Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Research Paper
A monster oftentimes is defined by society as physically grotesque beings who act in
an
unnatural manner and are often cast out or isolated; however, monstrosity extends far
beyond
this simplistic definition into an entire distinguished realm of paramount importance.
Man s
perpetual desire to grasp ahold of something unseen or unexperienced before, often
stretching
human limitations and moral standards no matter the consequences, defines what it
truly means
to be a monster. This idea of monstrosity lies not only at the heart of Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein written in 1818, but also at the center of modern controversy over the
expansion of
scientific and technological innovation. Scholars such as Shelley question how far

The Tyranny Of Tonality Analysis
In the words of Jewish Austrian composer and painter Arnold Schoenberg; or
Schönberg, harmony was freed from the tyranny of tonality . Schoenberg s term is
interesting in its suggestion that the tonal system exerts an overpowering pressure to
conform. The carefully ordered hierarchal keys; with its singularity, central focus on
each movement or work, and tonal centres that made up the tonality of centuries old
harmonic basis of musicbecame of less importance and had outlived its usefulness as
atonality; which is a system without key that is deliberately avoided gained
popularity. This music utilizes several chromatic notes with the intention of hearing
no tonal centers.
Later commentators spoke similarly of music being emancipated
Autoimmune Neuromuscular Diseases

because the patients had to be monitored frequently. Some examples of autoimmune
neuromuscular disorders are myasthenia gravis (MG), Lambert Eaton myasthenic

autoimmune neuromuscular disorders are conditions that affect peripheral nerves,
neuromuscular junctions or muscles. In fact, in the neuroscience field there is
plethora of discussions of treatment options for many of these neurological conditions

The major complications associated with this treatment are increased risk of stroke
and other thromboembolic events, aseptic meningitis (an illness characterized by
serous inflammation of the linings of the brain) and fluid overload if you had
previous conditions such as liver problems, blood clots, etc. In non technical
language, it simply means if a patient has had circulatory problems this treatment is
not recommended for them because the doctors fear you may have a stroke or other
blood related complications. Plasma exchange is a well established procedure in the
treatment of autoimmune disorders. Mechanisms of action of therapeutic
plasmapheresis include removal of antibodies, immune complexes, toxins or
cytokines. Complications associated with plasmapheresis include hypotension,
hypocalcemia and complications associated with maintenance of intravenous access.
Its therapeutic role has been established in the treatment of Guillain BarrГ©

acquired neuromyotonia, stiff man syndrome, and cryoglobulinemic polyneuropathy,

to not be combined with IVIG because it can create a reaction unwanted by that
The Social Media And Communications Industry Essay
In the social media and communications industry, many companies began on a small
scale and progressed to improve their product by merging with a new company to
create a stronger product and expand their market internationally while some
businesses remained in North America and did not merge with other companies but
settled for the status quo. In this paper, I will discuss two companies that chose
different paths and the pros and cons of the business decisions each company made.
Mark Zuckerberghad a vision to create change. He has always said that was his
goal. What he created is one of the most groundbreaking forms of social networking
in history. Facebook began in 2004 and eventually made Mark Zuckerberg a
billionaire. What began as an idea with his friends from Harvard University, is now
one of the most famous companies in the world. He wanted to change the way
people communicate, so he and his friends designed an original internet platform
called Facemash in 2003 which was just available to Harvard students. This served
their purpose for a while and for two years students were able to communicate and
share ideas within their school community. Soon it expanded to include other colleges
in the Northeast and California. Zuckerberg had strong leadership skills and being a
Harvard educated student prepared him to be successful in business. He was well
known on campus and was quite an influential student leader. He decided that just

Social Class And The Middle Class Essay
Social class can be defined as a social construct which is used to describe a group of
people with similar levels of wealth, influence and status. They tend to have
dramatically different values and mannerisms to others groups, for example, the
working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled workers, whereas the middle
class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt, 2016). Despite
there being other social classgroups, including, the upper class, this essay will
explore the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass
, and the middle class in reality television, using the example of Wife Swap.
The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on
British television screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular
genre of reality television features them heavily (Morley, 2009). Debates have
sparked on whether the use of ordinary people on such programmes is
democratising or exploitative. It could be argued that because the working class
were not on such programmes, audiences and society therefore had no access to
them and their lifestyles. However, the great exposure of working classes on reality
television programmes now provides access to them and allows people to observe
and judge how they behave and how they live.
It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities
are portrayed in negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014),

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a
punishment. (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits
and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over.
However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of
criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the
government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against
the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is
barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this
would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s
world because there is access to DNAtests and profiling. According to
www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information
all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance
of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play
important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to
place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to
prove a suspect s innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the
death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove
the suspect s innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for
prosecution.
The Character Of Joe Sixsmith
Joe Sixsmith is the lead protagonist of the Joe Sixsmith series of detective mystery
novels by English crime author Reginald Charles Hill. Hill was born to professional
footballer Reg Hill during the age when people played football not for the money but
for the love of the game. He got his love of books from his mother who was a great
lover of Golden Age crime writers whose books she had stocked in her home
library. He went to the Carlisle Grammar School and was one of the best students
in English which probably informed his choice of university degree. Reginald went
to the National service or two years before he went to study English at Oxford
University s St Catherine s College. For several years he worked as a teacher and

Another lady believes that someone is out to get her because she is a witch and

connections between the three cases though at first glance Joe cannot see how they
could be related. However, the lives of several people may be in danger if
Characterisation Of The Father And Son In Cormac...
4. Discuss how one novel you have studied constructs complex characters to represent
complex ideas.
The use of characterisation in a text can be used to represent complex ideas. Cormac
McCarthy s 2006 novel, The Road, follows the journey of a man and son that face
several events that challenge their humanity in order to survive the post apocalyptic
America. By studying the characterisation of the father and son in The Road, it is
revealed that complex ideas are represented. Readers may find that the existentialist
ideas of death and violence being unavoidable, love able to be shown through actions,
every decision having both rewards and repercussions and when humans are put in
extreme or difficult situations, core values and beliefs may be abandoned, are
promoted through the actions and thoughts of the characters. These ideas are
developed especially through the four main events in the novel through the use of
dark imagery and descriptive language.
Death and violence are unavoidable and we must find purpose in life with the
acceptance of this fact. Throughout the novel, the father and son are forced to react to
several events where this idea is evident and promoted. Although the father is
characterised as logical and morally conflicted, he prioritises the boy s safety. This is
revealed through some of the main events that occur in the novel, such as when the
duo encounter a man struck by lightning and on the verge of death. Despite his son s
pleas to help the man, the

Trade Routes In Ancient China
Throughout ancient China and Japan, many people would assume that monsoon Asia
was isolated with no connections with Europe. However, even though China and
Japan are known for their own independent and distinct culture from being isolated
from foreign countries, trade routes spread the Chinese and Japanese cultures with
European countries and the Roman Empire through the Silk Road and coastal sea
ports. Some of the effects of trade with Europe can be seen in some modern day
instances in Japan and England. Therefore, monsoon Asia was an isolated region in
respect to Asian culture, but was still connected to outside countries through
commerce. The isolation of ancient Chinawas in part because of their geography, but
it allowed the Chinese to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they were more influenced by China and Japan than they had
anticipated. England s tea culture started from Chinese tea ceremonies and became
a part of everyday life to modern times. The Romans relied heavily on silk for
clothing and were willing to pay hefty prices for it, fueling China s economy in gold
and silver. The European advance in China was not particularly successful but
remnants of Catholicism can still be seen in modern day Japan. As a result, even
though Europe and the Roman Empire had traded goods and services through the
Silk Road, China and Japan managed to preserve their culture and isolate themselves

Telling you this presents a problem. You re the touchy feely one. How am I going

Dangerous News Bias
During the recent 2016 presidential election, candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary
Clinton could be seen glorified on the television screens of an MSNBC segment. On
the other hand, viewing Fox News reveals a very noticeable conservative bias,
favoring ideology from candidates like Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and John Kasich.
CNN, thought to be the most neutral of the three, is only considered unbiased
because it always has at least one conservative and one liberal pundits reporting on
an issue (Garcia). News media rarely provides information unbiasedly, there seems to
be some sort of political leaning to almost every news report. Although biased news
allows for more perspectives and grants more information to the audience, the extent
to which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in watching biased news has lead to another negative effect: many
viewers opinions become much more polarized. MSNBC, whose own outlook on
politics are typically more liberal, project news in the context of their views. Since
the media allows for easy access to this news, their audience, with the same
outlook, are thus not forced to challenge their way of thinking (Friedman).
Someone who watches the news can choose, and typically does, watch news that is
similar to what they believe. So even if someone argues, again, that they can just
switch channels to other news outlets, that project objective views, they go unsee.
This leads to very opposite political views that just become more polarized with
more viewers, with the same ideology, watching. The audience then only watch
their side of politics and people become defensive over which side is right and which
side is wrong in terms of legislation and candidates for presidential or congressional
The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange
A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three
primary economic functions.
First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to
negotiate the exchange of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter
system s wastefulness like the dependence on the occurrence of a coincidence of
wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing power in order for
it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable, recognizable,
have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high
market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to
counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it
was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold
user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant value due to its
special physical and chemical properties.
The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services market value is simply
known as unit of account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In
order for money to function as a unit of account, it must be divisible into smaller
units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific weight, measure or size in
order to be verifiable countable.
Lastly, money must be able to be reliably stored, saved and retrieved in order for it to
function as a store of value. Likewise, it must be usable as a medium of

