The past 2 years have had a huge impact on organizations journeys to become data driven. Existing data architectures were disrupted; rigid structures and processes were questioned, and many data strategies were re-written.
On the one hand, the global pandemic emphasized the need for organizations to raise the bar, implement strategies, improve data literacy and culture, increase investments in data and analytics, and explore AI opportunities.
On the other, it also presented new challenges such as: the war for data talent and the wide literacy gap. Inadequate structures as well as outdated processes were exposed. Major changes in the data landscape (Data Fabric, Data Mesh, Transition to Data Clouds) will further disrupt existing data architectures and enhance the need for a new adaptive architecture and organization.

Improving Data Literacy Around Data ArchitectureDATAVERSITY
Data Literacy is an increasing concern, as organizations look to become more data-driven. As the rise of the citizen data scientist and self-service data analytics becomes increasingly common, the need for business users to understand core Data Management fundamentals is more important than ever. At the same time, technical roles need a strong foundation in Data Architecture principles and best practices. Join this webinar to understand the key components of Data Literacy, and practical ways to implement a Data Literacy program in your organization.
Data Modeling, Data Governance, & Data QualityDATAVERSITY
Data Governance is often referred to as the people, processes, and policies around data and information, and these aspects are critical to the success of any data governance implementation. But just as critical is the technical infrastructure that supports the diverse data environments that run the business. Data models can be the critical link between business definitions and rules and the technical data systems that support them. Without the valuable metadata these models provide, data governance often lacks the “teeth” to be applied in operational and reporting systems.
Join Donna Burbank and her guest, Nigel Turner, as they discuss how data models & metadata-driven data governance can be applied in your organization in order to achieve improved data quality.
This presentation was part of the IDS Webinar on Data Governance. It gives a brief overview of the history on Data Governance, describes how governing data has to be further developed in the era of business and data ecosystems, and outlines the contribution of the International Data Spaces Association on the topic.
Business Intelligence & Data Analytics– An Architected ApproachDATAVERSITY
Business intelligence (BI) and data analytics are increasing in popularity as more organizations are looking to become more data-driven. Many tools have powerful visualization techniques that can create dynamic displays of critical information. To ensure that the data displayed on these visualizations is accurate and timely, a strong Data Architecture is needed. Join this webinar to understand how to create a robust Data Architecture for BI and data analytics that takes both business and technology needs into consideration.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping business, and the time is ripe for companies to capitalise AI. The organisation can use AI to move their focus from discrete business problems to significant business challenges.
An organisation should use ML and Data Science to drive digital transformation for more back-office operational efficiency, better user/engagement, smoother onboarding, and better ROI by lowering cost and bring more data-driven taking mechanism for transparency.
AI will be a valuable, transformational change agent not only to the way business is done but to the way people live their daily lives if it isn't perceived as a plug-and-play technology with immediate returns but more like a long term solution to rewire the organisation.
We live in a data driven world. Our ability to generate and store data is increasing exponentially but, with data comes the need to analyse it and communicate it. Data stories such as infographics can bring facts to life, and is a way to simplify and help make sense and order out of a disparate collection of facts. Learn simple strategies to engage all students in authentic, integrated, inquiry learning which blends computational methods with digital graphics to visualise data in meaningful, interesting and more dynamic ways. See how you can engage your students in building effective stories from the hidden insights locked within the data they are exploring.

Creating a Data-Driven Organization, Crunchconf, October 2015Carl Anderson
What does it mean for an organization to be data-driven? How does an organization get there? Many organizations think that they are data-driven but the reality is that few genuinely are and that we could all do better. In this talk, I cover what it truly means to be data driven. The answer, it turns out, is not to do with the latest tools and technologies (although they can help) but having an appropriate data culture than spans the whole organization, where data is accessible broadly, embedded into operations and processes, and enables effective decision making. In this presentation, I dissect what an effective data-driven culture entails, covering facets such as data leadership, data literacy, and A/B testing, illustrating concepts with examples from different industries as well as personal experience.

