Underlying Problems of the Kyoto Protocol
For the past years, global warming and climate change became important issues of science and the
environment. However, with the realization of the possible threats it poses to humankind in general,
global warming gained international significance. Climate change is a global problem that requires a
global response embracing the needs and interests of all countries (Boer, 2008). Countries around the
world, convinced by the threats of the global warming, choose to act hand in hand to face to the issue.
United Nations, the pioneering organization that resolves international conflicts, organized the United
Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in July 1992. The conference,
organized a series of talks to create a treaty whose goal is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in
the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate
system . It resulted in the creation of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Commission
(UNFCCC), the first step of the international community in mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG)
emission. The Convention enjoys near universal membership, participated by 195 states. By
considering global warming as a multilateral issue that knows no territorial boundaries, the treaty asks
the cooperation of the participating states in combating the issue. The framework, although a very
significant step in mitigating global warming, failed to accomplish its targets because of its inadequate

Lithium Research Paper
Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and is known as the lightest metal, and is half as
dense as water. It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table.
Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name
Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to
Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August
Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William
Thomas Brande. Lithium is made of two stable isotopes, with Lithium 6 containing 3 neutrons and
accounting 7.59% of the natural abundance of lithium, and Lithium 7 containing 4 neutrons and
accounting for 92.41% of lithium s natural abundance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One typically thinks of batteries when they think of lithium, as they are heavily involved in the
process of making rechargeable, storage, and dry batteries. Lithium alloys can also be formed when
combined with elements such as copper, aluminium, cadmium, and manganese in order to help create
light parts for aircraft. It is also added to glass in order to make it lighter and stronger as well. Lithium
is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, and because of this, has become the inspiration for
two songs, both named Lithium, by the bands Nirvana and Evanescence. When mixed with hydroxide,
Lithium hydroxide is used to absorb the carbon dioxide found in space vehicles. Because it produces a
bright red flame when burned, Lithium is also added to fireworks in order to produce a red spark.
Unfortunately, lithium is also a key ingredient in the production of

The Importance Of Strath Suardal Formation Of The Durness...
The country rock was identified in the field to be a Meta Limestone, but a more in depth chemical
analysis done by others classifies it as a dolostone of the Strath Suardal formation from the Durness
group. (Digimap, 2017) (Goodenough et al. 2011)
There are two distinctive features present in this unit. The first is the syncline and anticline that extend
across the map in a NEE SWW strike, shown in Figure 5.1 (Need to fix map to show this). The second
is the thermal areole found in relation to the Beinn an Dubhaich granite intrusion. The most frequently
mentioned folding in the area is a large anticline which extends from the Beinn an Dubhaich intrusion
NEE towards Broadford, named the Broadford Anticline. On the contrary, the main ... Show more

This correlates to Hoersch s highest temperature forsterite bearing zone which would be found closest
to the contact.
The Large Intrusive Igneous Rocks
In the area there are three main large igneous intrusions. Two are the granitic intrusions to the north
(Beinn Dearg Bheag/Inner Granite) and south (Beinn an Dubhaich) of the map in Figure 5.1.1, the
other is a smaller, patchy intrusion of Micro Diorite which curves across the north east of the map and
appears in blobs in other places within the Agglomerate unit.
This study classifies the two granites under one unit named the Kilbride Granite, however, the
research, which uses both radiometric dating and composition analysis, identifies them as two
compositionally separate units with different ages. On the other hand, it is not wrong to say that the
granites were related as they are the two latest forming members of the Eastern Red Hills complex.
(Bell and Harris, 1986)
The extent of the granites and their contacts with others are often heavily inferred. This was most
often due to poor exposure. Usually the granite contacts were inferred from topographical changes
instead of visible changes in rock type. Features such as clefts, also noticed by Raybould (1973), tree
lines and waterfalls (due to the relatively poor permeability and greater hardness of the granite in
comparison to the Meta Limestone), were all used to map the Beinn an Dubhaich granite. The Inner
Granite was signified by a steepening in slope angle and the

Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man
Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in
which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the
torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about
to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he
emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the
foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the
novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with
Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind;
specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in
the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed
the Fukú on the world. (Review: It s a Wonderful Life 4). Fukú is shown through the many horrific
events that are shown throughout. Trujillo is believed to be able to put the curse on whoever he
chooses for many generations to follow. In the news article Fukú Americanus, Deresiewicz states, The
white man s advent, the narrator tells us, released a demon into the world: Fukú americanus, the Curse

We live in a time where technology is constantly advancing, and the media is in every aspect of the

