Personal Summary
I am a seasoned Oil and Gas industry professional with more than 40 years experience. For the
past 25 years, I have held executive and senior management roles in North America and various
International locations.
Prior to my retirement in 2011, I served as Chief Operating Officer, S.E. Asia and Lead Officer of
Husky Energy, responsible for managing Husky Energy’s S.E. Asia Business activities including:
China and Indonesia Operations, Exploration, Acquisitions and New Business Development and
Commercial Negotiations. In addition, I led the Development of four large Offshore Gas Fields.
Previous roles within Husky included VP Engineering and Projects and Lead Officer responsible
for the strategies and execution plans for all Husky Projects worldwide , Facility Engineering and
Technical Services. Prior to my appointments in Husky I held senior E & P leadership positions
with Marathon Oil, Amerada Hess, Triton Energy and Occidental Petroleum with responsibility for
various business units and major international projects.
Since retirement I have served on several North American and Asian energy company Boards. I
am currently Lead Independent Director of Oando Energy Resources, a TSX listed entity.
Additionally, I serve on two Global Christian Not-for-Profit organizations, namely Mission Aviation
Fellowship Canada, where I serve as Chairman and Opportunity International Canada.
Within my Board responsibilities I serve on the following committees Audit & Risk, Finance, Board
Development, Reserves and Resources, Nominating and Corporate Governance. Some of
which as Committee Chairman.
Professional Experience
HUSKY ENERGY 2004 to late 2010
Chief Operating Officer S.E. Asia
Overall responsibility for managing Husky Energy’s S.E. Asia business including: China and
Indonesia Operations, S.E. Asia Exploration, Acquisitions and new Business Development,
Commercial Activity and Deepwater Developments in China and Indonesia . Focus of
responsibility is on strong reserves and production growth, increasing earnings, cash flow and
return on capital. Additionally, the expeditious development of three deepwater fields in
offshore China and one other offshore development in Indonesia ( $6.0 billion ). Additionally,
timely exploration and reserve additions from other exploration blocks in S.E. Asia. Also a
Lead Officer of the Corporation
Vice President and Lead Officer – Engineering and Project Management
Responsible for the strategies and execution plans for all Projects, Facility Engineering, Technical
Services and International Operations within Husky Energy ( $2.5 billion annually ). Focus of
responsibilities is on cost effectiveness and timely execution of all Projects globally from feasibility
through execution, start up and handover to operations.
Ensure Projects are delivered within approved cost and scheduled targets through continued
development and competent use of best practices, project management processes, project planning
and controls and risk management.
Maintain the corporate high standard of stewardship in Health, Safety, Environment and Risk
Management while adding value through continuous improvement.
TRITON EQUATORIAL GUINEA INC 2001 to 2004
Vice President (April 2001 – June 2004)
Was responsible for all in country activity, which included oil and gas production, Business Unit
performance, exploration, new Oil and Infrastructure Developments, HSE, and Government
Relations in the country of Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. This includes management of all the
company’s existing assets, development of six new oil fields and continuing exploration activities. All
associated with fast track deep and shallow water developments.
MARATHON OIL COMPANY 1982 – 2000
President & CEO, Marathon Canada Limited, Calgary (Sep 98 – Dec 00)
Effectively led the formation and development of Marathon Canada Limited following Marathon Oil
Company’s acquisition of Tarragon Oil & Gas. Also led Marathon Canada through a period of
significant organizational change in which significant revenue enhancements and expense
reductions were achieved. Responsible for business strategy, continuous improvement of financial
performance, and profitable growth of all Marathon’s activities in Western Canada and offshore
Nova Scotia.
President & CEO, Marathon Power Company, Houston, TX (3 years)
Conceived and managed start-up of this new electrical power generation company which provided
efficient, competitively priced electricity to both private and public sector customers, focused
particularly on international markets. Responsible for strategy, financial performance and establishing
satisfactory relations with the community, government and partners. Marathon Power was an active
developer, owner and operator of independent power projects in Asia, Latin America, Europe and
Africa.
