Concept of Body: Yoga
Pancha Kosas: 5 layers (sheaths) of existence
 1.ANNAMAYA – Physical 5
                                                         4

 3.MANOMAYA – Mental

 4.VIGNANAMAYA – Wisdom

 5. ANANDAMAYA – Bliss

•These are not water tight compartments but merge into one another.
What is stress?
“Non specific basic response pattern of the body which
prepares it to handle a demanding situation”

 Fashionable! ( all ages)

 Multi-dimensional (all body systems)

 Varies from person to person (situation vs. reaction)

 Speed of thoughts
Stress – Yogic Perspective
      Vignanmaya (Wisdom) kosa:
“Cannot eat cake as I have
                diabetes”

Conflicts in Manomaya (Mental) kosa:
due to going against what is right “ I want
cake, I love it, I cant do without it”

  Pranamaya (Vital) Kosa Imbalances:
            (symptomatic)
symptoms of uneven breathing, wrong flow
          of prana, no rhythm

         Annamaya (Physical) Kosa:
   (manifestation of imbalance as disease)
    Improper digestion, physical ailments on
                 weak organs

Practice Points
 Eyes closed throughout the practice
 Focus only on listening to instructions and following
  them
 Perfection on posture is NOT the focus – maintaining
inner awareness and not letting mind wander is imp.
 Slow, continuous, steady movements
 Awareness on blood circulation, nerve impulses,
  heartbeats etc (internal)
 Experiencing the sound vibrations – Humming bee
  (Bhramri), AAAkara, UUUkara, MMMkara, A-U-M
 Preferably practice in evening after getting back from
  work – before dinner.
Expansion of Awareness
 Pointed awareness
      to
 Linear Awareness
      to
 Surface Awareness

      to
 3D Awareness