Freeze And Thaw In Concrete
The Effects of Freeze and Thaw in Concrete
Most people think concrete is an impenetrable solid. But in actually, concrete is a porous material with
many capillaries and voids throughout the surface. Although concrete is strong in compressive
strength, it is weak in tensile stength and elasticity. Concrete can tolerate heavy loads, but it is
susceptible to damage which causes it to break apart over time.
One damaging effect is freezing water. When water melts, it absorbs into the pores and capillaries. As
the water freezes and expands, it weakens the strength of the concrete. This causes concrete scaling,
delamination, and cracking.
The freeze and thaw cycle isn t restricted to just northern climates. It also occurs in warmer climates
where the temperature drops below freezing at night, and rises above freezing during the day.
Sometimes deicing chemicals are applied to the surface to temporary lower the melting point of ice by

This will help prevent water absorption as well as expansion.
Another popular solution is replacing the soil with more porous alternatives, such as sand and gravel.
To divert water away from the foundation, you can also dig a subterranean reservoir on the property.
How the Freeze and Thaw Cycle Damages Foundations
Since the freeze and thaw cycle damages concrete surfaces, it can also cause shifts and cracks beneath
the home s foundation. Soil within a high water table are particularly problematic since they have poor
drainage around the property.
Although you can t prevent the freeze and thaw cycle, you can protect your foundation. At MFS
Basement and Foundation Repair, we implement water management systems, such as heavy duty
sump pumps, interior/exterior drainage systems, French drains, and a surface drainage. We also
provide foundation repair products to fix foundation cracks and settlement

Parental Involvement In The Longitudinal Study
Introduction
Parental involvement is vital in creating an environment for the student to thrive and succeed in.
Parents are the primary caregivers and crucial assets in a child s academic life. The parent child
relationship is very important because children tend to view their parents as being the most important
role models in their lives. It is important to establish parent teacher collaboration because it allows the
parent and teacher to connect in the best interest of the child. Based on the Longitudinal studies which
focus on changes in behavior over time the findings of whether family involvement have a lasting
impact on children s academic achievements showed that the children in the study was more
motivated, and academically did well across all grades. The Longitudinal studies indicated that early
family has potential to influence children s academic achievement across grades. ( Coleman 2013, p.
52). The first parent teacher conference of the school year my daughter received 2 s in english and
math on her report card as well as 3 s in gym and music. When I sat down to talk to the teacher I was
not so happy about her grades on her report card, so I asked the teacher what can I do to help her. As a

Floor Supervisor Case Summary
In this case study, an employee named Sarah gets a new managerial position. As part of this new
position, Sarah is now in charge of overseeing her company s production factory. Although Sarah has
not worked in the factory before, or has no experience in a factory, she was still put in charge. At the
end of the first day of overseeing the factory, Sarah becomes very concerned with the large amount of
workers still there and working overtime. To get an explanation, Sarah went to one of her Floor
Supervisors to get an explanation. The Floor Supervisor explains in order to meet the company s
production goals, the factory workers work off the clock after their paid hours. It is then explained to
Sarah that this practice, although illegal, is know throughout upper management, all the way up to ...

This not only solves the legality situation that the company faces, but it also gives the workers their
days back. Those factory workers are people too. This solution falls under the Kantian school of
ethics. This school of ethics was established by Immanuel Kant and is all about the individual. Kant
argues that people should be treated like the actual human beings that they are and not just some piece
of property that is to be used to achieve the end goal of a company. The current way this company is
treating their factory workers is like they are just pieces of property. If Sarah is to stop the illegal
overtime, she is showing that the employees matter and that she cares for those workers. These
workers most likely have families, and by making them work this overtime, you are not only hurting
the workers, you are hurting the families too. You are hurting the families by taking time away from
the worker being with their family and you are not giving them the proper compensation for that taken

General Practice Attorneys
The first step to planning and organizing a law firm is identifying your practice niche(s). This is
important because it is the foundation for everything you will have to do down the line. Attorneys can
have either a specific specialization or a general practice. General practice attorneys handle all
different types of cases. Because different areas of law are diverse, it is difficult for general practice
attorneys to be skilled in all areas of law. Attorneys who specialize in a particular area of law generally
work on cases only within that area because only attorneys who focus on this type of work are able to
understand the very specific rules and regulations of the specific practice.
Litigation attorneys refer to the type of attorney that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing your competition will help you distinguish your practice from theirs and it will help you find
opportunities in the legal field. More importantly, analyzing your competition will tell you more about
what your potential clients want. And, knowing what clients want is critical to your success. As you
build your competitive analysis, remember to stay focused on what matters. If you plan to have a
practice that handles only plaintiff s bodily injury cases, don t spend time learning about the
intellectual property practices in your neighborhood. Prepare your competitive analysis by identifying
who are your major competitors, what is the basis of the competition, and how do your services
compare.
Having your firm being spread by referral by a current client, colleagues, bar association, etc. will be
the reason for a large majority of the firm s success. People like to talk, whether they are talking about
the service you provided that they enjoyed or your service that left them wanting to come back. Word
of mouth has a snowball effect, particularly in an age when fast worldwide communication is
common. Your firm can t afford not to consider how quickly its service and reputation can be
badmouthed. This is why marketing the firm s service honestly and with integrity is

