2000 – 2007 Mankiewicz UK (formerly MFB Coatings)

business with existing customers, introducing new and existing products. Technical backup. Product
training with customers. Introducing new customers to our company, showing them the products we have
available to them, demonstrations, samples left with customer. Follow up visits and calls. Customer
satisfaction.
Same job as MFB Coatings, but travelling all over the country, from Plymouth to Edinburgh, introducing
new customers to our company and the products we supply. Also keeping all existing customers up to
date with our products. Mankiewicz split Nextel up into ‘areas’ so I dealt with commercial (sprayers,
designers etc) Marine customers, including a few blue chip companies, Industrial customers (bespoke
furniture manufactures and finishers). We were also involved in aviation and automotive departments. We
had over 400 clients at one time, varying from the large companies like FAIRLINE BOATS
(www.fairline.com) and PRINCESS YACHTS (Princess-yachts.com) where they used Nextel on the dash
boards. We also had many architects as clients, and one of the projects we did was in Canary Wharf, The
Barclays Bank Building. Many of the other customers were sprayers, joiners and designers/architects, like
Boss Design, Brinkworth Design (who deal with NIKE) Pringle Brandon Architects, and also many
museums, we did a large job in The Liverpool Museum, and Museum of Scotland too. This specialised
paint has a very wide usage, from tabletops, to music speakers. We did not go by Targets, but by
customer satisfaction. But our year end figure was around £200,000 for one product.
There we no set targets at Mankiewicz or MFB Coatings, as it was new business to Mankiewicz UK. But
as the areas were split up, I trebled the sales in the Marine division, while the commercial side stayed the
same, as most of the customers that use the paint, use it on a one off project. MFB Coatings originally
sold the paint as a distributor, but when MFB retired, the business went back to the manufacturer,
mankiewicz gebr in Hamburg, and I worked at their UK division.
