The document summarizes Johan Cruyff's positional game philosophy. It states that players without the ball should seek good positions to provide the ball carrier with 2-3 passing options. These players should give space to the ball carrier while maintaining sightlines and not giving their back to teammates. An exercise is described where outside players pass the ball amongst themselves while inside players try to regain possession.
This document discusses strategies for beating defensive blocks. It defines the block as having 9-10 players behind the ball in the defensive and midfield thirds. To beat the block, teams must retain possession, switch play quickly to expose gaps, and attack the spaces around and behind the block with overlaps, combinations, and runs in behind. Playing into the feet of runners in the holes between lines or combining short passes to penetrate through the block are effective tactics. Accuracy is essential to bypass a packed defense.
This document provides an in-depth summary of Manchester City's tactics and system of play under manager Pep Guardiola. Some key points:
- City builds up play from the back using a three-man line of defenders and midfielders. They look to progress the ball between the lines to attacking players.
- In attack, City uses positional rotations and player movements to break through opponent lines or exploit space in behind defenses.
- Their pressing depends on the opponent's formation but the aim is to win the ball back quickly on turnover.
- Guardiola emphasizes positional discipline and having players who can pass and move well under his tiki-taka style.
This document provides 15 soccer passing drills to improve players' technical skills like passing, receiving, ball control, and teamwork. The drills include one touch passing in squares and triangles, wall passing, and combinations in Y shapes with multiple players. They range from basic drills to more advanced exercises involving deep runs and coordination between groups. Coaching points emphasize accuracy, communication, and using both feet. The drills can be adapted for various age groups.
The document provides information about training sessions observed at two Italian Serie A clubs: AC Siena and Genoa FC. At Siena, sessions focused on attacking patterns, possession, and conditioning. Drills worked on overlapping runs and crossing. At Genoa, sessions included technique work, attacking patterns, strength training, and friendly matches. The training emphasized quick passing, defensive shape and positioning, and regaining possession without tackling.
1. The document discusses how to play an attacking game by defending in the opponent's field through creating pressure, maintaining close distances between players, and establishing multiple lines of players.
2. It emphasizes the importance of positional play, with players staying close together to facilitate passing combinations and defend against opponents' transitions.
3. The text provides examples of building attacks from the goalkeeper or lateral players, with options for passing sequences and player movements to create space and scoring chances.

This document contains instructions for 50 small-sided games involving association football/soccer drills and practices. The drills are divided into 3 categories: Sending & Receiving, Traveling, and Striking & Fielding. Each drill provides the game organization, coaching points, and tips to make the drill easier or more difficult. The goal is to help players learn techniques like control, passing, dribbling, and shooting in a fun, modified game format.
This document provides an overview of the 1-4-4 (diamond) midfield formation. It begins with an introduction and then discusses the benefits and advantages of the formation, such as central midfield domination and catering for teams with a surplus of midfield players. Potential disadvantages are also outlined, like being susceptible to quick switches of play. The document then provides examples of teams that use the formation and quotes from managers. It concludes with practical sessions to train the tactical concepts of the formation, including defending, attacking, and playing through the thirds.

This document provides guidance on pressing as a team in a 4-2-3-1 formation. It outlines that when the ball is lost, the nearest player should try to slow down the opposition and buy time for teammates to drop into their defensive shape. The team should stay compact and keep the ball in front of them. They should look for the "trigger", which is the first pass where pressure can be applied, to press as a unit and try to regain possession. It also cautions about potential problems if the press is not coordinated and provides key points on defensive positioning and shape depending on game state and characteristics.

