Dale Chihuly is an American glass artist born in 1941 in Washington. He studied interior design and was introduced to glassmaking. He later enrolled in the first glass program in the country and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study glassmaking in Venice. There he observed the team approach to glassblowing which influences his work. Chihuly is known for his vibrant, colorful glass sculptures and installations designed for specific exhibition spaces, created through collaboration with others. His works include basket-like Macchias, Persian-inspired forms, large chandeliers, and floating glass sculptures.