Charles Dickens Ambition
The circumstances someone is exposed to can construct their ambitions and motives. The protagonist
in the novel, Pip, begins the novel as a young, common boy who desires to pursue his vague goal of
becoming a gentleman because he is unhappy with his current status. Throughout his transformation,
he meets a young and heartless girl named Estella in which everything he did in his life was no longer
for himself but for Estella. Once he attains his goal, he comes to the realization that his ambition did
not bring him any happiness. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Dickens portrays how
different social groups are delineated in the Victorian Era, 19th century England. In the novel, Dickens
closely follows the inner growth of a protagonist from his childhood as an indigent to middle age as he
commutes with the wealthy. Dickens effectively elucidates how social class has a direct connection to
moral behavior, how one develops shame of his own roots, and the affection of wealth. Being raised in
a high class can transmute someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

customers receive an average of four prescriptions on a monthly basis from the pharmacy (WAG
Annual Reports, 2007). With 65% of the sales revenue of the company coming from the pharmacy,
Walgreens declines to bargain with out of pocket customers over price. Regardless of a climbing
prescription drug price trend, demand remains elastic because customers demand choices of similar,
less expensive medications if authorized by their doctor. The amount of reimbursement Walgreens
receives from Medicare, Medicaid, and Worker s Compensation falls drastically, as incremental
revenues from those sources decreases (Stewart, 2006). According to Lueck, Medicare and Medicaid
comprise 25 percent of the federal budget, and the government cannot afford to spend at the current

buying sections of Medicare Part D insurance companies: AARP Walgreens vs. CVS Caremark

If A Person Gains Personal Enhancement Through Prominence
If a person gains personal enhancement through prominence as an expert in a public controversy, such
prominence may transfer him into a limited purpose public figure. In Gilbert, a well known plastic
surgeon sued one of his patients for establishing a website criticizing unsuccessful surgeries
performed by the surgeon. The court held the surgeon voluntarily thrust himself into the controversy
of plastic surgery by appearing on local television shows as well as writing articles in medical journals
and beauty magazine, promoting the virtues of plastic surgery. Additionally, the court held that the
surgeon s sought after prominence as an expert in and advocate for plastic surgery as means of

The court held that the president had injected himself into the controversy, and he was a limited
purpose public figure. Moreover, the court held that even though there was a period of time when the
controversy was not discussed publicly, the president s public figure status did not end spontaneously
with the stopping of the publicity. Rather, the public figure status continued as long as the particular
controversy continued.
A company s publication on a public forum with the purpose of influencing a controversy may be
voluntary injection. In Ampex, a former employee posted negative comments about a company on an
Internet message board, accusing his former employer of incompetence and the company s
management of being defective. The company issued press releases in response to the defamation, and
made them available on the company Web site. The court found the company had voluntarily injected
itself into the public controversy, because the Web site was a public forum that the company
frequently made public announcements on it for people to view. Publishing the issued press releases
on a public forum to influence the public opinion and counter the negative comments, such actions
was sufficient to prove the injection, because these actions had inserted the company into the public s
eye about the controversy.

The Impact Of Imperialism
Anciently, imperialism has developed with the rise of human s civilisation. Imperialism defined as per
Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or
influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the contemporary
colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism such as Rudyard
Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk, 2017). The poem
reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached with a duty to spread
Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they were primitive
barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need guidance to change their
way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European counterparts in colonial superiority
and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of the land in the earth and they gained that
status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres. By 1783, Britain had established an empire
which comprised colonies in Canada, America and the West Indies (BBC.co.uk, 2017). The British