Building a Data Strategy Your C-Suite Will SupportReid Colson
Being a data leader in any industry is an advantage that creates measurable financial benefits. Many studies have shown this – I’ve seen them from Bain, McKinsey, MIT and more. Since most firms are measured on profit, getting good at making data driven decisions is a key to being competitive. You can't get there without a plan. That is where a data strategy comes in.
In speaking with ~300 firms who indicated that their organizations were effective in using data and analytics, McKinsey found that construction of a data strategy was the number one contributing factor to their success. Being good at using data to drive decisions creates a meaningful profit advantage and those who are leaders indicated that the number one driver of their success was their data strategy.
This presentation will cover what a data strategy is, how to construct one, and how to get buy in from your executive team. The author is a former Fortune 500 Chief Data Officer and has held senior data roles at Capital One and Markel.

Data Integrity: From speed dating to lifelong partnershipPrecisely
Governance has little to do with governance…it’s about delivering and demonstrating value. It’s one thing for your colleagues to intellectually believe in the value of data, good data, and governed data, but it’s another thing entirely to have them emotionally engaged and excited to be involved. In this presentation from the CDO Sit-Down series, Shaun Connolly, Vice President of International Strategic Services, shares his thoughts and experience on approaches to win over reluctant leaders and business teams and describe the key components of successful programs.
Data Governance Strategies - With Great Power Comes Great AccountabilityDATAVERSITY
Much like project team management and home improvement, data governance sounds a lot simpler than it actually is. In a nutshell, data governance is the process by which an organization delegates responsibility and exercises control over mission-critical data assets. In practice, though, data governance directs how all other data management functions are performed, meaning that much of your data management strategy’s capacity to function at all depends on your effectiveness in governing its implementation. Understanding these aspects of governance is necessary to eliminate the ambiguity that often surrounds effective data management and stewardship programs, since the goal of governance is to manage the data that supports organizational strategy.
This webinar will:
-Illustrate what data governance functions are required for effective data management, how they fit with other data management disciplines, and why data governance can be tricky for many organizations
-Help you develop a detailed vocabulary and set of narratives to facilitate understanding of your business objectives and imperatives that demand governance
-Provide direction for selling data governance to organizational management as a specifically motivated initiative
Learn how you can drive your business forward with confidence by making decisions based on actionable insights gained from organizational data in real-time.
5 Steps to Transform into a Data-Driven Organization - Ganes Kesari - Gramen...Ganes Kesari
This session was presented on May 27th, 2021, in a Webinar organized by Gramener.
https://info.gramener.com/5-steps-to-transform-into-data-driven-organization
Session Details:
Today, organizations struggle to get value from data despite significant investments. Did you know that there's one factor that influences the outcomes of all your data initiatives?
This webinar will highlight how an organization's data maturity influences its performance. It will show how you can assess your data maturity and plan the five steps for data-driven business transformation.
Pain points we would be discussing:
Most organizations stagnate midway in their data journey.
Gartner says that over 87% of organizations in the industry are at lower levels of data maturity (levels 1 and 2 on a scale of 5).
Just doing more data science projects will not improve your capabilities or outcomes. The fact is that the top challenges reported by CDOs fall into five common areas.
This webinar will show what they are and how you can tackle them.
Who should attend
- Executives, Chief Data/Analytics Officers, Technology leaders, Business heads, Managers
What Will You Learn?
- What is data science maturity, and why does it matter?
- How do you assess data science maturity and limitations of the assessment?
- How can data science maturity help your organization level up (explained with an example)?
Data Driven Culture with Slalom's Director of AnalyticsPromotable
Everyone wants to capture the benefits of big data by making better data driven decision. We are inundated by analytical tools that deliver "insights" and process information quickly.
Although often overlooked, creating a data driven culture is as important as finding the right tools to make data driven decisions. Organizations who skip this foundational element often find their investment in Data tools and personal don't yield the benefits that becoming Data Driven is supposed to unlock.
In this talk you'll learn about why creating a Data Driven culture is vital to every organization and the starting point for ensuring your data strategy generates strong impact and ROI.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

In this talk, we illustrate how we easily leveraged Globus services to instrument the ACE research testbed at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility with flexible data and task orchestration capabilities.
Designing for Privacy in Amazon Web ServicesKrzysztofKkol1
Data privacy is one of the most critical issues that businesses face. This presentation shares insights on the principles and best practices for ensuring the resilience and security of your workload.
Drawing on a real-life project from the HR industry, the various challenges will be demonstrated: data protection, self-healing, business continuity, security, and transparency of data processing. This systematized approach allowed to create a secure AWS cloud infrastructure that not only met strict compliance rules but also exceeded the client's expectations.
First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.

