Cultural revolution is defined as a major change that impacts the way people in a culture lead their lives. This could be anything from a major terrorist attack like September 11, 2001 that impacts a feeling of security, or a change in technology that changes how people interact and work. It could be a positive change such as the fall of Communism in Europe during the 1980s, or a change in attitudes about women or minorities. Cultural revolutions can impact a single country or the global economy. In your own life, a cultural revolution may be a change in religious practice and belief, or an event that restructures the family unit. There are a variety of ways that culture and revolution can be defined, and this will be explored through two interviews. Be prepared for the interview. . You will select two people and interview them about the cultural revolutions that have had the most impact upon their lives. You should create at least 4–5 questions to ask, and be prepared to ask follow-up questions if you want more information. The objective is to see the impact of cultural revolutions upon societies, but an effective way to learn about the view of a member in the society is to ask an individual. You will not be required to prepare a transcript of the interviews, but you should take notes so you can answer the Assignment question. The replies to the questions below, Part I and Part II, should be between 500–700 words. I. One at a time, you will want to introduce the person you are interviewing and explain why you chose them for the interview. Then, you will summarize their replies and highlight one or two interesting ways they viewed the cultural revolution as having an impact upon their life. How has this revolution improved or made life more challenging? How have they changed? How has their family changed? After you complete these steps with the first interview, write the same information for the second interview. II. Upon reviewing the assigned readings related to theoretical approaches in regard to Psychological Theories of Poverty, I choose theories that demonstrate both the individual-related, and structural/cultural-related theories that address conceptualized representation of forseen structural issues and or barriers that further contribute to society’s experienced marginalization. The initial theory that represents individual related perspective, would be the ecological theory which in a sociological lens connects social entities with their environments. The two mentioned methods that are fundamental to the ecological theory are “adaptation and selection”. Adaptation can be referred as the process by which an entity modifies, in order to survive optimally within its given environment; selection is the process that highlights the less adapted to a set environments condition (Aldric, 1979). The ecological theory essentially can be known to emphasize one’s attention to the behavior of the social environment, and the nature of resiliency observed by behavior demonstrated (Turner & Lehning, 2007). The second theory, I elected to reference that I believe further referenced the marginalization contributed to issues and barriers is the naturalizing perspective theory in conjunction with the cultural-relativistic perspective, which validates that intrinsic biological factors that may lead to poverty in addition to suggesting that poorer communities experience different culture exposures from the rest of society. The culture of poverty theory focuses on the role social environments create in a culture of poverty, individuals classified in this category are more likely to experience family tensions, lack of refined emotions, along additional persistent familial, economical, and medical concerns (Turner & Lehning, 2007). This theory further explores the lack or poor political, economical, and social freedom that individuals are deprived of. Moreover, both theories allow social workers to further expand on issues that further debilitate communities that are more necessitated than others, among identifying the lack of resources, and or neglect of the targeted population. In which case, Social Workers can take it upon themselves to further facilitate further insight on resources the respected communities and or clients would benefit from yet utilizing cultural humility and competency.

While we may not notice, society is constantly changing. For sociologists, social change is the continual change of society's culture, structure, and institutions over time. Every society experiences change—it is through this change that the norms and understandings in a society become altered. Fashion is a great example of social change, as what we wear is dependent on the culture at the time. One hundred years ago it was not common for women to wear pants. Now it is perfectly acceptable. While most women are in favor of being able to wear pants, social change is sometimes not always welcome by members of a society. Can you think of any groups or organizations in the United States that are actively opposed to some kind of social change?
Most social change is the result of conflict, demographic change, and technology.
Conflict and change: Conflict in a society (such as a war or even an election) can create significant change in a society.
Demographic change: Changes in the make-up of a population can also affect society. As the makeup of our society in terms of sex, race, age, et cetera, changes, so do many structural and cultural elements of society. How would our society be different if most of the population was under the age of 10? Or over the age of 70?
Ideas and Change: Technology is often a driving force behind social change and has brought significant changes to our society. Think back to twenty years ago—how different was society in terms of technology? How did that impact your everyday life? In our current time, our cell phone alarm wakes us up, we check our smart phone, make some coffee in our Keurig, remote start our car, and then use our navigation system to get us to work. This is a significantly different experience than we had twenty years ago.