Three Coins In The Fountain Research
Hundreds of years ago, clean water was valued very much as it was rare and
sacred, unlike our current generation where clean water can be easily accessed in
most parts of the world. In the past, clean water was considered a gift from the
gods by many tribes across the world in areas such as Europe, Africa, and Asia. As
a matter of fact, countless people believed that deities themselves lived in the water.
Back then, presenting gifts to deities were ancient practices generally done to
appease an angry god or as payment for requests and prayer to the god. As a result,
whenever watering holes were discovered, people threw money into the water in
order to show gratitude for the clean water as well as to ensure the continuance of the
precious water. And that, my fellow classmates, is how the superstition of tossing
coins into fountains and wells had begun. Most people around the world today no
longer worry or think twice about lacking clean water. But despite that, the tradition
of throwing coins into wells and fountains still exist. This is because the purpose of
throwing coins into wells and fountains have changed. Even though the superstition
simply started out to thank the deities for the gift of drinkable water, that was not...

Better The Upper Class
Currently politics have always focused on how to better the upper class instead of
the lower class. The upper class is the property owning class, those who live from
earnings made from the ownership, control, and exploitation of property such as
land, capital, large businesses, or share holdings. According to the Boundless,
Wealthy, well educated Americans are more likely to vote and to donate money to
politicians than lower class individuals (www.boundlesssociology.com). In other
words, rich people are more likely to vote rather than poor people. Wealthy people
would vote for a politician that has to do more with bettering him or herself, which is
usually the Republican Party. The Democratic Party usually makes it seem as they

The parties focus on current groups of people to get what they want. For instance,
Republicans go to religious people and talk about abortion. It is seen as ending the
life of a child before it is even born. Abortions have a big impact throughout the
United States for women. Every type of ethnicity is involved. When it comes to
religion they are against it. Abortion is an issue upon the lower class. A lot of
young women happen to get pregnant at a young age, and then decide that they don
t want the child. According to on the issues, Donald Trump believes abortion should
be banned at some point in pregnancy, with exceptions for rape, incest or life of the
mother (www.ontheissues.org). In other words, abortions should be banned and only
allowed if they got pregnant because of being raped, has to do with something
incest, or the mother can die because of the birth. Their behavior towards this act is
wrong. Abortions should be decided upon the person giving birth. It should be
allowed in every state as Planned Parenthood.
Politics have always focused on how to better the upper class instead of the lower
class. There are many black and white people now in the United States with the
same equal rights. In the 1940 s white people didn t acknowledge the Negros.
Knowing that the population of the states out numbered them. Their goal was to
allow black people to vote only if they voted for Republicans. They

In the absence of a central government, Somalia s residents reverted to local forms of

differences as well such as there presidencies and there voting policies. They both
treated there civilians very different than each other. Letting one gender get more

differences and similarities.
With all the differences and similarities, here is a difference. Rome and the US haves

In the Roman Government they have two presidents while the US has one. Two

on the militaries problems. With Donald Trump being the president, it may be a

military issues. Maybe the US is almost the same as the Roman Empire.
One major similarity between the US and Rome is there downfall. They had

The Gender Wage Gap In Film And Television

Gender Wage Gap in Film and Television
The gender wage gap and glass escalator are worldwide problems that permeate
through a multitude of occupations, and no industry perpetuates these more blatantly
than film and television. The gender wage gap is the continual disparity between the
average salary of a male worker and the average salary of a female worker with the
same or similar jobs or ranking of job. The glass escalator refers to the idea that
women and minorities progress up the hierarchical ladder in their job fields slower
than men do. In the film and television industry, the gender wage gap and glass
escalator can be seen most prominently between actors and actresses in both leading
and supporting roles; however, this gap can also be seen between male and female
directors. It is also not limited to just one country or continent, spanning across both
North America and Europe. Actresses and female directors across the globe deserve
to be compensated as much as the actors and male directors they work with because it
benefits the industry financially and creatively.
Across many American industries, the gender wage gap has been proven to be a
major financial issue. There is no clear and concrete reason for its existence, but
researchers have found that lowered perceived competence and commitment to the
job, lack of negotiation, and general employer sexism all contribute to the
prolongation of the
Clearing
PERFORMANCE OF CLEARING FUNCTION
MEANING OF CLEARING:
The word clearing has been derived from the word clear and is defined as:
CLEARING HOUSE:
Initially state bank of Pakistan provides the facility of clearing in its clearing house
where representatives of all banks sit together and interchange their claims against
each other. But now state bank of Pakistan has assigned this responsibility to National
Institute of Facilitation Technologies (NIFT).
It is one of the services provided by NIFT to other commercial banks. NIFT acts as a
clearinghouse. Different banks are the members of the clearinghouse. A
representative of each bank represents his bank in the clearinghouse.
Each bank has collected cheques as behalf of their customer but ... Show more content

As of May 2009, 40 commercial banks and their 5571 branches in 185 major cities,
20 data centers utilize NIFT s services.
NIFT has setup elaborate data centers geared to provide automated services for
document processing particularly in the payment arena. Modern image based
facilities have been established at Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi,
Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad, Quetta, D.I.Khan, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sukkur,
Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, Jhelum, Abottabad, Mirpur, Sahiwal and Sargodha. The
services include cheques clearing, reconciliation, return (unpaid) cheques processing,
same day clearing (express 2 hrs. clearing service), intercity clearing and inter
branch inter bank settlement. Services are provided at individual branch level to
over 5571 branches in 184 major cities and smaller cities.
VI. SEND REPORT TO THE BANK:
After delivering the cheques to different banks NIFT send report to Habib Bank
Limited Mall branch Lahore, then the bank s staff tally the amount of that report for
its own record.
VII. DELIVERED CHEQUES TO RESPECTIVE BANKS:
Next morning, these cheques are delivered to the respective banks between 9:00 to
9:30AM. In the same manner, other banks present their clearing drawn on Habib
Bank. Total number of cheques and their amount delivered to other banks and
received from them are written on the Clearing House schedule branch for their
payment. After proper scrutiny of cheques,
Velma Gratch And The Way Cool Butterfly Analysis
This text analysis is based off the book Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly
by Alan Madison. The Lexile level of this book is AD750L, the reasoning behind
this rating is due to all the vocabulary placed throughout the book. In our study of
Beck from last semester, we explored the idea of tiered vocabulary. This book is
filled with tier three vocabulary including specific types of butterflies and the
different parts of a butterfly. These are terms that cannot be brought into a variety of
subjects and that are unlikely to be known previously by students. In addition,
there are also high level vocabulary words, that make the Lexile level go up as they
are only used once throughout the book. In Readability and the Common Core s
Staircase of Text Complexity by Elfrieda H. Hiebert, it mentions that as vocabulary
words are used more frequently the Lexile level decreases as these words become
more common. In this book, words such as miraculous , spectacular , muddled ,
coincidence , conservation , slathered , gurgled , and migration are all used either
once or just a few times. Which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book is a literal text, with some inferential ideas. Students would need to make
inferences about Velma and her decisions. Such as the reason that Velma does some
of the things she does, is so she is remembered as more than just the third Gratch
sister. In addition to having students make inferences, this book allows students to
activate their background knowledge and make predictions. Through the sibling
rivalry and idea of science students need to use what they already know to make the
inferences. With the text being predictable and the story having a fairly common
story, students should be able to pause and make their own predict what may happen