Manager, Operations Planning, Houston, TX (1 year)
Reporting to the executive vice president of Worldwide Exploration and Production, developed and
coordinated short-term and long-term business strategies for all Worldwide Exploration and
Production activity. Advised senior executive on environmental and industry issues. Participated in re-
engineering and restructuring of the Worldwide Upstream business.
Project Director, Sakhalin Island Project, Russia (2 years)
Led the feasibility study and all conceptual engineering, including negotiation and approval of
development plans from the Russian government for this large onshore and offshore multi-field
development project at Sakhalin Island, Russia. This was the first PSC negotiated and the largest
project ever evaluated in Russia. (US$ 12 billion) This involved managing and coordinating multi-
disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, with staff from the UK, Japan, Russia and USA., within an
extremely tight deadline. The offshore facilities are now in operation and the LNG plant nearing
completion.
Regional Manager, Alaska (2 years)
Functioned as the senior executive responsible for Marathon’s operated and non-operated assets in
Alaska, which included the profitability of the enterprise, acquisition and disposition of assets, new
business development, and regulatory and company compliance. This region included seven
platforms, onshore production facilities, onshore and offshore oil and gas pipelines, and a number of
onshore oil and gas fields.
Production Manager, UK North Sea Operations (5 years)
Responsible for hook-up, commissioning, start-up, of offshore facilities and management of the day-
to-day operations of a large retrograde gas condensate field. This US $1.5 billion platform was the
first offshore condensate production facility with gas recycling in the North Sea. Processing facilities
included 80,000 bpd liquid recovery (including NGLs) with 1 bcfpd high pressure gas re-injection
facilities and a large 75 MW power plant. This involved responsibility for over 2,000 personnel
offshore.
Platform Manager, South Brae, UK (1½ years)
Managed a $1.3 billion platform that was one of the largest and most sophisticated in the North
Sea. Facilities included 110,000 bpd crude processing, 1.0 billion c.f.d. gas re-injection compression
equipment, Selexol gas sweetening and NGL facilities and 90 MW power generation plant, all under
fully computerized central control room operation.
Production Superintendent, South Brae, UK (1½ years)
Responsible for initial planning and development of the offshore organizational structure, recruitment
and staff training. Developed initial processes and procedures, and ultimately was responsible for
more than 120 employees.
OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM 1975 – 1982
Operations Manager, Libya (1982)
Responsible for all Occidentals’ field operations during the transition resulting from U.S. government
sanctions in 1982. This involved managing all Oxy’s oil and gas production operations throughout
Libya, including management of all assets, and national and expatriate staff for more than 1 mmbpd
of oil and 1 bcfd of gas re-injection facilities.
Senior Maintenance Superintendent, North Sea Operations – (2½ years)
Established maintenance policies, long-term maintenance programs, sparing policies, maintenance
procedures, overhaul policies/programs. Determined expenditures for capital spares, held
responsibility for a sizeable budget, and led 95 people.
Maintenance Superintendent, North Sea Operations (2½ years)
Managed the maintenance program and personnel first on the Claymore platform and later on the
Piper platform.
SOUTH OF SCOTLAND ELECTRICITY BOARD 1970 – 1976
Shift Operations and Maintenance Manager, Nuclear Power (2 years)
Responsible for all operations, maintenance and safety activities on shift of two large nuclear power
stations (1770 MW combined) at Hunterston A and B nuclear power facilities.
Fuel Handling Maintenance/Commissioning Engineer, Nuclear Power (1½ years)
Responsible for final commissioning and operations of all uranium handling and process equipment
in a power station of a new high tech 1200 MW AGR nuclear power plant.
Reactor Maintenance Engineer, Nuclear Power (1½ years)
Managed sophisticated reactor fueling and processing equipment for a nuclear power plant at
Hunterston.
Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Power (1 year)
Participated on an overhaul team for a 1200 MW coal-fired power station at Cockenzie.
