Cyber terrorism involves unlawful attacks against computers, networks, and stored information to intimidate or coerce for political or social objectives. Public interest in cyber terrorism began in the late 1980s and increased as the year 2000 approached due to fears of the millennium bug. Cyber attacks are increasing in sophistication and coordination, and many targets would be commercial systems. To prevent cyber terrorism, governments and companies must be prepared through vigilance, updated security systems, strong passwords, and coordination across public and private sectors.