9. Building Blocks for a Data-Driven Culture
LEADERSHIP TRUST COMMITMENT METRICS DATA LITERACY TRAINING
10. Leadership
“Embed data and analytics
into business strategy and
digital transformation by
creating a vision of a data-
driven enterprise,
quantifying and
communicating business
outcomes and fostering
business changes fueled by
data”
Gartner, “How to Craft a Modern,
Actionable Data and Analytics
Strategy That Delivers Business
Outcomes”
1 Building a data-driven culture starts at the very top of
your organization.
Leaders need to shift the mindset of the organization
to begin embracing data and alter the way everyone
approaches decision making.
• Actively using data daily.
• Make a point to ask for data prior to making
decisions to enforce data-driven decision making.
• Communicate KPIS through different channels
such as email, presentation, meetings etc.
• Set aside time for training yourself as an executive
to learn new data skills.
• Display metrics digitally through of office and
company webpages to keep data right at the
forefront.
11. Trust
“By 2020, 90% of corporate
strategies will explicitly
mention information as a
critical enterprise asset and
analytics as an essential
competency.”
- Gartner
2 Creating a single source of truth for your company will
allow you too:
• Eliminate any “he-said-she-said” – when data is all
being pull from the same location everyone is
looking at the same metrics.
• Spend less time hunting for data
• Enable employees who really know the business
and the data to instill trust in other that
information is accurate
• Expand insights across departments when
everyone has access and transparency.
• Create less work for your data administrator when
managing the organizational data is all in one
location
12. Commitment
“By 2022, more than half of
major new business systems
will incorporate continuous
intelligence that uses real-
time context data to
improve decisions.”
- Gartner
3 Creating a data-driven culture relies on long-term
commitment from everyone in the organization. This
initiative cannot be a set it and forget it process. To
ensure commitment long term:
• Ensure analytics tied back to critical business
efforts
• Keep data at the forefront of employee coaching
• Make sure team goals are always present for
gauging team performance
• Investing in AI technologies will keep data present
13. Metrics
(that Matter)
“Trying to force people to
conform their work to
preestablished numerical
goals tends to stifle
innovation and creativity—
valuable qualities in most
settings. And it almost
inevitably leads to a
valuation of short-term
goals over long-term
purposes.”
- Jerry Z. Muller, The Tyranny of
Metrics
4 Ensure your organization is fully equipped to changing the
culture to be data driven:
• Choose the right KPI’s to measure success
• Research and look at historical data to set realistic
goals
• Identify new technology needed for the organization
to access and analyze data
• Assign data administrators responsible for ensuring
accurate data and providing the proper access to the
organization
14. Data Literacy
“By 2023, data literacy will
become an explicit and
necessary driver of business
value, demonstrated by its
formal inclusion in over 80%
of data and analytics
strategies and change
management programs.”
- Gartner
5 Adjusting to working with data means changing the
way we operate in our day to day activities. This means
that people may not have the needed skills to be data-
driven out of the box.
Developing a data literacy plan across organizations
means:
• Ensuring employees understand what data means
• Read business charts and graphs
• Knowing how to use visualizations with data
• Be able to draw correct conclusions from reading
data and applying to visualizations
• Be able to recognize when data is being used to
mislead or when it promotes data bias
15. Training
“Every beginner possesses a
great potential to be an
expert in his or her chosen
field.”
― Lailah Gifty Akita, Think Great: Be
Great!
6 Data can only make an impact if its incorporated in
the decision-making process
• Training employees on “how” to get to data is
just the beginning
• How to turn that data into “actionable insight” is
the real goal
– What tools do you currently have or need to acquire?
– Is data readily available? REST API’s, Odata, direct
connections?
– Does my team understand data visualizations?
– Do we hire a data scientist or build from within?
– Can we do effective Data Storytelling?
Find key stakeholders in the business that have the
visibility and data mindset, give them data literacy
training and empower them to promote a data-
driven culture in your organization
16. Then … Why don’t we all
have a data-driven culture?
17. “He who
conquers
himself is the
mightiest
warrior.”