essay, the characteristics of a counsellor and a friend will be expanded upon in order to gain a greater
knowledge for deciphering the two. We all have been in situations where we hit a brick wall in our life
and are unsure of the next step or the next move to make. We have close friends to whom we can turn
and reach out to, but in some situations, are they really our best option for help? Friends are needed
for support on many levels, but on others, professional reinforcement may be of greater good. With
that said, I challenge you the reader and ask the questions: What is counselling? How does a
counsellor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I told her that as long as she keeps the door to her life open, he will continue to come back and let
himself in. she says its hard, that she s afraid to let him go and stand alone. My question to her was,
are you happy now? He sleeps with you when he needs a fix, but lives with another woman and their
child. You can t tell me that you re happy. It may hurt for a while, but trust me; you ll thank God that
you did it in the end. I m sorry about your loss, and please don t get upset when I say this, but I do
believe everything happens for a reason. You should deem this your second chance. I could feel she
didn t like my delivery, but I also felt that I was heard. All I can do is hope and pray that my words
solidify in the back of her mind. As a counsellor, you have an obligation to remain objective and non
judgmental at whatever is said to you by your client. I can recall feeling slightly judgmental; I thought
to myself that my client/friend was making completely unhealthy and unwise decisions. Her actions
were so silly and desperate and completely opposite to how I would have acted. I attempted to transfer
my views as diplomatically as possible, trying not to cause a wall of defense to be built. In an actual
client and counsellor setting, this type of thinking definitely defies objectivity standpoints that
counsellors should ensue. Objectivity is

Descriptive Essay About A White House
Driving down the path, lined with small American flags, I began to see the large white house. It is
quite an old house, however there were a few additions added. My mom pulled into the parking lot of
a driveway and started taking food out of the trunk and bringing it into the house. I could have helped
her, but instead I decided that I wanted to bring my luggage in and put it in the room that was assigned
for me. I jogged back down the stairs and was greeted by my uncle s girlfriend, Sandy. Sandy is a
wonderful, gentle, and kind woman who happens to be a good baker. She gave me a hug and kissed
my forehead, asking me how my trip was, and I told her that I slept the entire ride to Maryland. After
hearing this, she laughed and walked out on to the enclosed porch area. I walked through the kitchen,
grabbing a cup of water, and asked my mom when my dad would be getting her. She told me that he
would be here in two days because he must pick up a surprise; disappointed, I walked outside and was
greeted by the farm cat Tala, she is a very loving cat, even though she only has one eye. I started
petting her, and even held her for a little bit, playing with her tail and rubbing her ears, anything to get
her to stay cuddling with me. After about 10 minutes went by, she ran off, chasing a bird. Standing up
from my spot on the stairs, I headed towards the pool area assuming that is where my uncle s voice is
originating from, and I was correct, he was at his Tiki bar, making drinks for

Key Club Research Paper
Hi, Ms. Hitchens!
I m President of Chatfield s Key Club. At our last officer meeting, my fellow officers expressed
interest in setting up a booth for the bonfire to raise both awareness and money for the Eliminate
project. I m extremely passionate about this project and can go on a rant about it, but I ll try my
absolute hardest to give you a quick little summary:
The Eliminate project is our main service project that Key Club International is focusing on this year,
and we have been dedicated to this project since it began five years ago. Kiwanis (who sponsors Key
Club) and UNICEF formed a partnership to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the
face of the planet. Primarily in countries with poor birthing conditions, tetanus spores (found in soil
everywhere) may infect open wounds, infecting the umbilical cord and causing the newborn to
contract MNT. Known to be the seven day death, the baby suffers from excruciating convulsions and
an extreme sensitivity to light, sound, and touch, preventing even a mother s comfort. Every eleven
minutes, a newborn dies from MNT. However, it only costs $1.80 to provide the necessary vaccination
that will protect a mother and all of her future children, saving a family from being torn apart. Great
progress has been made already. Key Club has helped Kiwanis and UNICEF eliminate MNT from
over twenty countries. If you want to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initiative. Each letter is assigned to each month in the school year, starting in September with Educate.
Chatfield s Key Club officers were hoping we could set up a booth at the bonfire to educate our
community about this project and to begin to raise money to save lives. At our next Key Club meeting
on September 15, we plan to create a committee to prepare and run the booth. Our Vice President,
George Beckwith (who I copied into this email) will lead this

How Temperature Affects The Movement Of The Common Woodlouse
Research Question: How does temperature affect the movement of the common woodlouse,
Armadillidium vulgare
Aim: To observe the preferences of habitat temperature of woodlice
Information
Woodlice are crustaceans and are similar to crabs. They have an exoskeleton which gives them
protection. Woodlice also have a segmented body that has 14 separate limbs. Having this many
segments allows the woodlouse to curl into a ball to protect itself from danger. However this can only
be done by certain species. One genus of woodlice that can do this is the Armadillidiidae or commonly
known as Pillbugs. When in danger the pillbug rolls up into a ball to protect itself. Once out of danger
it unravels and continues on as usual. How the temperature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Modern Day Self-Portrait
We started the day off by showing the students the slideshow on what is a self portrait. They were
extremely engaged answering questions as we moved through the slides. I started off asking them
questions about the first slide. Is there any artist they recognized? I snuck in one of my own self
portraits on the first slide to see if they could guess it was actually one I had painted. In addition, some
of the students were able to guess Van Gogh, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo. One of the students pointed to
my portrait and said it looked like me. It was fun because I replied back, yes it was me. We then went
into a discussion on what makes up a self portrait and how one could express themselves through a
self portrait. As we further discussed the self portrait I continued through my slideshow. One of the
topics was the difference between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the selfie, photos and Facebook photos, etc. We went over art elements and what specific
elements could we see in the self portraits represented on the slideshow. We continued to discuss how
the artists expressed who they were through their self portraits. Next the students and I talked about
how in order to improve on their artwork they would need to practice, practice, practice. I showed
them a self portrait I drew at their age and then one I painted not too long ago. During this
presentation, even though students were very engaged and surprisingly expressive with their answers,
I felt they were a little restless. I asked the students what could I improve upon with the lesson and
they suggested a worksheet they could use to follow along and remember the artists. The approach I
took by engaging the students in their educational environment is known as, progressive education.
According to Sadker and Zittleman (2012), The role of the teacher is to identify student needs and
interests and provide an educational environment that builds on them (p.