Mrs. Greene has one son, David Greene. David has the power of attorney to handle his mother’s health care and other personal affairs. David works as a trial attorney in one of the city’s largest and most prestigious law firms. He owns a large home in an upscale neighborhood and works hard to put two of his children through college and another one through medical school. His home is about an hour’s drive from his workplace and about 20 minutes from Shady Brook. David’s wife Barbara has never been close to her mother-in-law and has not shown much interest in her care. She and her husband had resided together in this home for more than 50 years. Mrs. Greene is 89 years old and suffers from several health problems associated with aging.
Mrs. Greene has one son, David Greene. David has the power of attorney to handle his mother’s health care and other personal affairs. David works as a trial attorney in one of the city’s largest and most prestigious law firms. He owns a large home in an upscale neighborhood and works hard to put two of his children through college and another one through medical school. His home is about an hour’s drive from his workplace and about 20 minutes from Shady Brook. David’s wife Barbara has never been close to her mother-in-law and has not shown much interest in her care. Hence, caring for his mother has become a major responsibility for David, and he is having a difficult time dealing with her declining health and the onset of mild dementia. It is becoming increasingly more difficult for David to leave his law practice or the court room to deal with issues related to his mother.

He took a .38-caliber revolver from his desk and shot Mike, killing him instantly. Dale then went into the kitchen and took a handful of tranquilizers. He did not die. He awoke the next morning as somebody pounded on the front door. It was a neighbor who, seeing that Dale was dazed and confused, decided to call an ambulance and the police. The responding police officer conducted an investigation, and Dale was arrested and charged with the premeditated, 1st-degree murder of Mike. The prosecutor, although noting it to be a difficult case, pursued the case because she thought that no citizen had the right to decide when someone should die. Dale Parak pled guilty to 1st-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 5 years in a maximum-security prison. (Note: This was the lowest sentence that could be given to a defendant convicted of his crime.) •What is your personal definition of “justice”? What is the formal definition of “justice”? Do you believe that “justice” was served in this scenario? •What is the state definition of the charge that you would file as the prosecutor against Dale? Did Dale commit each of the components and elements of the crime? The elements for 1st-degree, premeditated murder are 1) the unlawful killing; 2) with malice aforethought; 3) of another human being. Explain how each element was or was not committed. •According to the definition of justice you provided, was this sentence just? Why or why not? •If you were the prosecutor in this case, would you have charged Dale Parak with any crime? With 1st-degree murder? - 1. Cultural revolution is defined as a major change that impacts the way people in a culture lead their lives. This could be anything from a major terrorist attack like September 11, 2001 that impacts a feeling of security, or a change in technology that changes how people interact and work. It could be a positive change such as the fall of Communism in Europe during the 1980s, or a change in attitudes about women or minorities. Cultural revolutions can impact a single country or the global economy. In your own life, a cultural revolution may be a change in religious practice and belief, or an event that restructures the family unit. There are a variety of ways that culture and revolution can be defined, and this will be explored through two interviews. Be prepared for the interview. . You will select two people and interview them about the cultural revolutions that have had the most impact upon their lives. You should create at least 4–5 questions to ask, and be prepared to ask follow-up questions if you want more information. The objective is to see the impact of cultural revolutions upon societies, but an effective way to learn about the view of a member in the society is to ask an individual. You will not be required to prepare a transcript of the interviews, but you should take notes so you can answer the Assignment question. The replies to the questions below, Part I and Part II, should be between 500–700 words. I. One at a time, you will want to introduce the person you are interviewing and explain why you chose them for the interview.
- 2. Then, you will summarize their replies and highlight one or two interesting ways they viewed the cultural revolution as having an impact upon their life. How has this revolution improved or made life more challenging? How have they changed? How has their family changed? After you complete these steps with the first interview, write the same information for the second interview. II. Finally, you should draw conclusions about the process and the answers that were given. Compare and contrast the results of the interviews. Discuss what was similar or different in the replies. What did you learn about how these interview subjects saw their role in society? What is their attitude about the opportunities and challenges of this cultural revolution?
