During the session, I shared stories about 3D printing with kids around the world, and walked participants through an abbreviated version of the City X Project, a 3D printing and design thinking curriculum for kids created by IDEAco.

Christopher Bishop discusses how jobs are rapidly changing due to new technologies. The US Department of Labor predicts that today's learners will have 8-10 jobs by age 38. Many current jobs did not exist 5 years ago, and 15% of future jobs have not been created yet. Bishop argues that general skills like problem solving, leadership, humility, understanding cause and effect, and expertise will be more important than test scores. Employers will care more about what people can do with their knowledge rather than how they learned it. Bishop encourages the audience to stay excited and prepared for an uncertain future.

The Women in VR movement in the US is super popular, is growing quickly and a great resource to the VR community as a whole. European women in VR, AR & other future audiovisual technologies are numerous as well, but should unite to identify other women in VR, to support each other, and in general to ensure the VR/AR industry in Europe is as female/minority friendly as other regions are across the world.
The start of a new medium as VR provides an unprecedented opportunity to structurally improve the industry from the get go. VR innovation happens today, and we need to ensure diversity, equality and inclusion are cornerstones of this booming new industry. In the presentation, data is highlighted that shows that women in tech are more competent and female film directors in Europe are more successful. More women in VR today will accelerate the success of VR in general.

The Digital Nomad Strategy
We've been told our whole lives ownership is key to success. Even in marketing we are told how much we need to have a paid/owned/earned strategy. But how if this strategic approach that puts an emphasis on ownership is all incorrect? What if the key to success in the 21st century of communications was similar to our economic condition where renting and utilizing resources when necessary is more important? What if we went full circle to the agricultural age due to cloud computing technology and adopted a nomadic strategy? Where we went not where we could grow or gather food but to grown and cultivate partnership relationships. Where we help grow new business models where the lines between employees and customers are blurred?

Through hosting workshops for kids in coding, I learned from parents and teachers that they, too, wanted to know more about technology, but didn't know where to get started. That's when I decided to test out a new idea, which was a workshop series for adults to learn computer programming in an easy and non-threatening way.

Dr Igor Calzada will present on 4th December in London ‘Unplugging the Smart City’ conference paper in the Future Cities Summit Re·Work as a consequence of the joint research ‘Unplugging > Beyond Hyper-Connected Societies’ funded partially by The Oxford Research Center in Humanities and the article published at the Journal of Urban Technology ‘Unplugging > Deconstructing the Smart City’.
The conference will focus on an overview of the impact of being digitally connected on citizens:
Technology is never neutral as Williams (1983) stated. We should identify critically how to evolve as society and human beings by keeping smartly connected rather than being self-deterministically forced to be hyper-connected. Even though some dark side effects of the technology can be identified (Ippolita, 2008), the conference aims to draw on a critical social innovation pathway as a transition towards alternative digital humanities practices for our daily life. Nevertheless, there are plenty of pending questions about this subtle notion, that the conference will clustered as #Unplugging.
According to the Journal of Urban Technology, the article will be available at their website from 8th January 2015.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
