The cuckoo search algorithm is a recently developed meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, which is suitable for solving optimization problems. To enhance the accuracy and convergence rate of this algorithm, an improved cuckoo search algorithm is proposed in this paper. Normally, the parameters of the cuckoo search are kept constant. This may lead to decreasing the efficiency of the algorithm. To cope with this issue, a proper strategy for tuning the cuckoo search parameters is presented. Then, it is employed for training feedforward neural networks for two benchmark classification problems. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with that of the standard cuckoo search. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

My research is focused on the development and characterization of stimuli (e.g. electric field/magnetic field) responsive smart polymeric materials.
I worked with dielectric elastomer (e.g. VHB F9473PC, VHB 4905 , PDMS) to yield electric field actuated smart structures. Then I started working with PVDF-based polymers . My study includes lab scale casting of thin films, electrical & mechanical characterization of polymer/elastomer, realization of smart structures using electroactive polymers(EAPs) and analytical modelling of smart materials.

PLC based home automation (undergrad thesis)Sameer Patel
This project aims at automating many home appliances. The appliances are
controlled automatically and the functioning of the appliances is controlled by
the programmable Logic Controller (PLC). As the functioning of the appliances
is integrated with the working of PLC, the project proves to be accurate,
reliable and more efficient than the existing controllers.
The processes that are proposed to be automated in this project are:-
1. Interior and Exterior Lights
2. Burglar Alarm
3. Fire Alarm
4. AC On/Off, Lights On/Off and Fans On/Off Using DTMF
Also, the functioning of many of these devices will be interconnected depending
upon the events that occur. The monitoring of the complete process will be done
through SCADA.
Multi-Wavelength Analysis of Active Galactic NucleiSameer Patel
This dissertation explores the current research methods and analysis adopted for the study of Active Galactic Nuclei in all wavelengths of the electromagnetic radiation. Being the most violent objects that one can see in the present Universe, AGNs have been attributed to emitting radiation in all wavelengths and still exhibit various unexplained phenomena, alongside with being the probes to the very early Universe. The unification of the AGN model is also included for completeness, albeit not confirmed in its entirety.

Project :The Dynamical Evolution of Magnetic Fields in Magnetar Crusts
This work looks at some definitive signatures of magnetars, in particular of
period closures accompanied by a steep decline of X-radiation. We review
some of the previous works which are based on the well known dynamo mode
in which the star is born with a period of a few milliseconds at high
temperatures. This is in contrast to our model which posits that a high
density phase transition occurs in the inner core of magnetars that dynamically
aligns all the neutron magnetic moments producing a large magnetic field
in the core.
