"Gender" comes from Latin
word genus which mean "kind "
or "type". In the few hundred
years before the 1950, the term
gender was used only in the
field of grammar. In 1955,a
science began used the word
gender new way when referring
to people, In a way that was
related to their" sex" but not
quite the same.

3. Female issues:
• Domestic violence:
• Domestic violence in Pakistan is an endemic social and public health
problem. According to a study carried out in 2009 by human right watch,
it is estimated that between 20 and 30 percent of women in Pakistan
have suffered some from of abuse.As estimated 5000 are killed per years
form domestic violence, with thousands of others maimed or disabled.
• A cross sectional survey of 490 randomly selected women from a rural
health center in Pakistan of reproductive age reported that, 65% of those
interview had experience domestic violence.

4. Less educational opportunities for girls:
Girls in rural areas face many problems especially in backward areas or villages
where women are bound by cultural prejudices. They have been forced to
remain within homes.
Sexual violence on college campuses:
Females are usually harassed in colleges and universities due to which most of
the girl are out of institutions.

5. Dominance of males:
Makes can be seen to be more dominant, as compared to
females, in Pakistan society,

Forced and child marriages:
• Marriage before the age of 18 years.
• Occurs most often in rural and low income households where
education is minimal.

6. Transgender :
though Pakistan is known as a conservative country, in 2018, the parliament
passed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act. This bill has been
called ‘a landmark’ and ‘one of the world's most progressive trans rights bills’. It
allows people to choose their gender and makes it possible to have that gender
officially stated in their ID card. The bill also prohibits several forms of
discrimination - for example in schools and at work. It allows inheritance for
transgender people and enables them to run for public office. Additionally, in
July 2021 Pakistan opened the first state-funded school for transgender
women.
Despite these actions, discrimination of transgender people is still evident in
various parts of social life including the healthcare system, the workplace,
public bathrooms as well as during the interaction with law enforcement
agencies. Kami Sid says: ’I identify as a transgender woman since the age of 22.
In my experience, it's very hard to be a transgender person in Pakistan because
people don't give you your own space. People don’t respect you or tell you that
you are alright.’
