three operations. Technical work including open pit designs, schedules of mining, processing, road
haulage, rail and shipping. Successfully developed integrated planning, production monitoring and
management system for MGI.
Between 2005 and 2013, I had established and operated long term planning system for Mount Gibson
Iron Ltd. We successfully undertaken LOM plan and business plan process to develop and operated
three iron ore operations in WA which added significant value to the company. The company was one
of top performer in ASX market Capitalisation from $40m in 2004 to $3B in 2008.
2. 2000 to 2005
KCGM – Senior Strategic Planner. Strategic planning for one of the largest gold mine in the world.
Undertaking LOM study for Fimiston Pit (Super Pit). Identifying, constructing and analysing strategic
options. Setting up a world-class integrated mine planning system for KCGM.
Commenced at KCGM early 2000, I had established a comprehensive and integrated Mine Strategic
Planning System to optimise KCGM’s mine plan with owner mining practice in the biggest gold mine
in Australia. This optimum mine plan has increased KCGM value by over 20% (sold with price of $2.6
billion in 2001). This system was described as a World Class Mine Strategic Planning System, after a
comprehensive 9 months review by Newmont and Barrick, which are top two gold mining companies
in the world.
Sons of Gwalia Ltd - Principal Mining Engineer. Undertaking LOM studies to evaluate strategic
options of SGW’s five operations. All strategic options were constructed with bottom up approach
which includes diluted resource model, open pit optimisations, final pit design, stage pit designs,
mining equipment and truck cycle time database, LOM schedules from pit to port.
1996 – 2000 WMC – Senior Strategic Planning Engineer. Strategic planning in a complex integrated
business, operations optimisation, feasibility studies and project development.
When I commenced working in a team of business planning and development at Leister operation
(Steve Cowle was manager) which was one of key operations of WMC (now BHP Nickel West), this
operation was about closed due to high unit cost and no profit margin. Through successful strategic
review, business planning and development, under leadership of the Business Planning Manger, we
developed new resource project and consolidated business plan to lower overall unit operating cost.
The Leinster operations was returned to cashflow positive in the lowest nickel price period and
generated significant cashflow for WMC in next 10 years and sold to BHP latter for multi billion
dollars value.