Here are some key points about how the four topics would influence the design of Stage IV (The Game):
- Physical Environment: Size of field should match the development stage of the athletes and objectives of training. For U9-U12, a smaller-sided field is appropriate.
- Game/Activity Rules: Rules should focus on learning objectives and be simple/clear for the age. For U9-U12, limit rules to essentials like offside.
- Objectives of Training: The game should allow players to apply techniques/tactics practiced in Stages I-III. Objectives may include dribbling to beat opponents or passing combinations.
- Development Stage of Athletes: The game
1) Organização ofensiva, com ênfase na construção de jogo, criação e finalização;
2) Organização defensiva, com destaque para a pressão alta e transição defensiva;
3) Pontos fortes e fracos da equipe.
The document discusses models of game used at different levels of soccer. At the professional level, the model of game is team-centered and aims to win games. At the youth level, the model should be player-centered and used as a tool to develop players' potential, not just win games. An effective model of game incorporates tactical principles for different moments and phases, playing systems tailored to player development, and emphasis on individual tactical functions over early specialization. The training model should integrate tactical, technical, and physical periodization to optimize player development.
Pressing is a collective defensive tactic aimed at disrupting the opposition's build-up play and regaining possession as high up the field as possible. It requires pressure on the ball carrier to deny time and passing options, as well as cutting off forward passing lanes and forcing lateral or backward passes. Effective pressing relies on predefined pressing zones and triggers, as well as compactness, communication, and limiting the opposition's playing options. The type of pressing employed depends on the team's style of play and player attributes.

The document provides coaching guidelines for playing style, organization, and tactics. It emphasizes a possession-based style with collective build-up and individual creativity in the final third. Defensively, it advocates zonal marking with compactness and communication. The transition between attack and defense should be immediate, either continuing the attack or removing the ball from pressure.
1. The document provides instructions for a series of soccer drills focusing on ball movement, player movement, receiving passes, turning, beating defenders, and shooting.
2. The drills progress from basic warm-ups and passing to more advanced scenarios involving receiving passes with defenders pressuring, using moves like the Maradona to beat defenders, and taking shots on goal.
3. Key points are emphasized for each drill, including techniques for receiving passes, using body feints and changes of direction to beat defenders, shielding the ball from pressure, and finishing shots accurately and quickly before defenders can recover.
The document outlines a series of small-sided games designed to train players in one-touch football. The games involve different numbers of players and field sizes and focus on developing passing, movement, possession, and transition between defense and offense. The goal is to facilitate ball possession and have players experience match-like situations while training in their regular positions.

This drill teaches players how to play precise defense-splitting passes like Xavi. The drill involves a defender dribbling around cones to pick up the ball and drive at defenders before passing to an attacker in the end zone, who must knock a ball off a cone with a pass without shooting. Recreating pressure situations helps players perfect the ability to pick up the ball, drive, and play a killer pass at speed to break down defenses. The drill is designed to help players reproduce these skills in matches.
This document outlines a soccer training session with the objectives of improving sectoral and intersectoral play between defensive, midfield, and offensive lines. It includes 4 drills:
1) Passing drill between pairs to work on ball circulation and positional play.
2) Two sectoral drills (2A and 2B) to practice defensive and offensive roles within lines.
3) Intersectoral drill linking midfield and offense, working on creating space and defensive positioning.
4) Final integrated drill with teams of 7 to apply concepts from previous drills under match-like conditions.
This document provides instructions for a soccer dribbling drill called "Iniesta's Dribbling". The drill is designed to improve a player's control with both left and right feet. Players are divided into four groups and take turns dribbling across a 15 by 15 yard area, performing moves like push and pull with both feet. Mastering this drill will help players have more two-footed control like Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta rather than relying on just one foot. Being able to use both feet allows players to escape defenders instantly.

