context
Among the oldest in the world, Matera
represents an extraordinary chapter in
the history of man throughout more than
10,000 years. It is the city of the Sassi,
the original urban center, initially
developed from natural rocky caves and
then shaped into more and more complex
structures.
The Sassi have been declared a UNESCO
World Heritage Site in 1993: the 6th
site in Italy
in chronological order, and the first in the south.
Their unique architectural structure show the
man's ability to adapt in a perfect way to the
environment and natural context.
5. The Sassi are a real open-air museum, an
absolute masterpiece, a tangible sign of
intelligence, creativity and adaptability. It is
absolutely the best context for a cultural and
creative incubator. This place has an undeniable
social, symbolic and aesthetic value,
representing a stimulus and a boundless source
of inspiration.
Another asset of the incubator is its location in an
economic context characterized by the strategic
presence of the upholstery district, several artisan
firms working with traditional raw materials
(stone, wood, leather, clay), and many successful
companies operating in the film production and
cultural tourism sectors.