How Does Meth Affect The Economy
The meth epidemic of the United States has been invasive and problematic from the
time it was introduced from the early 1900 s until now. Though introduced through
pharmaceutical companies for treatment from depression to colds, the drug has
become one of America s most addictive, abusive, and destructive drugs. The
economy and the role of the government, as well as pharmaceutical companies, play
the main role in how meth was introduced and the reason it is still abused today. The
novel, by Nick Reding, titled Methland follows the effects of meth on a small town,
but it also gives us insight in to how these three factors play a major role in the
making, use, abuse, and distributing of this drug. This paper will follow the timeline
of methamphetamineand what was going on in the economy as well as government
action. Methland is based in a town called Oelwein. The town was created as a hub
city, due to the railroad lines that came in through its main streets. It also had many
farms and ranches that created sustenance for the community and gave it resiliency.
The contents of this book look in to various lives in Oelwein, and how they were
affected by meth use. This meth use directly correlates with the decline of the
economy in the story, as well as the movement of big companies and government
regulations or better put, failed regulations. The story of Oelwein is a good model as
to what happened in most agricultural based towns across the United States. Nick
Romeo And Juliet Fate And Personal Decisions
Fate and personal decisions are often mixed up because both come to a person
naturally without thought about how their future outcome might be like. In the
play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare fate and personal decisions comes
between the two lovers. All though many claim that the death of Romeo and Juliet
was fate it was the personal choices the two lovers made because both decided to
stay together knowing their families did not get along together well at all and
picked to kill themselves over dealing with their problems. Between fate and
personal decisions it can have a big affect on a person s life. Personal decisions
have a big affect on people when it comes to doing the right thing or not. Romeo s

Persuasive Essay On Women Pay
If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes,
why don t business hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So,
hiring only women would reduce costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to
the bottom line. Don t business want to be profitable. Or, are they just really bad at
math? Well, actually,it s the feminists, celebrities and politicians spreading this wage
gap myth who have the math problem. Here s why. The 77 cents on the dollar
statistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full
time by the median earnings of all men working full time. In other words, if the
average income of all men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is
say 30,800 dollars, that would mean that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a
man earns . These calculations do not reveal a genderwage injustice because it doesn
t take it into account occupation, position, education or hours worked per week.
Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist
organization, shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you
factor in differents choices men and women take. And the key word here is choice
. The small wage gap that does exist has nothing to do with paying women less, let
alone with sexism ; it has to do with differences in career choices that men and
women make. In 2009, the US Department of Labor released a paper that examined
more than 50 percent reviewed

The Era Of The American Civil War
After the American Civil War, a laissez faire government allowed for a new class of
businessmen to rise to power: those who dominated an entire industry, sometimes
several markets. They were the hallmark of the so called Gilded Age, which lasted
from the end of reconstruction until the early 1900s. These men, known as Robber
Barons, shaped the American economy, necessitating new laws to be signed to limit
their power . Although there were only four main Barons (John D. Rockefeller,
Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan), they controlled much of
the economy with their four respective trades: Oil, steel, railroads, and banking .
Although all four were important, Rockefeller and Carnegie stand head and
shoulders above the rest, becoming among the richest and most successful people
the world has ever seen with the exception of some royalty. During the Civil War,
both the Union and Confederacy converted to Total War economies. With all
industries, from manufacturing to agriculture to textiles, focused on the war effort,
many relatively new industries grew surpassingly large. Railroads in the North
grew by around 16,000 miles, an increase of nearly 75%. However, relatively small
companies controlled relatively small sections of track privately. This set the stage
for Vanderbilt to begin buying up companies until he controlled one of the largest
railroad networks ever seen. The latter parts of the Civil War and the early
reconstruction saw the rise of a new

The Frontispice And Incipit Of The Gelasian Sacrament
The Frontispice and Incipit of the Gelasian Sacrament, is the art from the first two
pages of the Gelasian Sacrament. While it is impossible to know for certain, since
this piece was neither signed nor dated, it is widely accepted that this piece was
created by nuns in the nunnery at Chelles. The nunnery at Chelles is famous for
having cultivated the art of writing. 1 The story of the journey of this codex is
unknown. From the nunnery in France, this codex spent time in the library of Queen

known is this codex was made for priest not bishops and was used in Roman churches
in the seventh century. 2 Also, it has not, however, reached us in its original form, but
with modifications and additions made by generation after generation. 3
The two pages are strikingly similar. They both use the same color scheme of red
outlines, with red, blue, green and yellow decorations. The figures used on both
pages are similar, crosses, birds, horses, fish, and felines. Also, the stylistic choice of
putting figures inside circles was reoccurring. In the Frontispice, the image on the
left, there is a decorative arch encasing a cross. It appears that the artist attempted to
make the image symmetrical, with the line of symmetry running vertically down the
middle of the page. There is only one definite difference between the
Essay On Mold Fossils
Mold fossils come from a process called authigenic preservation; a process which
leaves a negative impression, or indent, of an organism in rock after the organism
itself has deteriorated. Sand or mud covers the deceased organism and, over time,
that sand or mud hardens into rock, encasing the organism. The organism continues
to decay, eventually leaving only an imprint. Entire organisms, partial organisms, or
even traces of the passing of organisms can leave mold fossils. Cast fossils occur
when mold fossils are filled in with minerals that harden over time, creating a
fossilized replica of the original organism. Water seeps through the rock surrounding
the mold fossil, leaving behind minerals which fill the mold. The minerals harden,

Plant fossils and trilobites are often found as casts and molds. Most molds and casts
do not contain the actual remains of an organism. Shells, bone, and wood often form
as molds or casts. Dinosaur footprints can also be classified as mold fossils. Shells
can make an imprint in sand, and under certain conditions such an imprint might be
preserved and then filled in. Trace fossils can form if two conditions are met. First,
the activity has to take place in a material that will hold its form (like mud or clay).
Second, the evidence of the activity has to be well preserved (often by being buried
quickly). Common activities that are captured in time as these conditions are met
include walking and running (footprint fossils), burrowing (organisms homes can
be frozen in time through petrification), and defecating. The animals speed, length
of stride, and whether they walked on two or four legs. The bones structure of the

have been found, so tails were probably held above the ground). Speed, the length of

Abstract
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning are the processes that help
organizations to prepare for the disruptive events that may occur. Disaster recovery
events in the past were designed to provide backup options for centralized data
centers. Today the disaster recovery plans are focused on integrated business
continuity.
The plan for Disaster recovery audit, maintenance and continuous improvement
should include the establishment of the process for keeping disaster recovery plans
and associated activities updated, auditing and reviewing the plans to ensure that they
remain fit for the purpose and consistent with the applicable standards and
management controls and establishing a process for the continuous improvement of
the disaster recovery program.
The report will focus on the importance of Disaster recovery and Business Continuity
Planning in Today s fast changing and Technology driven business environment audit
of the DR/BCP plans.

Disadvantages Of Empowered Deliberative Democracy
n their research, Fung and Wright (2001) review the reform efforts known as
Empowered Deliberative Democracy (abbreviated as EDD). They state that EDD
actually promotes the idea of radical democracy and deliberation, thus inviting the
citizens to take real action, take part in politics, and to enter into a meaningful
dialogue with the governmentto make the decision making process as transparent and
efficient as possible. Hence, when reflecting on the advantages of such approach to
practicing democracy, the researchers intend to indicate that the EDD model can be
also helpful in deepening democracy due to a number reasons (above all due to its
ability to connect action to discussion (Fung et al, 2001, p. 7).
Moreover, according to the experts, as one of the most progressive organizational
reforms, EDD ensures the better understanding of democratic practices and their
importance (Fung et al, 2001, p. 7). From this, it follows that applying the
principles of EDD is another measure which could help to reinforce democracy in
the context of the present day world. Faguet, Fox, and Pöschl (2015) also make an
attempt to shed some light on the ways that could help to deepen democracy. By and
large, they argue that despite the long standing criticism of the decentralization
policies, it has a fair chance of enhancing democratic positions by making the
political regime more flexible (or supple ) (Faguet et al., 2015, p. 61). When
reviewing the strengths of such
Four Social Psychological Principles Of Clown Sighting
In recent years, clown sightings have become quite common to see in news and
social media. It is a phenomenon in which a group of people dressing up as evil
clowns in incongruous settings near church, at parking lots and forests. While the
majority of incidents are reported as pranks with no evidence of criminal activity,
some incidents led to arrest as they involved assaults to individuals, threats to school
and even robberies. This phenomenon of clownsightings is constantly occurring in the
world around me globally and could be explained by four social psychological
principles: group, deindividuation, groupthink and group polarization.
Before understanding the social psychological principles applied to clown sightings,
we need to know what group means as clown sightings usually happen in groups. A
group is three or more people who interact and are independent in the sense that
their needs and goals cause them to influence each other. In the clown sighting
situation, people usually do it in a group with three or more people and they
interact with each other with a goal to dress up as clown either for fun to prank
people or actually doing act that is aggressive and threatening to others, like robbery,
to achieve their goal of getting other people s money for instance.
Deindividuation is the most important principles to explain clown sightings.
Deindividuation means people often abandon normal restraint when in groups. This
is because in group they lose sense of

training which involved reading, presentations by respective staff and quizzes. I
am now HIPPA Certified! I also attended other scientist specific sessions and got to
know the people who were hired in the month of January. Overall, this day was
devoted to documentation. Journal 2 The second session of this internship
introduced me to the concept of stock valuation. Here I was assigned my first
project to verify, amend and update records concerning stock options. I was also
taught the concept behind stock reevaluation and its advantages before a company
decides to go public. I was also introduced to methods and formulas used to track
stock vesting periods. Journal 3 On the third visit, I had a briefing on the P/L
project which involved restructuring the accounts to better project profitability.
This reminded me of ABC as we were essentially reclassifying everything to
identify cost drivers. Here I had an opportunity to work with one of the project
managers. We worked on developing database elements and piloting them in excel.
The most I got from this experience was the insight into the services provided by
PGDX. I also got to be introduced to names of reagents sequencing activities which
ultimately allowed me to grasp the fundamental process associated with the services
provided by PGDX. Additionally, I am now aware
Albert Bandura vs Raymond Cattell
Cattell was born in a small town in England. After seeing the deaths, and suffering
of the people and soldiers in World War I, Cattell began to have a huge curiosity in
trying to fix the problems people have in their lives by using science. Cattell was
very big on personality, his definition of Personality is that which permits a
prediction of what a person will do in a given situation (Cattell). Cattells definition
of personality is very different from other theorist. Freud is a great example; Freud s
theory was that personality had three different types the id, the ego, and the super
ego. A person that has a strong personality can handle whatever happens to them and
no matter how tough the challenge is for them because they are so... Show more