of advantages such as better customer decisions and less time is spent in resolving invoice and order

labour costs, reduce delivery time and reduce the cost encountered by such things as overtime,
telephone calls, mail preparation and data entry. The operational benefits of setting up ecommerce for

processes. All these advantages enable a business to harness the power of ecommerce and convert
their business to ebusiness The Benefits of Electronic Payments Electronic payments can be beneficial
to your business by extending your customer base, boosting cash flow, reducing costs, enhancing

Resurrection In Charles Dicken s A Tale Of Two Cities
The concept of resurrection has always been an alluring subject in all cultures. Some believe this can
be achieved through purification and repentance. Throughout the book, situations arise in which
characters allude to rising again in a new life. The reader sees to what length people will go to bring
about improvement in a beloved s life, or to achieve a much desired afterlife of one s own. In Charles
Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities, the idea of resurrection plays a huge role in the lives of many
characters, including Dr. Manette, Sydney Carton, and Jerry Cruncher; the theme also adds to Dickens
s message by illustrating the importance of love, morality, and faith. One very significant example is
of Dr. Manette, who originally was traumatized as a result of his unfair imprisonment but eventually is
recalled to life (Dickens 13). While Dr. Manette was in jail, he grappled exhaustingly every day trying
to deal with his deteriorating mental state. His time spent in the Bastille is compared to him being
buried alive for this reason; it was so inhumane and cruel that he felt dead. Dr. Manette was essentially
being brought back to life with his release from prison. However, Dr. Manette s rebirth has just begun
and does not become complete until he is reunited with his daughter (Dingyuan and Xiaohua 91). His
freedom does not only affect his life, it has a huge impact on his daughter and even other characters
like Darnay. Lucie s unconditional love for her father is

Analysis of Shall I Compare Thee to a Summers Day, First Love and Let Me Not
Shall I compare thee to a summer s day is written by William Shakespeare and it is about him
describing a person. It is most likely to be a lover because he is using language which is more
generally associated with love. In the first two lines he say s that Shall I compare thee to a summers
day? He also says you are lovelier and more temperate. He is saying that you are even nicer than a
summer s day and a nice person who is evenly tempered. He then uses references to the darling buds
of maie, these tell us that they are beautiful and a sign that summer is on its way.

First Love is a poem written by John Clare, and straight away just by looking at the title we know
what this poem is about. He uses very strong and powerful language in the first verse of the Sonnet
and he is talking about how in love he is. In the first line he says that I never was struck , almost as if
he was hit by love, even though we know he doesn t mean the literal term of being hurt by this. He
was struck by love at first sight which struck suddenly and so sweet . He is describing her beauty and
saying that it is like a blooming flower which stole his heart almost as if his heart could be taken away
from his body and be a separate part of him.
He then goes on to say in lines five to nine to speak about the effect of her beauty on him. His face
turned pale almost a deadly pale and his legs refused to walk away . He is transfixed with her and
cannot move. His life and all seemed to turn to clay. In the second verse he is saying that all the blood
is rushing to his face and took his sight away. He is blushing which takes away his sight. He is blinded
by love. We know that he cannot see because he goes on to say the trees and bushes round the place
seemed midnight at noonday. Even though it is midday it seems like it is midnight because he can t
see anything.

