Objectives
To create routines in offensive transitions, trying to explore as
fast as possible in depth game. To work on zonal defending
and conditioning to the ball carrier.
1) Warm-up– 21 min.
6 min. of general activation: groups of 5/6 must keep the ball on the air;
2 touches are mandatory and they can’t use the tight or the head.
3 min. General mobilization – shoulders and trunk rotation movements,
displacements (backwards, sideways, etc.).
4 min. Specific warm-up: skipping; skipping + sprint and sprints with
changes of direction + dynamic stretching + coordination ladder.
8 min. Transition rondos: ball possession and search for vertical
passing lines + coordination ladder
Coaching points.
Offensively: to work on ball possession in small spaces: positional issues
(oriented with the ball carrier and open options by the orientation of the
feet); to create space to play in depth: fast ball circulation, orientation to
the depth, fast vertical pass when there is an open in the opponents
defense. Defensively, we want to work on the role of 1st defender:
aggressive reacting to the ball movement, change of behavior (defensive
cover) when the other colleague is nearer the ball; and the role of 2nd
defender in defensive cover and closing spaces between them.
2) Offensive transition, exploring the speed of the wingers – 8 min
Coaching points
Offensively – To improve offensive transition trying to play in depth after
gain ball possession: look far to search possible offensive passing lines
to explore opponent’s temporary disorganization or to play wide when
they don’t have a progression passing line. To create in the central area
by the midfielders, to link the 1st and 2nd phase of build up play:
interchange between movements of supports, progression or rupture to
create space to progression; use preferably diagonal passes to progress,
create space with a high speed of ball transmission to make a vertical
pass.
Defensively – To work on group behaviors of a defensive line with 3/4
men’s: the nearest defender to the ball reduces space, reacting
aggressively to the ball displacement; positional adjustment of the other
defenders to cover the “strong side” and the central corridor (2nd defender
provides defensive cover and 3rd defender provides balance. The block
stays low, but is sharp to understand the right moment of pressure: back
pass, player with ball with his “back turned” away from the game, ball of
difficult reception.

RULES
- Players organized in groups of 2 with 1 or 2 jokers, divided by the
2 squares. The ball starts in one square with a situation of 4+1x2,
the goal of the attacker is to complete 8 passes (playing with 1
touch) and perform the transition of the ball to the other square.
The team in the middle must win the ball possession and when
they do that, the team which lost the ball enters defending in the
other square.
The game starts in the middle with 3 reds (midfielders+ forwards) vs. 4
blue (defenders). The red teams search opportunities to score in the
mini-goals and reds must get the ball and perform a fast transition to
the free space where the greens (wingers and forwards) create a
finalization situation of 2x0.

2
The game takes place in the last 3rd of the pitch. The blue team can put 3
men on the restricted area (CD’s + DM) to work on the 1st stage of the
build-up play. The red team can explore the space in the back and create
a situation of 3x2.

3) Offensive transition, exploring the speed of the wingers – 10 min
This is progression of the previous drill, where the reds and the blue
players switch sides. We also include a striker (ST) in the middle to the
transition. The transition pass will be performed by the reds and they will
have one more passing option to the ST. After the ball enters the space
in the back of the defense, 2 blue players can defend the goal and so we
create a situation of 3x2
Coaching points
Offensively – To work on the role of the ST on offensive transitions: to act
as frontal support when the pass is directed to him or to contribute to the
occupation of the 3 game corridors.
4) GR+10x10+GR plus frontal support of the ST with offensive
transition– 25min.
Coaching points
Offensively – To explore the wideness of the CD’s in the 1st stage of
build-up play, the depth of the full-back’s (FB). At the same time the
wingers appear in the central corridor to create internal passing lines and
to get free space to the FB’s. To work on the above mentioned issues on
offensive transitions.
Defensively – To work on zonal defending: fast action of the player near
the ball to reduce space and time of execution to the ball carrier;
successive defensive cover actions to reduce the space between lines; to
adapt constantly to the ball position, keeping the defensive organization.
To pressure in a high-block: conditioning of the ball carrier, make
difficult the pass to the back of the last defensive line; to work on
defensive recovery, as a mean to gain ball possession.
Load: 4x4min. Before the beginning of each repetition, the team which
plays like the team in blue, work on free-kicks and corners. The goals
scored will be the starting result in each match