Theses models provide examples of behavior, for the children to observe and
imitate. Children tend to pay attention to most of the models. At a later time in the
child s life they may imitate the behavior that they are surrounded by. This can be
related to nurture. Nurture means the things that us, as humans see in our
environment not something we are born with that comes natural to us. Nature on
the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree with the
study Bandura conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with,
but I feel like the things that tend to happen around us are really what influence us
and make us the way we are. I for one know that there are many things that I learned
just from being observation and watching adults and people that are older then me
like my brother, I watched him do just about everything and everything he did I
wanted to copy and that s why I feel that we as humans tend to be the people we are
by the way we observe things. The movie Kumare is about a fake guru, whose

Kumare is the person that Vikram plays to try and show his followers what they

that something is true and is something that you can relate to it no matter if the
religious teachings are not true if you as a person believe that it is true, then it is
Becoming A Successful After Secondary Education
It is a dream for most parents to have the opportunity to watch their children full time
without having to worry about working full time, just to pay off their student debt. In
the United states, out of all of the mothers, only 29 percent of mothers are full time
stay at home mothers (D Vera Cohn, Gretchen Livingston, Wang). Cohn, Livingston
and Wang study demographic and ethnic trends for a living (Cohn, Livingston,
Wendy Wang). Sadly, in contrast to the 29 percent of stay at home mother, my
friend Holly Haney, works countless hours every day and has to pay a large sum of
her check to student debt. I wish I would have been more educated on student loans.
Even though it was the cool thing to do back then, it certainly isn t anymore (Holly
Haney). Like Holly, I am also learning that in order for me to become successful
after secondary education, I need to be more educated on the dangers of having
student debt , so that my future wife will be part of the 29 percent of full time stay at
home mothers. By looking over the previous years, even though much has been said
about student debt, very little attention has been paid on the causes and effects of
having student debt. There are many important things to know about student debt,
such as what types of loans are available for students and the advantages and
disadvantages of some student loans. I will show what students have done to get
them in financial trouble and some possible solutions that our country can take to
Silent Hill, Directed By Christophe Gans
As Stephen King once said Our emotions and our fears form their own body, and
we recognize that it demands it s own exercise to maintain proper muscle tone...But
anticivilization emotions don t go away, and they demand periodic exercise. In the
film Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, a nine year old girl named Alessa is
forced to live a life of torment. Alessa s fear and pain never left but instead grew.
Alessa as a result allowed her darkest emotions to split from her physical body
creating a doppelgänger of herself; Dark Alessa. The darkest side of her own soul
promised to make everyone who ever hurt her fall into her darkest dreams. A
systematic exposure to hatred and maltreatment led Alessa to give up her
innocence and invest herself fully to seeking revenge. As a baby Alessa was born

of a wedlock (parents who were not married at the time of the child s birth)
relationship. Alessa grew up alone in the world; at school her classmates picked
on her, the townspeople hated her, and even family rejected her as being apart of
the family. In the film Alessa s classmates are seen picking on her. Not being able
to fight back or defend herself she runs to the girls bathroom to find sanctuary.
Believing that she is now safe behind the locked door she quickly realizes that she
isn t alone. She notices that the janitor named Colin was also present. Before the

What Criteria Could You Differentiate Among Multiple...
Questions
1. How would you differentiate among multiple discriminant analysis, regression
analysis, logistic regression analysis, and analysis of variance?
The main difference is in the number of independent and dependent variables and the
way in which these variables are measured. Note the following definitions:
In Multiple discriminant analysis (MDA), the predictor or independent variables are
metric and the single criterion or dependent variable is non metric . In Regression
Analysis , both the multiple independent variables and the single dependent variable
are metric. In Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) , the single independent variable is non
metric and the multiple dependent variables are metric.
2. What criteria could you use in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result is an upward bias in statistical significance that must be identified during
the analysis and interpretation.
4. How would you determine the optimum cutting score?
For equal group sizes, the optimum cutting score is defined by ZA + ZB
ZCE =
N
ZCE is the critical cutting score value for equal size groups, ZA is the centroid for
group A and ZB is the centroid for Group B and N is the total sample size.
For unequal group sizes, the optimum cutting score is defined by NAZA + NBZB
ZCU =
NA + NB
ZCU = is the critical cutting score value for unequal size groups, NA is the sample
size for group A and NB is the sample size for Group B
5. How would you determine whether the classification accuracy of the discriminant
function is sufficiently high relative to chance classification?
There has to be some chance criterion that should be established. This is generally a
fairly straight forward function of the classifications that is used in the model and of
the sample size. The authors then suggest the criterion that the classification accuracy
or the hit ratio must be at least twenty five percent greater than by chance. Other test
can be to use a test of proportions to examine for the significance between the
obtained hit ratio proportion and the chance criterion proportion .
6. How does a two group discriminant analysis differ from a three group
Science vs. Nature as a Means of Obtaining Perfection in...
Although we may mask our insecurities with false confidence and bravado, deep
down most people crave perfection. As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea
of perfection is unobtainable. The older we get, the more we tend to accept the
flaws and imperfections that make us individuals. However, there are others who
never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend ridiculous amounts of
money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these
marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between
science and nature. On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on
the other there s the scientific shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the
original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe that this is perhaps a topic
Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided distaste
for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark.
Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He

The Day Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
She was just an average 18 year old girl, when she thought her life was over. It all
had happened three months ago. It was just another sunny fall day, in the Malibu,
California. She had gone through four years of high school just to get to this point.
She thought it would one of the best days of her life, until it all fell apart. Finally
after three months she thought it was all over. Then Becky Newman realized she
was in for a very long ride, that would change everything.
Three months ago It was time to leave. She was ecstatic she had been waiting for so
long and today was the day. Today is the day Becky Newman leaves for college. She
had decided to stay close to home in Malibu, and chose to attend University of

Fabio? Is that you? Becky exclaimed.
Oh my gosh Becky, you look so different. Fabio said surprised. When Becky had first
moved into her house in Malibu, she met Fabio he was her best friend. A year later
he moved away, but both of their dreams were to go to usc for college.
Oh my bad, this is Jessica she is my roommate. Becky said pointing to Jessica.
Nice to meet you. Jessica said
You too, Fabio replied.
So Jessica, Becky, and Fabio ended up spending the rest of the day together. They
had dinner and then realized it was getting late, so Fabio went back to his dorm and
Jessica and Becky went back to theirs. As Becky was in the verge of sleep, her phone
started ringing. It was an unknown number so she ignored it at first. The same
number then called back immediately. This time she answered.
Hello? Becky said groggily.
Hello, is this Becky Newman? An emotionless voice said.
Yes this is she, may I ask who is calling. Becky asked confused as to why someone
would be calling at 1:45 am.
I m so sorry I have to be the one to tell you, but your parents are in the hospital, and
I am simply their nurse. The lady explained. Becky sat there paralyzed, not knowing
what to do.
W what happened to them? Becky cried to the lady.
They took walk tonight, and someone shot them, they are both in comas.
I I will be there as soon as I can, thank you for the call. Becky stuttered.
Becky quickly gathered the stuff she
On How My Travel Experiences Changed My Views of Life
I thought I would discuss my travel experiences and how it has changed my views
of life. I have been to the Caribbean many times, for example, Cuba, Mexico, The
Dominican Republic, St. Maarten to name a few. I have also backpacked through
Thailand and would like to discuss what I have learned from a few of these countries
and how these experiences have affected my perspective.
Travelling to Cuba for the first time was amazing. Having only travelled to Mexico
once before my first trip to Cuba I noticed a contrast in cultures even though my
assumption was they would be similar because they are both Spanish speaking. My
first trip to Varadero was over 12 years ago. I was informed that the locals valued
tips of crayons, toothbrushes, razors, and toiletries, but I was unsure why. I later
realized it was because of the embargos, they had no, or very limited access to,
these items and many more. I remember going into Havana and while taking in the
breathtaking sights, being followed by many locals who were rubbing their arms. I
had no idea what was going on and was later informed that they were asking for
soap. SOAP! I thought to myself, not money or food, but soap? Something I had
taken for granted my whole life. In my many discussions with the locals I learned
they were very educated, most of whom were doctors and environmental or
corporate lawyers. Education is free in Cuba and homes are also provided for free,
therefore, many Cubans go to University for many
Corporate Social Responsibility and Stakeholder Capital
Corporate Social Responsibility and Emergent Models in Management of Stakeholder
Capital in Philippine Conglomerates

Abstract
The paper adopts a social benefit cost analysis framework to look at three stages in
the historical development of management of stakeholder capital of corporations in
the Philippines. The first two stages were government driven. Stage One is
internalization and moderation of some social costs starting with the Environmental
Impact Statement System adopted by the Philippine government under President
Marcos in 1981. Stage Two consists of reforms in the political economy started in...