The King s Speech Essay
The movie The King s Speech is about Prince Albert, Duke of York, who later becomes King George
VI. The story focuses on the treatment of his speech impediment, a stammer, and the friendship he
develops with his speech therapist, Lionel Logue. Throughout Prince Albert s, or Bertie s, treatment he
unexpectedly finds himself on the throne. Bertie s wife, Elizabeth, is another important character, who
stands by his side through it all. It is a heartwarming story about friendship, loyalty, and trust. In this
movie many interpersonal concepts are present, but three apparent and vital ones were perceptions,
nonverbal messages, and relationship stages. Perception was a continuous theme throughout the
movie. Whether it was how the invention of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bertie holds Lionel in the highest of standards. Bertie even insists the Lionel is seated in the king s
box during his coronation. However, when the authenticity and certification of Lionel is brought up, it
momentarily changes Bertie s perception of him, it lowers with this new knowledge. Furthermore, it
lowers Bertie s own perception in his own abilities that Lionel has helped him achieve. Additionally,
there is the constant of Bertie s own self perception. In the beginning of the movie Bertie is convinced
that nothing can ever been done to improve his stammer. At one point he even angrily leaves one of
his sessions with Lionel because he is so entirely sure it is a waste of time. Yet, scenes such as the one
where he finally listens to the recording he made with Lionel, starts to change his self perception. The
more treatments Bertie receives the more his self perception changes. There are moment s it waivers
however, such as right before his coronation and then again right before the final radio address. Bertie
s perception of himself changes he begins to believe in his abilities. Another important interpersonal
concept covered vastly in this film was nonverbal messages. With the emphasis on speeches and radio
addresses, along with Bertie s speech impediment, it was a significant part of the film. The old saying
of it s not what you say, but how you say it is

Protect the Peace in Somalia Essay
Protect the Peace in Somalia
Popular culture s depiction of pirates and piracy is romanticized and sanitized through favorable
portrayals of characters like Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean; however the real piracy that has
been occurring in Somalia is very different from what is shown in the movies. This has been going on
for many years and no organization has been able to put a stop to this. Pirates board ships and hold the
captain and crew hostage until the ship owners pay ransom, and if they refuse the pirates do not resist
killing the hostages. Pirates have also been known to steal resources such as oil, but this is not as
common. The U.S. needs to take action in combating Somalian piracy by targeting networks through

The best solution to the Somali Piracy problem is targeting networks which involves keeping the
pirates under constant watch and control. Targeting networks is a system where the government tracks
the pirates in Somalia and tracks everything they do to make sure they don t go back onto the waters.
This is similar to the way that the United States combats organized crime. Authorities would monitor
bank accounts, engage in direct and electronic surveillance, and aggressively pursue frequent
offenders (Thomas). If the pirates were under constant surveillance, they would be less likely to go out
onto the waters because they would be aware that they are being watched. We are focused on
identifying and apprehending the criminal conspirators who lead, manage, and finance the pirate
enterprise, with the objective of bringing them to trials. (Francesco) By targeting networks, the U.S. is
focused on bringing pirates to justice and stopping them from going on to the waters and stealing
money and resources.
Many countries and groups are involved in helping end the worldwide problem of piracy in Somali.
The U.S. government, the Somali pirates, NATO and the UN are four of the many groups that are
involved with the issue of Somali Piracy. NATO s goal is to provide peaceful resolution to disputes.
Not contesting Somalia piracy issues would be in direct conflict with their goals (Dryad). NATO is
trying to

What Are The Similarities Between Samuel Johnson And Noah...
The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as Samuel
Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons for taking
on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons may greatly
differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson s reason of
standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for defining words,
Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted certain words to be
spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his criticism and witty remarks
towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s dictionary is filled with
facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous definition of oats is
offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain, which in England is
generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The way he chose to define
the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless and inferior, but also that
Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English Language. Whereas Noah
Webster maintain a more respectful and direct tone. In Webster s Compendious Dictionary of the
English language, his definitions do not exhibit any bias. Illustrations of this are governmental words

Demand increased between the great wars for a better public health system. Private hospitals were too
expensive for many people with serious ailments. Public hospitals became the best place to receive the

contribution schemes in the 1930 s
In 1928, a compulsory health insurance scheme was suggested and turned down because the friendlies
society thought it compromised their business model. It was then reintroduced in 1938 and this time
opposed by the medical profession as they questioned the range of services covered.
In 1944 a Pharmaceuticals Scheme was implemented but was challenged by the Victorian government

an infringement on a practitioner s right to prescribe medication new PBS commenced but was not

