3. Umbertide
Is a town and comune (township) of Italy, in the province of Perugia in northwestern Umbria, at
the confluence of the Reggia river and the Tiber. It is 30 km (19 mi) North of Perugia and 20 km
(12 mi) South of Città di Castello. With 15,300 inhabitants according to the 2003 census,
Umbertide is one of the larger towns of Umbria; and basically flat, which is relatively unusual for
the region. It is an important regional industrial center producing machine tools, farm
machinery, textiles, packaging material, and ceramics.
Umbertide or the surrounding area was inhabited in pre-Roman and Roman times.
Umbertide was founded in the 8th or 10th century, depending on the scholar; its original name
was Fratta, and it received its present name in 1863 in honor of then Crown Prince Umberto.

7. Our Association
“Amici del Centro socio-culturale san Francesco” is a no profit association located in
Umbertide (Perugia) which is brought to principles of democracy and cultural, philosophical
and religious pluralism.
As the main statute explain, the principal purposes of the association are:
- Spread the knowledge of the cultural facts in their various forms of expression (literature,
theatre, cinema, picture, music, science...);
- Permit a direct and spontaneous participation of the citizens to create culture and
cultural events;
- promote a culture of peace based on knowledge and the respect of the values of whom
every society is based on;
- take back and promote the values and heritage of local cultures;
- take care and respect the right of the citizens (health, environment, good administration...)
without any distinctions of sex, age, social condition, and cultural origins;
- facilitate aggregation process, promoting moments of everyday life, of meeting, of
dialogue, with a particular attention to less protected classes;
- promote and administer upgrade courses for teachers and also professional courses.
The association has already realized displays, courses, meeting with authors, musicians and
has worked with the local schools in several projects.
“Amici del Centro socio-culturale san Francesco” has also looked after the 'Poetry Prize XXV
April' since its birth (arrived at the 32st edition this year).

8. Since few years we are working a lot on the intergenerational field, trying to recover the ancient
traditions, different old jobs, etc...developing literature activities-events involving mixed group
(Pupils + Grandparents). The organization is also involved in other activities, always in the social-cultural
field, like:

9. “RHUMORS” High school contests
Design and realization of ADV spot concerning youth, welfare, environment,
war and social issues.
Training course on writing, use ICT, Use media-video tools, post-production.

10. Piedibus
Promoted by the CSC S. Francesco and realized in collaboration with the primary schools of
Umbertide, the Municipality, parents association, shops in the town, other social association of
the town, Polizia Municipale Umbertide, ASL1 (Health Public Local Company).

11. Science and Environmental activities
“Science at the city center”
We also developed different activities
directed to young people and parents: learn
about science, open air, through non formal
education activities.
The event has been developed in
collaboration with the some environmental
experts and the Municipality of Umbertide.
During this activities pupils and parents take
part in several workshops with specialists
and trainers.

managed by an organization which works in collaboration with CSC San Francesco
and the Municipality of Umbertide.