In end 2008, the contribution was down to 75.4%. Because of the global financial
crisis, as of April 5, 2009, this figure was down to 70.9%. The nearly 10% drop is
largely due to loss of stakeholder capital, i.e. business confidence and trust. Source:

A Closer Look At Enterprise Rent A Car Essay
Defining the Industry In this industry analysis, we will be taking a closer look at
Enterprise Rent A Car, which operates in the car rental industry. This industry
consists of firms who rent automobiles to consumers for a short period of time.
This company is a part of the larger corporation called Enterprise Holdings Inc. and
is considered to be their flagship brand (enterpriseholdings.com). According to
Enterprise Holdings, Enterprise Rent A Car is the largest car rental firm in the U.S.
and has over 5,800 offices located near ninety percent of the population. While some
people think that the firm only deals with car rentals, Enterprise has multiple
extensions of its business including Enterprise CarShare, Enterprise Car Sales,
Enterprise Truck Rental, Enterprise Rideshare, and Zimride by Enterprise. The
majority of Rent A Car s business, however, involves neighborhood and airport car
rental services. The firm s customer base includes air travelers who are looking to
secure ground transportation upon arriving at their destination as well as people
looking to rent a car from a neighborhood location. Assistant Vice President of
Government and Public Affairs for the company states that roughly $12 Billion is
earned from the airport market and $12B is earned from the neighborhood market

Chief Seattle Speech Summary
Two great chiefs, Tecumseh and Seattle, attempted to address the U.S. government
s negligence against the Native American tribes, who preceded the very men who
ignore their needs. Chief Seattle delivers a speech to President Pierce in 1855, and
in it contrasts nature and artificial cities. There is no quiet place in man s cities, no
place to hear the leaves of spring or the rustle of insect wings. But perhaps because
I am a savage and do not understand, the clatter only seems to insult the ears.
(Seattle). He uses imagery to describe the delicacy of nature to the crude
artificialness of man s cities , and provide a greater understanding of how their
lives differ. Chief Seattle knows that the President, just like all other white me, has
preconceptions about Native Americans. He most likely believes them to be too
simplistic for white society, and even more so fears them. He already knows that
white men perceive them as savages and acknowledges this in his speech in a
repetitive manner saying, but we are just savages and do not understand (Seattle)
three times. Chief Seattle despite knowing all of this, still attempts to get the white
people to understand, because he doesn t want the two peoples, white and red, to live
in fear of the other. He wants them to change their ways, and stop destroying the
Earth. He want s both the Tribes and the white men to become co inhabitants and stop
fighting for the sake of land. He is aiming for mutual respect and understanding, if not
African American Male Enters The Criminal Judicial
System,...
As reported by the U.S. Justice Department, there has been significant increase in
incarcerated African American males, in comparison to Hispanic and White males. It
is believed that social interaction, area of residency, and social networks have major
influence on the increasing crime and incarceration rates of African Americanmales.
A larger portion of White males hold more positions within the U.S. Judicial
system than African American males who make up a larger population of prison
inmates and less involvement in legislation. This coincides with data suggesting
that African American s have lower percentages of receiving or obtaining higher
education, placing them in areas of low income and less opportunities. Social
inequality in the judicial system is questioned as well as demographics and
economics will be researched in order to provide in depth analysis of these national
percentages of African Americans. Additional research is conducted to investigate
circumstances once an African American male enters the criminal judicial system,
and a generational cycle of crime. There is more knowledge and potential
opportunities within the prison system versus the lack of resources these prisoners
would feel they would have upon their release. The Judicial system appears to be
White male dominated due to factors regarding higher education, as well as
opportunities or resources to pursue careers of higher statuses. The percentage of
black adults who obtained a bachelor s degree
How Did Great Britain Improve The Economy After Ww2
World War II has become renown as the war that truly changed the world. As one
of the most deadly wars in recorded history with over 50 million recorded deaths.
Great Britain made up one of 30 countries involved in the war against extreme
hatred and genocide (World War II). As a main player in the war, Great Britain faced
devastation after the war. The Prime Ministers and politicians taking office in the half
century following the war worked hard to restore once once so noble and powerful
country. Politics after World War II were centered on fixing the economy through
reforms and industrial revolutions, settling foreign affairs and repairing the country to
the state it had previously housed before the war. A substantial effort of the

In 1964, Harold Wilson began his term promising optimism and results. Wilson
worked to demolish Great Britain s debt to the best of his ability. He threw himself
into his ideas of creating a New Great Britain which helped ignite a large second
industrial revolution (Prime Ministers and Political Timeline). Heath, a conservative
elected in 1970, devoted himself to settling political and social uprisings in the
public. In 1979, Margaret Thatcher, Great Britain s first female Prime Minister, took
office. Thatcher believed that the government had recently become too involved in
the citizens lives, and she worked to create policies to enable Britons the ability to
control most political aspects themselves. Thatcher s major focus became
privatization of housing and public transportation. Although she took office in the
midst of a recession, she handled the problems that came with the difficult
circumstances. Thatcher modernized the industry by taking out older unions. She
also made a risky, yet needed, decision to increase interest rates. The increase
resulted in more control over inflation, and kept the economy from dropping (
Margaret Thatcher ). Through the thoughtful and dedicated decision making
processes of a few of Great Britain s late Prime Ministers, Great Britain started on a
bold path on its way towards
Mere Christianity Sparknotes
Mere Christianity Summary Mere Christianity was written by C.S. Lewis (Clive
Staples Lewis). C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland on November 29, 1898. He
was arguably one of the intellectual giants and influential writers of the twentieth
century. Until nineteen fifty four he was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at
Oxford University. After that he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval
and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his
retirement. Clive wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach vast audiences,
and his books still attract readers more every year.
C.S. Lewis mother Florence Augusta passed away in August 23, 1908. In April
1918 Clive meets his lifelong friend Arthur Greeves. In September 24, 1929 Cliver
s father, Albert Lewis, died in Belfast. On October 11, 1920 Lewis, the Moores, and
later Warren, Lewis s brother, move into The Kilns . Cliver converts to Christianityin
September 1931. Cliver attended the first meeting of Oxford University s Socratic
Club on January 26, 1942. On April 23, 1956 he married Joy Davidman Gresham.
Joy is an American woman who was divorced and had a son. She married Cliver
because of his insurance. She didn t have any insurance and she was battling
cancer, so he married her to take care of her and her son. When Joy passed away
Cliver continued to take care of his step son. In June 1961 he was diagnosed with
kidney inflammation. A little later after he was diagnosed he soon passed away in
November 22, 1963. The Law or Rules about Right or Wrong used to be called the
Law of Nature. Laws of Nature are to be distinguished both from Scientific Laws
and from Natural Laws. When we talk of the laws of nature we usually mean things
like gravitation, or heredity, or the laws of chemistry. When they came up with the
Law of Right and Wrong the Law of Nature , they really meant the Law of Human
Nature.
The moral law is God s fatherly instruction, showing the rules that lead to heaven
and the evils which lead away from God. The Moral Law tells us the tune we have to
play: our instincts are merely the keys. There is nothing indulgent about the Moral

