Daniel Defoe was an English journalist and author born in 1660 in London, England. He is considered one of the first novelists and wrote over 500 works on various topics. Some of his most famous novels include Robinson Crusoe, Moll Flanders, and Roxana. Defoe started his career writing political pamphlets but began writing novels in 1719, with Robinson Crusoe being published in 1719. He alternated between writing novels and political editorials throughout his career. Defoe died in London in 1731 at the age of 71.
