Positional Game by Johan CRUYFF
• Objective:
The player who conduct the ball must have 2 or 3
options to continue the play.
• Coaching Points:
  – Players without ball seeking “good” position;
  – Players without ball occupy the correct free spaces;
  – Sufficient move away from the ball carrier (do not
  congest the space around the carrier – give 2/3 steps
  away to release the carrier area);

  Note: Less difference between opponents (3v2; 4v3) and small
  areas, increase the difficulty level.

• Exercise Example:

       Description: The 12 outside players try to maintain ball possession for the much time
       they can. The 3 inside players try to recovery possession (1 attack the ball, while the
       other 2 do Defensive Coverage to close pass lines and press the receiver of the ball. The
       outside players must play 1 touch football (play with more efficiency and velocity).

• Conclusions:
  – All the players without the ball must move to
  positions where the carrier of the ball can see them from
  both angles;
  – If the carrier lose sight of the players without the ball
  must correct the situation doing extra steps to become
  visible to the carrier;
  – Do not give the back to the teammates;
  – Positioning in sight of the carrier and the ball;
  – The carrier must pass to the “good” leg of the receiver
  and must give the appropriate speed to the ball.