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Date of Birth : Oct 2, 1869 Date of Death : Jan 30, 1948 Place of Birth : Gujarat
Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) was born into a Hindu Modh
family in Porbandar, Gujarat, India in 1869. He was the son of Karamchand Gandhi,
the diwan (Chief Minister) of Porbandar, and Putlibai, Karamchand s fourth wife
(his previous three wives had died in childbirth), a Hindu of the Pranami Vaishnava
order. Growing up with a devout mother and surrounded by the Jain influences of
Gujarat, Gandhi learned from an early age the tenets of non injury to living beings,
vegetarianism, fasting for self purification, and mutual tolerance between members of
various creeds and sects. He was born into the vaishya, or business, caste.
In May 1883, at the age of 13, Gandhi was married through his parents arrangement
to Kasturba Makhanji (also spelled Kasturbai or known as Ba ), who was the same
age as he. They had four sons: Harilal Gandhi, born in 1888; Manilal Gandhi, born in

Conventional Drug Delivery Systems ( Ddss )
Abstract:
With the emergence of more novel and effective drug therapies, increased
importance is being placed upon the methods by which these drugs are being
delivered to the body. Different methodologies have been heavily investigated as
possible solutions , one of these methods are intelligent or Smart polymeric drug
delivery systems . Stimuli responsive and self regulating drug delivery systems have
captured the imagination of researchers, in large part because they suggest a means
to mimic the physiological homeostatic feedback mechanisms that are essential for
health. As dysregulation of homeostasis is a feature of many diseases such as
diabetes and cancer.
1.Introduction:
Conventional drug delivery systems (DDSs) are often accompanied by systemic side
effects that mainly are attributed to their nonspecific bio distribution and
uncontrollable drug release characteristics. To overcome these limitations, advanced
controlled DDSs have been developed to achieve the release of payloads at the target
sites in a spatial controlled manner.
Commercially available controlled release devices offer several advantages, e.g. they
maintain the drug within the desired therapeutic range with just a single dose, they
allow localized drug delivery which ultimately may reduce the need for follow up
care, they preserve drugs that are rapidly destroyed by the body and ultimately
improve patient compliance.

How Does Bee Population Affect Society
Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek
Thompson. In the document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns
with machines replacing factory workers, but he completely ignores the
environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I wanted to focus on an
environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve.
Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the
diminishing bee population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my
research, I have concluded that America should actually become involved and
stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct.
Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my
argument and the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives.
Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of the world s crops that help feed
multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of three can be traced back to
involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or
Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in
Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar
occurrences of smaller colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee
population. The disease causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the
queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case
Study
Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537
(N.D.N.Y. 2012). Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the
Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell
University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is
before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg,
filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son,
Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be
held negligent for Bradley s wrongful death as well as personal injuries and
conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a
freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to
his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation
showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone
thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and
Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after
26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and
2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca
exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the
Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged
hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca
and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual s
using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1)
No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major
part in the City of Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge
but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding
railings and other preventive suicide measures over aesthetics even with the prior
knowledge of past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2 N.Y. 3d 633,
636 (2004) states that a party that owns or controls the property has a duty to exercise
reasonable care under the circumstances in

mother s that could cause the seborrheic glands to be overstimulated and more oil
is produced from the baby s scalp. (mayoclinic.org) 3.Rotating a bed ridden or

Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula suffered from porphyria. Porphyria is a disease
that can cause many different things. The disease itself stems from mutations in
genes. There are two distinct types of porphyria; acute which affects the nervous
system and cutaneous which affects the skin. I believe that Vlad suffered from both
types of porphyria, which is possible and common, because he displayed symptoms
of both. A lot of his rampages could have very likely been the cause of some of the
mental changes that are seen in acute porphyria and he was also known to have
sensitivity to sunlight, similar to that seen in cutaneous porphyria.
Crossbreds
According to a study done by students from the University of Georgia College of
Veterinary Medicine, the most frequent causes of death in puppies( ages two and
younger) are trauma, congenital disease( defects that develops before birth), and
infectious causes. Older dogs, however, especially those older than ten, are more
likely to die from cancer. Crossbred dogs are prone to many diseases and disorders.
Crossbreeding is the act of breeding two different breeds of the same species(an
organism that shares characteristics.) Crossbreeding dogs can alter the puppies
genetic deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) because every dogis different. So, the offspring
could inherit a number of different traits. Therefore, crossbreeding any organism can

  • 2. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Research Paper A monster oftentimes is defined by society as physically grotesque beings who act in an unnatural manner and are often cast out or isolated; however, monstrosity extends far beyond this simplistic definition into an entire distinguished realm of paramount importance. Man s perpetual desire to grasp ahold of something unseen or unexperienced before, often stretching human limitations and moral standards no matter the consequences, defines what it truly means to be a monster. This idea of monstrosity lies not only at the heart of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein written in 1818, but also at the center of modern controversy over the expansion of scientific and technological innovation. Scholars such as Shelley question how far innovation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He speaks of this aspiration It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn; and whether it was the outward substance of things or the inner spirit of nature and the mysterious soul of man that occupied me, still my inquiries were directed to the metaphysical, or in its highest sense, the physical secrets of the world (Shelley 19). Exploring the natural world and making technological advancements consumed Victor s entire being. He spent months on end with little to no rest trying to gain knowledge that was never intended for man. His desire to figure out these secrets that he speaks of is exactly what Shelley warns the reader about. This knowledge that he seeks has been forbidden, because it can destroy

Through many months of strenuous work in the laboratory, he discovers the ability for mankind to create life, a phenomenon never before experienced by man. • 4. The Tyranny Of Tonality Analysis In the words of Jewish Austrian composer and painter Arnold Schoenberg; or SchГ¶nberg, harmony was freed from the tyranny of tonality . Schoenberg s term is interesting in its suggestion that the tonal system exerts an overpowering pressure to conform. The carefully ordered hierarchal keys; with its singularity, central focus on each movement or work, and tonal centres that made up the tonality of centuries old harmonic basis of musicbecame of less importance and had outlived its usefulness as atonality; which is a system without key that is deliberately avoided gained popularity. This music utilizes several chromatic notes with the intention of hearing no tonal centers. Later commentators spoke similarly of music being emancipated
  • 5. Autoimmune Neuromuscular Diseases Pick Your Poison... After working as a nurse, I have seen patients with many conditions but patients with autoimmune neuromuscular disorders stood out the most because the patients had to be monitored frequently. Some examples of autoimmune neuromuscular disorders are myasthenia gravis (MG), Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), Neuromyotonia, and Guillain BarrГ© syndrome (GBS) and autoimmune neuromuscular disorders are conditions that affect peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junctions or muscles. In fact, in the neuroscience field there is plethora of discussions of treatment options for many of these neurological conditions that are very complex due to high variability between patients of the same disease. Many researchers and clinicians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The major complications associated with this treatment are increased risk of stroke and other thromboembolic events, aseptic meningitis (an illness characterized by serous inflammation of the linings of the brain) and fluid overload if you had previous conditions such as liver problems, blood clots, etc. In non technical language, it simply means if a patient has had circulatory problems this treatment is not recommended for them because the doctors fear you may have a stroke or other blood related complications. Plasma exchange is a well established procedure in the treatment of autoimmune disorders. Mechanisms of action of therapeutic plasmapheresis include removal of antibodies, immune complexes, toxins or cytokines. Complications associated with plasmapheresis include hypotension, hypocalcemia and complications associated with maintenance of intravenous access. Its therapeutic role has been established in the treatment of Guillain BarrГ© syndrome (GBS), CIDP, Myasthenia Gravis and Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome. Plasmapheresis may be also considered in treatment of patients with acquired neuromyotonia, stiff man syndrome, and cryoglobulinemic polyneuropathy, but these decisions should be made on a case by case basis. Plasmapheresis is noted to not be combined with IVIG because it can create a reaction unwanted by that
  • 6. The Social Media And Communications Industry Essay In the social media and communications industry, many companies began on a small scale and progressed to improve their product by merging with a new company to create a stronger product and expand their market internationally while some businesses remained in North America and did not merge with other companies but settled for the status quo. In this paper, I will discuss two companies that chose different paths and the pros and cons of the business decisions each company made. Mark Zuckerberghad a vision to create change. He has always said that was his goal. What he created is one of the most groundbreaking forms of social networking in history. Facebook began in 2004 and eventually made Mark Zuckerberg a billionaire. What began as an idea with his friends from Harvard University, is now one of the most famous companies in the world. He wanted to change the way people communicate, so he and his friends designed an original internet platform called Facemash in 2003 which was just available to Harvard students. This served their purpose for a while and for two years students were able to communicate and share ideas within their school community. Soon it expanded to include other colleges in the Northeast and California. Zuckerberg had strong leadership skills and being a Harvard educated student prepared him to be successful in business. He was well known on campus and was quite an influential student leader. He decided that just serving university students wasn t
  • 7. Social Class And The Middle Class Essay Social class can be defined as a social construct which is used to describe a group of people with similar levels of wealth, influence and status. They tend to have dramatically different values and mannerisms to others groups, for example, the working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled workers, whereas the middle class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt, 2016). Despite there being other social classgroups, including, the upper class, this essay will explore the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass , and the middle class in reality television, using the example of Wife Swap. The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on British television screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular genre of reality television features them heavily (Morley, 2009). Debates have sparked on whether the use of ordinary people on such programmes is democratising or exploitative. It could be argued that because the working class were not on such programmes, audiences and society therefore had no access to them and their lifestyles. However, the great exposure of working classes on reality television programmes now provides access to them and allows people to observe and judge how they behave and how they live. It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities are portrayed in negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014),

  • 9. Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment. (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNAtests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect s innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence. To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution.

