supervising, etc.) related to staff. As tour director, his responsibilities included networking with the
cruise ships and independent tour companies to help increase our company’s sales. I believe this aspect
of his job is relevant to your position because cruise ships have staff members of many different
cultures, and David was able to form positive, working relationships with all of them. Also, as tour
director, he was responsible for facilitating the timing of our entire tour operation.

Working with staff members:

David has the ability to quickly establish rapport with staff members of all ages and all different
backgrounds and beliefs. He has a fun and laid back attitude that helped him relate well to our staff,
many of which are between the ages of 21 and 50. He was well liked by all of our staff members. He
took the time to get to know staff members both professionally and personally and became friends with
many of them. He spent time helping them develop professionally at work, and he also took the time to
get to know them as individuals. This characteristic helped him be successful in leading our staff
members. Our staff members enjoyed working with him, and they enjoyed working for him. Overall, he
is a very social person, and this characteristic would enable him to be successful as a program
coordinator within your organization.

Supervising style:

Our staff members wanted to do what David asked of them simply because of the positive relationship
he was able to form with them. David’s management style is that of a laid back approach. He allowed
staff members to find the best way of accomplishing tasks but would step in when needed. Staff
members enjoyed the autonomy as well as the opportunity to be creative in accomplishing tasks. He
also uses a participative management approach. He would try to involve his subordinates in different
decisions, and he would always respect, as well as value their opinions and ideas. Another aspect of his
management style is that of “lead by example.” Many times, David would be working side-by-side with
his staff members, and staff members respected him for this reason. Overall, our staff members really
enjoyed working both with him and for him.

Large events he would have facilitated:

The general management team is responsible for coordinating numerous events throughout the season,
and David was actively involved in this regard. Pre-season, he would help coordinate our company’s
FAM trips. This is where ship staff comes to meet our company, and we pitch our tours to them. He
also helped coordinate several staff parties and gatherings throughout the season. We try to do at least
one company gathering each month, but some months more. These gatherings include food, games,
and other various activities. Since we have staff in both Skagway and Juneau, gatherings would be
coordinated separately. So, each month, we had a gathering for Skagway staff, and then we had a
different gathering in Juneau with our staff there. Outside of formal gatherings, David would coordinate
informal staff gatherings as he enjoyed spending time with staff outside of work hours.

Strengths and weaknesses:

David is very likeable and outgoing. He has the ability to very quickly form positive working relationships
with staff members. He has the ability to get staff members excited about their jobs and what they are
doing. Staff members would view him not only has their boss but their friend as well. These same
strengths would sometimes serve as a weakness, such as when certain staff members were in need of
very firm guidance. In these cases, David used his ability to be a team player and worked with others on
the general management team to resolve the situation. Overall, David is definitely a people person. He
is always willing to help with anything that needs to get done whether or not it may have been within
his job description. He does very well working with people. He is loyal as well as dedicated, and he is
passionate about what he does and brings a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm into the organization.

Overall recommendation:

Overall, we recommend David for your any position. We believe he will work very well with your
company. He would not only lead others, but he would work with them. He would teach them to make
decisions for themselves, providing guidance along the way. Your employee’s would love working with
him, and they would view him as both an authority as well as a friend. David has a passion for people,
and he wants to see people succeed. We are confident David would do whatever it takes to help your
company in any way he can. He would be there for them both professionally as well as personally. We
are confident he would bring energy, enthusiasm, and passion into your organization as he did ours. For
this reason, we strongly recommend David Osmond for your position.
I hope this helps answer any questions you may have regarding David Osmond. If I could be of any
further assistance to his application, please feel free to contact me. I can be contacted directly at 907-