The main goal of this study was to verify the evolution of VO2peak and in the distance covered in the YYIRT1 in university students, being appealed 2 types of training were applied: i) interval running training 4 x 3' with 3' of recovery between series during 4 weeks; ii) small-sided games 4 x 3' with 3' of recovery. Data was collected from 7 university students (n = 7), that executed the YYIRT1 before the application of the interval training protocol during 4 weeks. They executed the YYIRT1 again and initiated a new period of 4 weeks with resort to small-sided games of 4 x 4 with the dynamics of the load for the interval training. Finally they repeated the YYIRT1 to verify the evolution of the variables. We did not find any statistically significant differences in VO2peak (P < 0.05) and in the distance covered. We observed significant statistical differences between T13 and T23 (P < 0.05). The results show that the interval training and the small-sided games allowed an improvement in the covered distance in the YYIRT1 at the end of 8 weeks and that there was a greater efficacy in the systems involved in the fixation, transportation and utilization of the O2 (VO2peak maintenance and improvement of the covered distance). KEY-WORDS: distance covered, small-sided games, interval training, VO2max VO2peak, YYIRT1.
This drill teaches players to control the ball and spin away from defenders like Andres Iniesta. The drill is set up with groups of players in each corner of a 20x20 yard square, with a cone in the center. One player passes to another who meets the ball before the cone, spins around it to face the opposite corner, and passes back - all in a fluid motion. Doing this drill improves one's ability to receive and turn with the ball even under pressure from a defender.

Filed hockey passing building blocks_and_principlesDerek Pappas
Building an effective passing game requires players to have an understanding of basic passing patterns that are practiced regularly. The objective of passing depends on the area of the field, with defensive passing looking to advance the ball up the pitch without losing possession, midfield passing aiming to retain the ball while searching for chances, and attacking passing seeking to create shots. A passing game also needs to be able to change tempo according to the phase of the match. Advanced passing combines basic building blocks like triangles and circles into more complex patterns designed to control possession and progress the ball forward. The best teams employ principles such as attacking space and maintaining passing lanes.
This document outlines a 10 week training program for under 10 and 11 year old soccer players with Balmain DFC. It describes the structure of typical 1 hour training sessions which include technique games, tactical games, and matches. It provides details on 5 games to be included in each weekly session, such as dribbling and passing drills, small sided games, and standard matches. The document serves as a framework for coaches to develop players' technical skills and tactical understanding through fun and engaging practice activities.
This document summarizes the key positions, equipment, and rules of basketball and netball. In basketball, five players per team occupy positions like point guard, center, and forwards to score by throwing the ball through the opposing team's hoop. Netball is similar but played with seven players per team who score by passing the ball through the opponent's goal. Both sports involve a court, ball, and hoops with nets.
The document outlines a 10 week training program for under 8 and 9 year old soccer players at Balmain DFC. Each weekly session follows the same structure: Game 1 focuses on individual technique; Games 2-3 are small-sided games for tactical development; Game 4 is a standard match applying skills from earlier games. Drills include dribbling, passing, defending and shooting. Coaches are encouraged to emphasize teamwork, skill development and fun over competition.
1) The document outlines 4 phases of soccer: possession, losing the ball (transition), opposition in possession, and winning the ball (transition). It discusses tactics for each phase with a focus on transitioning smoothly between offense and defense.
2) Exercises are presented to train players ages 12-16 on transitioning quickly after losing or gaining possession, including small-sided games emphasizing playing the ball forward.

Two years ago, Kevin De Bruyne plunged Belgium’s Euro 2024 plans into disorder when he claimed the team was “too old” to win in an interview with The Protector. That Belgian squad had 10 players over 30 and the maximum average age of any Euro Cup 2024 team at the competition. A group-stage exit and just one goal at the World Cup put Belgium on course for a restructure.

Still, younger actors like De Bruyne’s Manchester City partner Jeremy Doku bring fresh vitality to the team. Euro Cup Germany Qualifying unbeaten with just four goals allowed from eight games was a welcome sign of accomplishment back on track under Tedesco.

Creating behaviors in respect to the coach game model
1. Creating behaviors in respect to the coach game model: an example of drills that can be used
Note: Every one of these drills can be used to develop a different moment of the football game, depending on the focus the coach gives to the drill with rules, feedbacks, space, etc.
Vítor Marreco de Gouveia
The main idea is to create specific contexts to introduce, develop and work on some game principles, with respect to the principle moments of the GAME.
Attacking
To manage ball possession without loosing the objectivity
and the progression towards the opposite goal
Transitioning
To take advantage of the temporary disorganization in these
moments
Defending
To reduce spaces of progression and ball carrier initiative,
with resource to zonal defending (more or less aggressive)
