The Blue Whale is the largest animal to ever exist, reaching up to 32.9 meters long and 190 tons. It has three distinct subspecies found in different ocean basins. Blue Whales were nearly hunted to extinction by whaling but are now protected. Their populations have rebounded slightly but remain much smaller than before whaling. Blue Whales mostly travel alone or in small groups and communicate over long distances using low-frequency sounds. They feed primarily on krill in cold waters and migrate to warmer waters to breed and give birth.
