Creative Caring Kids –
room 6
What could we do to
make our school
more beautiful?
Our first thoughts were…
Pick up the leaves – Charles
Do more paintings – Lewis
Paint the big kids playground – Sammy
Paint the little kids school, walls and stuff – Lily
Pick up the rubbish – Zayden
Make a real big castle outside – Carson
Chop off the tress – Hauraki
Water all the flowers and tress – Charlize
Build a rocket ship and take turns – Noah
Spray the walls with paint, like graffiti – Aalyiah
Paint rainbow colours outside – Amina
Then we went for a walk outside to have a look.
We found lots of things we liked and loads
of areas we thought could do with some
beautification.
We love these
pavers.
We liked the big
rocks.
These plants look
lovely.
These fences look ugly.
The grass has been
worn away near the
hall – we could put
in totem poles?
Why is this area out of bounds? Could
we not fence off an area for the
children?
This looks ugly!
We would like to make this area
look more magic (totem poles?)
This would be a great idea of sunken
tyres to play on.
A fence would go really nice here to
stop the balls going into the cars.
Ouch, this could be dangerous if we catch This looks like a jail.
ourselves on this rusty metal.
Pot holes are
dangerous.
We would like to
paint this.
This wall would look lovely with a
pretty painted picture or chalk
boards.
This wall would look lovely with a
pretty painted picture or chalk
boards..
We love these signs.
Could we please get these fixed?
Could we paint the poles different
colours?
TChoiusl dw athlli sw boeu lmd oloreo kb leoavuetliyf uwl?ith a
pretty painted picture.
Beautiful.
We think tiles down the side
would look nice?
These edges could do with a tidy
up.
Painting the wall would make our
classrooms look more exciting.
The poles would look great with
snakes going up them.
It would be nice to have a fresh
coat of paint on the pictures.
Could we have games painted on
the ground?
This looks beautiful.
We found lots of rubbish at centre
stage.
We love these pavers but looks
like we need a few more here.
Then we had another talk about
ways to beautify the school and we
did some research on the internet.
We have come up with loads of
exciting ideas now. We hope you
like some of them.
We think these would look nice on
the back of the junior block.
We would love these on the walls
outside the side of room 3.
We could make mobiles and hang
them high in the trees.
Stepping stones and tyres outside
the back of room 3 would be a great
adventure for us.
We have some designs in mind to thread in
to the fences outside our rooms.
This looks so exciting, could we find an area
to build a stage or at least paint the
background?
We could decorate and attach to the
fence or make mobiles.
Could we talk to the council about
painting our bins?
There’s that tyre idea again.
We have plain brick under our
windows, could we liven them up?
Corrugated iron pictures on the
walls.
Mobiles in the trees
These totem poles would look great oustide the
side of the hall and on the verges to stop the kids
running and ruining the grass.
Bottle top art around the school.
Tin can totem poles look awesome.
Mosaic ply wood.
Drums to plant flowers.
Mobile ideas for the trees.
Next we talked about what materials
we would need to get these projects
done. We helped Miss Edwards
write a ‘wanted’ list to the parents
asking for donations. But before we
send that off, we have to send this
off to Miss Joplin to find out which
of the projects we are allowed to do.
In our topic this term room 5 & 6 are being ‘Creative Caring Kids!’ Our aim is to identify areas
outside the junior block that we could beautify as a syndicate project.
We have had lots of great ideas already and now we need to get the materials to help us achieve
our goals.
Do you have any of the following you could donate to use please?
Pallets Old spoons
Beads, jewellery (for threading) Wire, all sizes
Old tyres Wooden posts to use for stepping stones
Blackboard paint Ply wood or similar
Rocks (size of children’s head. Outdoor paint, all colours
Undercoat Old CD’s ? DVD’s
Gems etc for collage ($2 shop) Glitter, googly eyes, pipe cleaners etc
Long wooden posts for totem poles Corrugated sheets to paint pictures on
Mosaic tiles Old tin cans, clean please
Bottle tops/plastic lids Large drums for plating plants in
Ribbon, wool, buttons, string Shells and driftwood
Plants and bulbs Long rolls of plastic (like the police ribbon for
crime scenes.
concrete Nails and hammers ( hammers to will be
returned)
Sawdust and old pantyhose Flax plants
Scrap material
Any donations would be gratefully received. Please check with the class teachers before delivery of the larger
items as we will need to organise storage.
We will also be asking for lots of parent help, especially with cutting of ply and jigsaw work. Please let you class
teacher know if you can volunteer to help.
Thank you in advance
Carolyn and Sandy
On a separate note, do you have any old clothes you can donate to our classes for children to use in case of
an accident? We are looking for underwear, shorts and skirts. Thank you.
We showed our presentation to Miss Joplin and she liked all
of our ideas.
She said she would ask Graham to build the bridge for us –
exciting!!
We have to take photos of
where we would like the
playground to go and do a
design for it.
Here are some photos of possible
bridge ideas and tyre playgrounds.

Room 6 made an appointment to go and see the PTA to show them our ideas.
Carson and Noah did the speaking for us. We told them we would love to have
the playground pictures re-painted and also have a stage area made for us to
perform in. “Can we please have some money?”
Wow – we got a mention in the newsletter.
Miss Joplin took us
outside to start
looking at the layout
of our proposed tyre
park.
Next step was to measure the area for the proposed tyre
playground and come up with some designs. So off we
went to do this.
Next we drew our designs.
Hall
Walkway
This is our
proposed
area.