  • 2. Underlying Problems of the Kyoto Protocol For the past years, global warming and climate change became important issues of science and the environment. However, with the realization of the possible threats it poses to humankind in general, global warming gained international significance. Climate change is a global problem that requires a global response embracing the needs and interests of all countries (Boer, 2008). Countries around the world, convinced by the threats of the global warming, choose to act hand in hand to face to the issue. United Nations, the pioneering organization that resolves international conflicts, organized the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in July 1992. The conference, organized a series of talks to create a treaty whose goal is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system . It resulted in the creation of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Commission (UNFCCC), the first step of the international community in mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. The Convention enjoys near universal membership, participated by 195 states. By considering global warming as a multilateral issue that knows no territorial boundaries, the treaty asks the cooperation of the participating states in combating the issue. The framework, although a very significant step in mitigating global warming, failed to accomplish its targets because of its inadequate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lithium Research Paper Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and is known as the lightest metal, and is half as dense as water. It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table. Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William Thomas Brande. Lithium is made of two stable isotopes, with Lithium 6 containing 3 neutrons and accounting 7.59% of the natural abundance of lithium, and Lithium 7 containing 4 neutrons and accounting for 92.41% of lithium s natural abundance. ... Lithium alloys can also be formed when combined with elements such as copper, aluminium, cadmium, and manganese in order to help create light parts for aircraft. It is also added to glass in order to make it lighter and stronger as well. Lithium is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, and because of this, has become the inspiration for two songs, both named Lithium, by the bands Nirvana and Evanescence. When mixed with hydroxide, Lithium hydroxide is used to absorb the carbon dioxide found in space vehicles. Because it produces a bright red flame when burned, Lithium is also added to fireworks in order to produce a red spark. Unfortunately, lithium is also a key ingredient in the production of ... The country rock was identified in the field to be a Meta Limestone, but a more in depth chemical analysis done by others classifies it as a dolostone of the Strath Suardal formation from the Durness group. (Digimap, 2017) (Goodenough et al. 2011) There are two distinctive features present in this unit. The first is the syncline and anticline that extend across the map in a NEE SWW strike, shown in Figure 5.1 (Need to fix map to show this). The second is the thermal areole found in relation to the Beinn an Dubhaich granite intrusion. The most frequently mentioned folding in the area is a large anticline which extends from the Beinn an Dubhaich intrusion NEE towards Broadford, named the Broadford Anticline. On the contrary, the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This correlates to Hoersch s highest temperature forsterite bearing zone which would be found closest to the contact. The Large Intrusive Igneous Rocks In the area there are three main large igneous intrusions. Two are the granitic intrusions to the north (Beinn Dearg Bheag/Inner Granite) and south (Beinn an Dubhaich) of the map in Figure 5.1.1, the other is a smaller, patchy intrusion of Micro Diorite which curves across the north east of the map and appears in blobs in other places within the Agglomerate unit. This study classifies the two granites under one unit named the Kilbride Granite, however, the research, which uses both radiometric dating and composition analysis, identifies them as two compositionally separate units with different ages. On the other hand, it is not wrong to say that the granites were related as they are the two latest forming members of the Eastern Red Hills complex. (Bell and Harris, 1986) The extent of the granites and their contacts with others are often heavily inferred. This was most often due to poor exposure. Usually the granite contacts were inferred from topographical changes instead of visible changes in rock type. Features such as clefts, also noticed by Raybould (1973), tree lines and waterfalls (due to the relatively poor permeability and greater hardness of the granite in comparison to the Meta Limestone), were all used to map the Beinn an Dubhaich granite. The Inner Granite was signified by a steepening in slope angle and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed the Fukú on the world. (Review: It s a Wonderful Life 4). Fukú is shown through the many horrific events that are shown throughout. Trujillo is believed to be able to put the curse on whoever he chooses for many generations to follow. In the news article Fukú Americanus, Deresiewicz states, The white man s advent, the narrator tells us, released a demon into the world: Fukú americanus, the Curse and ... • 7. Freeze And Thaw In Concrete The Effects of Freeze and Thaw in Concrete Most people think concrete is an impenetrable solid. But in actually, concrete is a porous material with many capillaries and voids throughout the surface. Although concrete is strong in compressive strength, it is weak in tensile stength and elasticity. Concrete can tolerate heavy loads, but it is susceptible to damage which causes it to break apart over time. One damaging effect is freezing water. When water melts, it absorbs into the pores and capillaries. As the water freezes and expands, it weakens the strength of the concrete. This causes concrete scaling, delamination, and cracking. The freeze and thaw cycle isn t restricted to just northern climates. It also occurs in warmer climates where the temperature drops below freezing at night, and rises above freezing during the day. • 8. Parental Involvement In The Longitudinal Study Introduction Parental involvement is vital in creating an environment for the student to thrive and succeed in. Parents are the primary caregivers and crucial assets in a child s academic life. The parent child relationship is very important because children tend to view their parents as being the most important role models in their lives. It is important to establish parent teacher collaboration because it allows the parent and teacher to connect in the best interest of the child. Based on the Longitudinal studies which focus on changes in behavior over time the findings of whether family involvement have a lasting impact on children s academic achievements showed that