Hill was born to professional footballer Reg Hill during the age when people played football not for the money but for the love of the game. He got his love of books from his mother who was a great lover of Golden Age crime writers whose books she had stocked in her home library. • 11. Characterisation Of The Father And Son In Cormac... 4. Discuss how one novel you have studied constructs complex characters to represent complex ideas. The use of characterisation in a text can be used to represent complex ideas. Cormac McCarthy s 2006 novel, The Road, follows the journey of a man and son that face several events that challenge their humanity in order to survive the post apocalyptic America. By studying the characterisation of the father and son in The Road, it is revealed that complex ideas are represented. Readers may find that the existentialist ideas of death and violence being unavoidable, love able to be shown through actions, every decision having both rewards and repercussions and when humans are put in extreme or difficult situations, core values and beliefs may be abandoned, are promoted through the actions and thoughts of the characters. These ideas are developed especially through the four main events in the novel through the use of dark imagery and descriptive language. Death and violence are unavoidable and we must find purpose in life with the acceptance of this fact. Throughout the novel, the father and son are forced to react to several events where this idea is evident and promoted. Although the father is characterised as logical and morally conflicted, he prioritises the boy s safety. This is revealed through some of the main events that occur in the novel, such as when the duo encounter a man struck by lightning and on the verge of death. Despite his son s pleas to help the man, the

However, even though China and Japan are known for their own independent and distinct culture from being isolated from foreign countries, trade routes spread the Chinese and Japanese cultures with European countries and the Roman Empire through the Silk Road and coastal sea ports. Some of the effects of trade with Europe can be seen in some modern day instances in Japan and England. • 16. Dangerous News Bias During the recent 2016 presidential election, candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton could be seen glorified on the television screens of an MSNBC segment. On the other hand, viewing Fox News reveals a very noticeable conservative bias, favoring ideology from candidates like Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and John Kasich. CNN, thought to be the most neutral of the three, is only considered unbiased because it always has at least one conservative and one liberal pundits reporting on an issue (Garcia). An increase in watching biased news has lead to another negative effect: many viewers opinions become much more polarized. MSNBC, whose own outlook on politics are typically more liberal, project news in the context of their views. Since the media allows for easy access to this news, their audience, with the same outlook, are thus not forced to challenge their way of thinking (Friedman). Someone who watches the news can choose, and typically does, watch news that is similar to what they believe. So even if someone argues, again, that they can just switch channels to other news outlets, that project objective views, they go unsee. This leads to very opposite political views that just become more polarized with more viewers, with the same ideology, watching. The audience then only watch their side of politics and people become defensive over which side is right and which side is wrong in terms of legislation and candidates for presidential or congressional
  • 17. The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three primary economic functions. First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system s wastefulness like the dependence on the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable, recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant value due to its special physical and chemical properties. Three Coins In The Fountain Research Hundreds of years ago, clean water was valued very much as it was rare and sacred, unlike our current generation where clean water can be easily accessed in most parts of the world. In the past, clean water was considered a gift from the gods by many tribes across the world in areas such as Europe, Africa, and Asia. As a matter of fact, countless people believed that deities themselves lived in the water. Back then, presenting gifts to deities were ancient practices generally done to appease an angry god or as payment for requests and prayer to the god. As a result, whenever watering holes were discovered, people threw money into the water in order to show gratitude for the clean water as well as to ensure the continuance of the precious water. And that, my fellow classmates, is how the superstition of tossing coins into fountains and wells had begun. Most people around the world today no longer worry or think twice about lacking clean water. But despite that, the tradition of throwing coins into wells and fountains still exist. The Gender Wage Gap In Film And Television Daniel Fare Professor Coffay 902: Gender, Sex, and Science 12 October 2017 Gender Wage Gap in Film and Television The gender wage gap and glass escalator are worldwide problems that permeate through a multitude of occupations, and no industry perpetuates these more blatantly than film and television. The gender wage gap is the continual disparity between the average salary of a male worker and the average salary of a female worker with the same or similar jobs or ranking of job. The glass escalator refers to the idea that women and minorities progress up the hierarchical ladder in their job fields slower than men do. In the film and television industry, the gender wage gap and glass escalator can be seen most prominently between actors and actresses in both leading and supporting roles; however, this gap can also be seen between male and female directors. It is also not limited to just one country or continent, spanning across both North America and Europe. Actresses and female directors across the globe deserve to be compensated as much as the actors and male directors they work with because it benefits the industry financially and creatively. Across many American industries, the gender wage gap has been proven to be a major financial issue. There is no clear and concrete reason for its existence, but researchers have found that lowered perceived competence and commitment to the job, lack of negotiation, and general employer sexism all contribute to the prolongation of the

The Lexile level of this book is AD750L, the reasoning behind this rating is due to all the vocabulary placed throughout the book. In our study of Beck from last semester, we explored the idea of tiered vocabulary. This book is filled with tier three vocabulary including specific types of butterflies and the different parts of a butterfly. These are terms that cannot be brought into a variety of subjects and that are unlikely to be known previously by students. In addition, there are also high level vocabulary words, that make the Lexile level go up as they are only used once throughout the book. In Readability and the Common Core s Staircase of Text Complexity by Elfrieda H. Though introduced through pharmaceutical companies for treatment from depression to colds, the drug has become one of America s most addictive, abusive, and destructive drugs. The economy and the role of the government, as well as pharmaceutical companies, play the main role in how meth was introduced and the reason it is still abused today. The novel, by Nick Reding, titled Methland follows the effects of meth on a small town, but it also gives us insight in to how these three factors play a major role in the making, use, abuse, and distributing of this drug. This paper will follow the timeline of methamphetamineand what was going on in the economy as well as government action. Methland is based in a town called Oelwein. The town was created as a hub city, due to the railroad lines that came in through its main streets. It also had many farms and ranches that created sustenance for the community and gave it resiliency. The contents of this book look in to various lives in Oelwein, and how they were affected by meth use. This meth use directly correlates with the decline of the economy in the story, as well as the movement of big companies and government regulations or better put, failed regulations. The story of Oelwein is a good model as to what happened in most agricultural based towns across the United States. Nick

  • 29. Persuasive Essay On Women Pay If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, why don t business hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So, hiring only women would reduce costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to the bottom line. Don t business want to be profitable. Or, are they just really bad at math? Well, actually,it s the feminists, celebrities and politicians spreading this wage gap myth who have the math problem. Here s why. The 77 cents on the dollar statistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full time by the median earnings of all men working full time. In other words, if the average income of all men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is say 30,800 dollars, that would mean that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns . These calculations do not reveal a genderwage injustice because it doesn t take it into account occupation, position, education or hours worked per week. Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist organization, shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you factor in differents choices men and women take. And the key word here is choice . The small wage gap that does exist has nothing to do with paying women less, let alone with sexism ; it has to do with differences in career choices that men and women make. In 2009, the US Department of Labor released a paper that examined more than 50 percent reviewed

