WORK EXPERIENCE
Design Engineer, Kiewit Engineering & Design Co., Lenexa, KS Aug 2015 to Sept 2016
A subsidiary of Kiewit. Full service engineering consulting firm, serving the power generation, power
delivery, air quality control systems, oil, gas, chemical, industrial water treatment and desalination
markets.
Support Engineer on TVA Allen Combined Cycle project:
Designed potable (consumable) water system and chemical feed system; Exercised analytical skills
in performing calculations to size and select piping, pumps and other equipment according to
contractual requirements, code regulations and industry/company standards.
Successfully managed procurement contracts for high pressure valves, in-line mechanical
specialties and vent silencers from proposal to delivery; Developed great, comfortable working
relationships with vendors and manufacturer through weekly conference calls in order to manage
material change orders.
Effectively communicated with project leads and collaborated with engineering team members to
ensure accurate determination of system parameters, materials and equipment selection.
Process Improvement team member; Participated in various initiatives, all of which having the objective
of improving the accuracy and efficiency of Kiewit’s design production process:
Developed autonomous Mathcad calculation template for sizing and selection of safety relief
valves on pressure vessels; Displayed initiative in organizing weekly check-in meetings with lead
to discuss progress and potential road blocks. Researched design considerations and selection
criteria from manufacturer-provided literature and ASME codes, and utilized analytical thinking
and problem solving skills to successfully construct a Mathcad template that takes user input
system parameters and automatically calculates relieving capacities of valves. This template
mitigates lead time, potential change orders for the steam silencer vendors, and up to 20
engineering man-hours.
Contributed in an initiative to standardize company’s equipment specifications; Collaborated
effectively with veteran engineers and constructability managers across multiple disciplines to
incorporate comments into standard piping, insulation and equipment specification. Utilized
resourcefulness by organizing meetings with senior employees and local vendors when the topic
was outside my scope of expertise.
2. Manufacturing Engineering Intern, Federal Mogul Corp, South Bend, IN Jan 2014 to Aug 2014
Global supplier of technologies and powertrain components in the passenger car, light and heavy-duty
commercial and off-highway vehicle, power generation, aerospace and marine markets.
Performed an analysis of measurement systems on the piston machining line; Determined
thermal coefficient for the piston outer diameters, identified sources of temperature variations,
and incorporated an enclosure to mitigate number of rejected parts.
Investigated an issue with system used to remove machining burs from grooves in pistons;
Researched new solutions and communicated with multiple vendors to determine a reasonable
alternative, resulting in the use of a less abrasive deburring brush in the machine. Coordinated
with technicians in the quality lab to perform tests and collect data that supported by conclusion.
Intern, Union Station Technology Center, South Bend, IN May 2013 to Aug 2013
A Subsidiary of Global Access Point; Design, construction and management of data centers and network
infrastructure for midsized and large enterprises, and provisions in telecommunication and cloud
services.
Part of team that commissioned the facility’s new redundant electrical system.
Collaborated with superiors to develop a platform for clear communication of project/initiative
status and progress.
Managed multiple projects, including the collection and organization of electrical system data,
and the auctioning of unneeded inherited assets.