the children in the study was more motivated, and academically did well across all grades. The Longitudinal studies indicated that early family has potential to influence children s academic achievement across grades. ( Coleman 2013, p. 52). The current way this company is treating their factory workers is like they are just pieces of property. The protagonist in the novel, Pip, begins the novel as a young, common boy who desires to pursue his vague goal of becoming a gentleman because he is unhappy with his current status. Throughout his transformation, he meets a young and heartless girl named Estella in which everything he did in his life was no longer for himself but for Estella. Once he attains his goal, he comes to the realization that his ambition did not bring him any happiness. In the novel, Dickens closely follows the inner growth of a protagonist from his childhood as an indigent to middle age as he commutes with the wealthy. Imperialism defined as per Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the contemporary colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism such as Rudyard Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk, 2017). The poem reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached with a duty to spread Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they were primitive barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need guidance to change their way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European counterparts in colonial superiority and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of the land in the earth and they gained that status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres. In Amritsar, India s holy city of the Sikh religion, British and Gurkha troops massacre at least 379 unarmed demonstrators meeting at the Jallianwala Bagh, a city park (History.com). The man responsible for this monstrous event is Reginald Dyer, a British general. The actions of General Dyer were unjust because the crowd he shot upon was nothing more than peaceful, he gave us no warning to disperse; and after the incident, Dyer gave no medical attention or help to the wounded. I was lying on the ground relaxing with half an ear to what the protestors were saying when General Dyer approached the entrance of the garden. He was followed by what was said to be 50 armed British soldiers all holding rifles tightly in their hands. The commotion of the crowd slowly vanished as everyone stood up in surprise and peered at the soldiers. Without warning, Dyer ordered his troops to block the garden s only exit and fired into the defenseless crowd, which included many women and children (Grolier Online). I scrambled throughout the screaming crowd, desperately trying to find safety. People hid behind bodies on the ground, some jumped to their death down a well in the middle of the garden, and others were killed in the circling stampede. The soldiers fired for 10 to 15 minutes till their ammunition was exhausted. As the terrified crowd tried to escape, they fell to the 1,650 bullets that were fired (Saha). I rushed to find safety behind a tree where I stayed, waiting and praying that the firing would cease. My ears ached at the screams and cries and my eyes cringed at the gruesome sights. Yet Dyer was interested more in the technique of his soldiers than in the human tragedy unfolding less than 50 ft. in front of him (Source 5). Folashade Oloniyo Abstract In this essay, the characteristics of a counsellor and a friend will be expanded upon in order to gain a greater knowledge for deciphering the two. We all have been in situations where we hit a brick wall in our life and are unsure of the next step or the next move to make. We have close friends to whom we can turn and reach out to, but in some situations, are they really our best option for help? Her actions were so silly and desperate and completely opposite to how I would have acted. It is quite an old house, however there were a few additions added. My mom pulled into the parking lot of a driveway and started taking food out of the trunk and bringing it into the house. I could have helped her, but instead I decided that I wanted to bring my luggage in and put it in the room that was assigned for me. I jogged back down the stairs and was greeted by my uncle s girlfriend, Sandy. Sandy is a wonderful, gentle, and kind woman who happens to be a good baker. • 27. Resurrection In Charles Dicken s A Tale Of Two Cities The concept of resurrection has always been an alluring subject in all cultures. Some believe this can be achieved through purification and repentance. Throughout the book, situations arise in which characters allude to rising again in a new life. The reader sees to what length people will go to bring about improvement in a beloved s life, or to achieve a much desired afterlife of one s own. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities, the idea of resurrection plays a huge role in the lives of many characters, including Dr. Manette, Sydney Carton, and Jerry Cruncher; the theme also adds to Dickens s message by illustrating the importance of love, morality, and faith. One very significant example is of Dr. Manette, who originally was traumatized as a result of his unfair imprisonment but eventually is recalled to life (Dickens 13). While Dr. Manette was in jail, he grappled exhaustingly every day trying to deal with his deteriorating mental state. His time spent in the Bastille is compared to him being buried alive for this reason; it was so inhumane and cruel that he felt dead. Dr. Manette was essentially being brought back to life with his release from prison. However, Dr. Manette s rebirth has just begun and does not become complete until he is reunited with his daughter (Dingyuan and Xiaohua 91). Targeting networks is a system where the government tracks the pirates in Somalia and tracks everything they do to make sure they don t go back onto the waters. This is similar to the way that the United States combats organized crime. Authorities would monitor bank accounts, engage in direct and electronic surveillance, and aggressively pursue frequent offenders (Thomas). The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons for taking on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons may greatly differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson s reason of standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for defining words, Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted certain words to be spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his criticism and witty remarks towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s dictionary is filled with facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous definition of oats is offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The way he chose to define the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless and inferior, but also that Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English Language.
