Good data stewardship is the cornerstone of knowledge, discovery, and innovation in research. The FAIR Data Principles address data creators, stewards, software engineers, publishers, and others to promote maximum use of research data. The principles can be used as a framework for fostering and extending research data services.
This talk will provide an overview of the FAIR principles and the drivers behind their development by a broad community of international stakeholders. We will explore a range of topics related to putting FAIR data into practice, including how and where data can be described, stored, and made discoverable (e.g., data repositories, metadata); methods for identifying and citing data; interoperability of (meta)data; best-practice examples; and tips for enabling data reuse (e.g., data licensing). Practical examples of how FAIR is applied will be provided along the way.

Search Solutions 2011: Successful Enterprise Search By DesignMarianne Sweeny
When your colleagues say they want Google, they don’t mean the Google Search Appliance. They mean the Google Search user experience: pervasive, expedient and delivering the information that they need. Successful enterprise search does not start with the application features, is not part of the information architecture, does not come from a controlled vocabulary and does not emerge on its own from the developers. It requires enterprise-specific data mining, enterprise-specific user-centered design and fine tuning to turn “search sucks” into search success within the firewall. This presentation looks at action items, tools and deliverables for Discovery, Planning, Design and Post Launch phases of an enterprise search deployment.
Challenging Problems for Scalable Mining of Heterogeneous Social and Informat...BigMine
In today’s interconnected real world, social and informational entities are interconnected, forming gigantic, interconnected, integrated social and information networks. By structuring these data objects into multiple types, such networks become semi-structured heterogeneous social and information networks. Most real world applications that handle big data, including interconnected social media and social networks, medical information systems, online e-commerce systems, or database systems, can be structured into typed, heterogeneous social and information networks. For example, in a medical care network, objects of multiple types, such as patients, doctors, diseases, medication, and links such as visits, diagnosis, and treatments are intertwined together, providing rich information and forming heterogeneous information networks. Effective analysis of large-scale heterogeneous social and information networks poses an interesting but critical challenge.
In this talk, we present a set of data mining scenarios in heterogeneous social and information networks and show that mining typed, heterogeneous networks is a new and promising research frontier in data mining research. However, such mining may raise some serious challenging problems on scalability computation. We identify a set of problems on scalable computation and calls for serious studies on such problems. This includes how to efficiently computation for (1) meta path-based similarity search, (2) rank-based clustering, (3) rank-based classification, (4) meta path-based link/relationship prediction, and (5) topical hierarchies from heterogeneous information networks. We introduce some recent efforts, discuss the trade-offs between query-independent pre-computation vs. query-dependent online computation, and point out some promising research directions.

What is the current status quo of the Semantic Web as first mentioned by Tim Berners Lee in 2001?
Not only 10 blue links can drive you traffic anymore, Google has added many so called Knowlegde cards and panels to answer the specific informational need of their users. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t. If you ask for information, Google will try to answer it within the result pages.
I'll share my research from a theoretical point of view through exploring patents and papers, and actual testing cases in the live indices of Google. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