The Era Of The American Civil War After the American Civil War, a laissez faire government allowed for a new class of businessmen to rise to power: those who dominated an entire industry, sometimes several markets. They were the hallmark of the so called Gilded Age, which lasted from the end of reconstruction until the early 1900s. These men, known as Robber Barons, shaped the American economy, necessitating new laws to be signed to limit their power . Although there were only four main Barons (John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan), they controlled much of the economy with their four respective trades: Oil, steel, railroads, and banking . Although all four were important, Rockefeller and Carnegie stand head and shoulders above the rest, becoming among the richest and most successful people the world has ever seen with the exception of some royalty. During the Civil War, both the Union and Confederacy converted to Total War economies. With all industries, from manufacturing to agriculture to textiles, focused on the war effort, many relatively new industries grew surpassingly large. Railroads in the North grew by around 16,000 miles, an increase of nearly 75%. However, relatively small companies controlled relatively small sections of track privately. This set the stage for Vanderbilt to begin buying up companies until he controlled one of the largest railroad networks ever seen. Sand or mud covers the deceased organism and, over time, that sand or mud hardens into rock, encasing the organism. The organism continues to decay, eventually leaving only an imprint. Entire organisms, partial organisms, or even traces of the passing of organisms can leave mold fossils. Trace fossils can form if two conditions are met. First, the activity has to take place in a material that will hold its form (like mud or clay). They state that EDD actually promotes the idea of radical democracy and deliberation, thus inviting the citizens to take real action, take part in politics, and to enter into a meaningful dialogue with the governmentto make the decision making process as transparent and efficient as possible. Hence, when reflecting on the advantages of such approach to practicing democracy, the researchers intend to indicate that the EDD model can be also helpful in deepening democracy due to a number reasons (above all due to its ability to connect action to discussion (Fung et al, 2001, p. 7). Moreover, according to the experts, as one of the most progressive organizational reforms, EDD ensures the better understanding of democratic practices and their importance (Fung et al, 2001, p. 7). From this, it follows that applying the principles of EDD is another measure which could help to reinforce democracy in the context of the present day world. While the majority of incidents are reported as pranks with no evidence of criminal activity, some incidents led to arrest as they involved assaults to individuals, threats to school and even robberies. This phenomenon of clownsightings is constantly occurring in the world around me globally and could be explained by four social psychological principles: group, deindividuation, groupthink and group polarization. Before understanding the social psychological principles applied to clown sightings, we need to know what group means as clown sightings usually happen in groups. A group is three or more people who interact and are independent in the sense that their needs and goals cause them to influence each other. In the clown sighting situation, people usually do it in a group with three or more people and they interact with each other with a goal to dress up as clown either for fun to prank people or actually doing act that is aggressive and threatening to others, like robbery, to achieve their goal of getting other people s money for instance. Deindividuation is the most important principles to explain clown sightings. Deindividuation means people often abandon normal restraint when in groups. This is because in group they lose sense of

After seeing the deaths, and suffering of the people and soldiers in World War I, Cattell began to have a huge curiosity in trying to fix the problems people have in their lives by using science. Cattell was very big on personality, his definition of Personality is that which permits a prediction of what a person will do in a given situation (Cattell). Cattells definition of personality is very different from other theorist. Freud is a great example; Freud s theory was that personality had three different types the id, the ego, and the super ego. At a later time in the child s life they may imitate the behavior that they are surrounded by. This can be related to nurture. Nurture means the things that us, as humans see in our environment not something we are born with that comes natural to us. Nature on the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree with the study Bandura conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with, but I feel like the things that tend to happen around us are really what influence us and make us the way we are. I for one know that there are many things that I learned just from being observation and watching adults and people that are older then me like my brother, I watched him do just about everything and everything he did I wanted to copy and that s why I feel that we as humans tend to be the people we are by the way we observe things. Becoming A Successful After Secondary Education It is a dream for most parents to have the opportunity to watch their children full time without having to worry about working full time, just to pay off their student debt. In the United states, out of all of the mothers, only 29 percent of mothers are full time stay at home mothers (D Vera Cohn, Gretchen Livingston, Wang). Cohn, Livingston and Wang study demographic and ethnic trends for a living (Cohn, Livingston, Wendy Wang). Sadly, in contrast to the 29 percent of stay at home mother, my friend Holly Haney, works countless hours every day and has to pay a large sum of her check to student debt. I wish I would have been more educated on student loans. Even though it was the cool thing to do back then, it certainly isn t anymore (Holly Haney). Like Holly, I am also learning that in order for me to become successful after secondary education, I need to be more educated on the dangers of having student debt , so that my future wife will be part of the 29 percent of full time stay at home mothers. By looking over the previous years, even though much has been said about student debt, very little attention has been paid on the causes and effects of having student debt. There are many important things to know about student debt, such as what types of loans are available for students and the advantages and disadvantages of some student loans. In the film Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, a nine year old girl named Alessa is forced to live a life of torment. Alessa s fear and pain never left but instead grew. Alessa as a result allowed her darkest emotions to split from her physical body creating a doppelgänger of herself; Dark Alessa. The darkest side of her own soul promised to make everyone who ever hurt her fall into her darkest dreams. A systematic exposure to hatred and maltreatment led Alessa to give up her innocence and invest herself fully to seeking revenge. How would you differentiate among multiple discriminant analysis, regression analysis, logistic regression analysis, and analysis of variance? The main difference is in the number of independent and dependent variables and the way in which these variables are measured. Note the following definitions: In Multiple discriminant analysis (MDA), the predictor or independent variables are metric and the single criterion or dependent variable is non metric . In Regression Analysis , both the multiple independent variables and the single dependent variable are metric. For equal group sizes, the optimum cutting score is defined by ZA + ZB ZCE = N ZCE is the critical cutting score value for equal size groups, ZA is the centroid for group A and ZB is the centroid for Group B and N is the total sample size. For unequal group sizes, the optimum cutting score is defined by NAZA + NBZB ZCU = NA + NB ZCU = is the critical cutting score value for unequal size groups, NA is the sample size for group A and NB is the sample size for Group B 5. How would you determine whether the classification accuracy of the discriminant function is sufficiently high relative to chance classification? There has to be some chance criterion that should be established. This is generally a fairly straight forward function of the classifications that is used in the model and of the sample size. The authors then suggest the criterion that the classification accuracy or the hit ratio must be at least twenty five percent greater than by chance. Other test can be to use a test of proportions to examine for the significance between the obtained hit ratio proportion and the chance criterion proportion . 6. How does a two group discriminant analysis differ from a three group

As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea of perfection is unobtainable. The older we get, the more we tend to accept the flaws and imperfections that make us individuals. However, there are others who never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend ridiculous amounts of money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between science and nature. On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on the other there s the scientific shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe that this is perhaps a topic Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided distaste for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark. Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He possesses a belief in man s ultimate control over nature , and thinks there is nothing man can t overcome (Harun). His obsession with his wife Georgiana s small birth mark, which resembles a hand, begins after they re married. Aylmer is fixated with the idea of Georgiana s perfection; he believes that in order for him to experience perfect love, he must have a perfect woman to love (Norman). Travelling to Cuba for the first time was amazing. Having only travelled to Mexico once before my first trip to Cuba I noticed a contrast in cultures even though my assumption was they would be similar because they are both Spanish speaking. My first trip to Varadero was over 12 years ago. I was informed that the locals valued tips of crayons, toothbrushes, razors, and toiletries, but I was unsure why. I later realized it was because of the embargos, they had no, or very limited access to, these items and many more. Chief Seattle Speech Summary Two great chiefs, Tecumseh and Seattle, attempted to address the U.S. government s negligence against the Native American tribes, who preceded the very men who ignore their needs. Chief Seattle delivers a speech to President Pierce in 1855, and in it contrasts nature and artificial cities. There is no quiet place in man s cities, no place to hear the leaves of spring or the rustle of insect wings. But perhaps because I am a savage and do not understand, the clatter only seems to insult the ears. (Seattle). He uses imagery to describe the delicacy of nature to the crude artificialness of man s cities , and provide a greater understanding of how their lives differ. Chief Seattle knows that the President, just like all other white me, has preconceptions about Native Americans. He most likely believes them to be too simplistic for white society, and even more so fears them. He already knows that white men perceive them as savages and acknowledges this in his speech in a repetitive manner saying, but we are just savages and do not understand (Seattle) three times. Chief Seattle despite knowing all of this, still attempts to get the white people to understand, because he doesn t want the two peoples, white and red, to live in fear of the other. As reported by the U.S. Justice Department, there has been significant increase in incarcerated African American males, in comparison to Hispanic and White males. It is believed that social interaction, area of residency, and social networks have major influence on the increasing crime and incarceration rates of African Americanmales. A larger portion of White males hold more positions within the U.S. Judicial system than African American males who make up a larger population of prison inmates and less involvement in legislation. This coincides with data suggesting that African American s have lower percentages of receiving or obtaining higher education, placing them in areas of low income and less opportunities. Social inequality in the judicial system is questioned as well as demographics and economics will be researched in order to provide in depth analysis of these national percentages of African Americans. Additional research is conducted to investigate circumstances once an African American male enters the criminal judicial system, and a generational cycle of crime. Stimuli responsive and self regulating drug delivery systems have captured the imagination of researchers, in large part because they suggest a means to mimic the physiological homeostatic feedback mechanisms that are essential for health. As dysregulation of homeostasis is a feature of many diseases such as diabetes and cancer. 1.Introduction: Conventional drug delivery systems (DDSs) are often accompanied by systemic side effects that mainly are attributed to their nonspecific bio distribution and uncontrollable drug release characteristics. To overcome these limitations, advanced controlled DDSs have been developed to achieve the release of payloads at the target sites in a spatial controlled manner. Commercially available controlled release devices offer several advantages, e.g. they maintain the drug within the desired therapeutic range with just a single dose, they allow localized drug delivery which ultimately may reduce the need for follow up care, they preserve drugs that are rapidly destroyed by the body and ultimately improve patient compliance. Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg, filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for Bradley s wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual s using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1) No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major part in the City of Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over aesthetics even with the prior knowledge of past suicidal events.
