CRITIQUE ON SOCIAL NETWORKING
IntroductionSocial networking is becoming prevalent in modern society and from my point of view one of the most common questions being asked is whether it is suitable of being used in education. The first few slides give a basic overview of social networking. The pros and cons and integration into the classrooms are points that are outlined in this presentation on the very popular topic of social networking.WHAT IS SOCIAL NETWORKING?Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups for interaction. It was commonly present in person to person (live) interaction in all and any places such as the workplace, and schools. WHY USE SOCIAL NETWORKING?Online social networking use websites, that function as online communities to internet users. Online community members share common interests in hobbies, religion and even politics. You can begin to socialize once granted access to a social networking websites, where unlike most places, is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to socialize, to meet other people, to develop alliances, to find employment, perform marketing and where lots of people gather and share information and experiences about cooking, life, school, education, golfing, gardening etc.http://www.whatissocialnetworking.com/
WHY STUDENTS USE SOCIAL NETWORKING?To socialize.
Secondary school students may use it to:
Gossip.
To keep tabs on friends and enemies.
To assist them with school work by chatting with other students.
To become a little more social and popular.
For communication reasons.
To play games associated with the social networking site.
To upload and display photos.Tertiary/collage students use social networking for the same reasons as secondary students, however this batch of students use it more for school work, keeping in touch with group members, keeping in touch with lecturers, and for having communication and interactions with fellow students throughout the school, country and the world. Social networks expose these upper level students to a variety of ideas.
Benefits/Advantages/ProsOne can make hundreds and even thousands of friends.
