6. "Gender" comes from the Latin
word genus which means "kind" or
"type". In the few hundred years
before the 1950s, the term 'gender'
was used only in the field
of grammar. In 1955,
a scientist began to use the
word gender in new ways when
referring to people, in a way that was
related to their 'sex' but not quite the
same.

■ Same sex marriages are not allowed in Pakistan

■ Responsibility of children’s marriages over male

■ Protector:
■ Protecting self-esteem and self-worth of oneself
and family
■ Money Maker:
■ It is a responsibility of male to make money for

■ Domestic Violence:
■ Domestic violence in Pakistan is an endemic social and public
health problem. According to a study carried out in 2009
by Human Rights Watch, it is estimated that between 20 and 30
percent of women in Pakistan have suffered some form of
abuse. An estimated 5000 women are killed per year from
domestic violence, with thousands of others maimed or
disabled.
■ A cross-sectional survey of 490 randomly selected women from
a rural health centre in Pakistan of reproductive age reported
that 65% of those interviewed had experienced domestic
violence.
■ Impact: Divorce and suicide, physical and psychological health
effect
■ Less Educational Opportunities for Girls:
■ Girls in rural areas face many problems especially in backward areas or
villages where women are bound by cultural constraints and
prejudices. They have been forced to remain within homes.

■ Females are usually harassed in colleges and
universities due to which most of the girls are out of
institutions
■ Dominancy of Males:
■ Males can be seen to be more dominant, as compared
to females, in Pakistani society. Such as,

■ Killing of females by their family members due to the
belief that the victim has brought shame for them and
violated the norms of society
■ Forced and child marriages:
■ marriage before the age of 18 years
■ occurs most often in rural and low-income households
where education is minimal

■ Pakistan is the largest Islamic state
in the world. Islam has given equal
rights to everyone. Unfortunately,
apart from being an Islamic state
transgender are neglected by the
government and the local societies
of Pakistan.
■ There are many NGOs working for
human rights but they also have
ignored the issue of transgenders.

■ We find that in Pakistan the transgender are ignored in
every walk of life including, education, employment,
health care and even security of their life. In 2013,
Supreme Court of Pakistan has given rights to
transgenders which still are not implemented. Not only
the society, but their families are not accepting them as
their family members.
■ Disrespected:
■ Humiliation faced by the surroundings
■ Calling names
■ Impact: Depression, aggressiveness and isolation

■ In Pakistan, they are not even employed in the job sector.
Rather, males and females are preferred to be hired.
■ Impact: This leads them to make money through illegal and
unethical ways like, dancing in the events.
■ Not Accepted by their families and society:
■ Regretfully, they are rejected by their own families as well as
societies. They are either killed or ousted from their homes to
earn money for them.
■ No educational rights:
■ They don’t have access to get education as they are not
enrolled in educational institutions. Even if they get
enrollment, they are bullied by others.

give them chance in every aspects of life.