In the meantime we got on with making items in
the classroom to beautify both inside and outside
of the school.
• Paper Mache hot air balloons.
• Mobile made from shells, pumice, beads and
driftwood.
• Tin can people.
• Painting the outside of our classroom with the
book, Stomp.

Creative Caring Kids - School Beautification Project

  • 1. Creative Caring Kids – room 6 What could we do to make our school more beautiful?
  • 2. Our first thoughts were… Pick up the leaves – Charles Do more paintings – Lewis Paint the big kids playground – Sammy Paint the little kids school, walls and stuff – Lily Pick up the rubbish – Zayden Make a real big castle outside – Carson Chop off the tress – Hauraki Water all the flowers and tress – Charlize Build a rocket ship and take turns – Noah Spray the walls with paint, like graffiti – Aalyiah Paint rainbow colours outside – Amina Then we went for a walk outside to have a look.
  • 3. We found lots of things we liked and loads of areas we thought could do with some beautification. We love these pavers. We liked the big rocks. These plants look lovely. These fences look ugly.
  • 4. The grass has been worn away near the hall – we could put in totem poles? Why is this area out of bounds? Could we not fence off an area for the children? This looks ugly! We would like to make this area look more magic (totem poles?)
  • 5. This would be a great idea of sunken tyres to play on. A fence would go really nice here to stop the balls going into the cars. Ouch, this could be dangerous if we catch This looks like a jail. ourselves on this rusty metal.
  • 6. Pot holes are dangerous. We would like to paint this. This wall would look lovely with a pretty painted picture or chalk boards. This wall would look lovely with a pretty painted picture or chalk boards..
  • 7. We love these signs. Could we please get these fixed? Could we paint the poles different colours? TChoiusl dw athlli sw boeu lmd oloreo kb leoavuetliyf uwl?ith a pretty painted picture.
  • 8. Beautiful. We think tiles down the side would look nice? These edges could do with a tidy up. Painting the wall would make our classrooms look more exciting.
  • 9. The poles would look great with snakes going up them. It would be nice to have a fresh coat of paint on the pictures. Could we have games painted on the ground?
  • 10. This looks beautiful. We found lots of rubbish at centre stage. We love these pavers but looks like we need a few more here.
  • 11. Then we had another talk about ways to beautify the school and we did some research on the internet. We have come up with loads of exciting ideas now. We hope you like some of them.
  • 12. We think these would look nice on the back of the junior block. We would love these on the walls outside the side of room 3. We could make mobiles and hang them high in the trees. Stepping stones and tyres outside the back of room 3 would be a great adventure for us.
  • 13. We have some designs in mind to thread in to the fences outside our rooms.
  • 14. This looks so exciting, could we find an area to build a stage or at least paint the background? We could decorate and attach to the fence or make mobiles. Could we talk to the council about painting our bins?
  • 15. There’s that tyre idea again. We have plain brick under our windows, could we liven them up?
  • 16. Corrugated iron pictures on the walls. Mobiles in the trees These totem poles would look great oustide the side of the hall and on the verges to stop the kids running and ruining the grass.
  • 17. Bottle top art around the school. Tin can totem poles look awesome. Mosaic ply wood.
  • 18. Drums to plant flowers. Mobile ideas for the trees.
  • 19. Next we talked about what materials we would need to get these projects done. We helped Miss Edwards write a ‘wanted’ list to the parents asking for donations. But before we send that off, we have to send this off to Miss Joplin to find out which of the projects we are allowed to do.
  • 20. In our topic this term room 5 & 6 are being ‘Creative Caring Kids!’ Our aim is to identify areas outside the junior block that we could beautify as a syndicate project. We have had lots of great ideas already and now we need to get the materials to help us achieve our goals. Do you have any of the following you could donate to use please? Pallets Old spoons Beads, jewellery (for threading) Wire, all sizes Old tyres Wooden posts to use for stepping stones Blackboard paint Ply wood or similar Rocks (size of children’s head. Outdoor paint, all colours Undercoat Old CD’s ? DVD’s Gems etc for collage ($2 shop) Glitter, googly eyes, pipe cleaners etc Long wooden posts for totem poles Corrugated sheets to paint pictures on Mosaic tiles Old tin cans, clean please Bottle tops/plastic lids Large drums for plating plants in Ribbon, wool, buttons, string Shells and driftwood Plants and bulbs Long rolls of plastic (like the police ribbon for crime scenes. concrete Nails and hammers ( hammers to will be returned) Sawdust and old pantyhose Flax plants Scrap material Any donations would be gratefully received. Please check with the class teachers before delivery of the larger items as we will need to organise storage. We will also be asking for lots of parent help, especially with cutting of ply and jigsaw work. Please let you class teacher know if you can volunteer to help. Thank you in advance Carolyn and Sandy On a separate note, do you have any old clothes you can donate to our classes for children to use in case of an accident? We are looking for underwear, shorts and skirts. Thank you.
  • 21. We showed our presentation to Miss Joplin and she liked all of our ideas. She said she would ask Graham to build the bridge for us – exciting!!
  • 22.
  • 23. We have to take photos of where we would like the playground to go and do a design for it.
  • 24. Here are some photos of possible bridge ideas and tyre playgrounds.
  • 25.

  • 30.
  • 31. Room 6 made an appointment to go and see the PTA to show them our ideas. Carson and Noah did the speaking for us. We told them we would love to have the playground pictures re-painted and also have a stage area made for us to perform in. “Can we please have some money?”
  • 32.
  • 33. Wow – we got a mention in the newsletter.
  • 34. Miss Joplin took us outside to start looking at the layout of our proposed tyre park.
  • 35. Next step was to measure the area for the proposed tyre playground and come up with some designs. So off we went to do this.
