Craig David's "Fill Me In" music video tells a story through its lyrics and visuals. [1] It depicts the artist sneaking into his girlfriend's house next door while her parents are away, as various attempts to be alone are interrupted. [2] Scenes show the couple stealing intimate moments at a nightclub as well. [3] The video effectively illustrates the song's lyrics and matches the genres of R&B and garage through its scenes, dance sequences, and portrayal of the artist and his girlfriend.
2. • The video I am analysing is Craig
David – Fill me in . I believe that I
video is directed by Max & Dania,
has Craig telling a story about
how he tried many times to
romance his girlfriend who lived
next door to him but each of his
attempts to be alone with his
girlfriend failed as his girlfriend's
parents always interrupted and
he had to hide before they left
again.
• The Genre the music belong to is
R&B / Two step garage. The
broad characteristics that the
genre has which is shown in the
video is of the people rapping in
the video and being in a night
club showing the underground
sort of atmosphere . Also the sort
of clothing the people are
wearing the music video connects
to the genre of music
3. • Secondly the lyrics : She phoned said, "hey
boy, come on right around“ are amplified 1:09
when the female is shown on the phone to the
intentional artist telling him to come over as
her parents are out . Her facial expression
shows that she is happy and she has
excitement for him to be on the phone and
also coming over to see her . Her facial
• The lyrics to the song being about the artist expression could also be the innocent side
checking up on the girl that lives next door while
her parents are out is shown throughout the music going away . Being ‘ The good girl gone bad ‘
video as the artist sneaks in and out . The video act. Her fiddling around also shows eagerness
shows that the girl he is sneaking around with
seems to be like a very posh and innocent this is of the phone call . The camera angle being
shown by the mise-en-scene, looking at the image
below you can tell that the she leaves with her mid-shot capturing the female and the surface
parents , they are very well off and wealthy this is top allows the viewer to concentrate on the
illustrated by the furniture in the kitchen everything
looks very high class and stylish. The parents are facial expression and her hand fiddling.
also well dressed being very formal . Having the
carema shot at a angle shows the sighting of the
well dressed parents kissing their daughter goodbye
and there high maintenance kitchen.
4. • Having a mid-shot showing the artist
place his jacket onto the female right
after he says “So I gave you my jacket
for you to hold
Told you to wear it cause you felt cold” .
The location shows that they are in a
sort of underground / nightclub venue
this connects with the genre of the
song being a garage and underground
genre . She is dressed as if she is going
to a party and his attire is urban but
formal . She looks as if she is enjoying
he time with the artist as she closes her
eyes while he places his jacket onto he
shoulders and stands behind her as if • In this close up shot we can clearly see
he is going to kiss her neck. two people that look like are having a
argument are debating over something.
The lyrics are actually “Why were you
creeping around late last night?
Why did I see two shadows moving in
your bedroom light?” I believe that this
lyric I well illustrated as you can see
that that father is questioning his
daughter about her where abouts . This
shot characterises the lyrics .
5. • The video does cut to the beat and changes with the
lyrics , on each event changed in the lyrics also changes
in the in video .
• The solo instrumental parts are illustrated in the video
differently throughout the whole song , starting by the
instrumental parts being in illustrated by a Dj mixing on
the turn tables. And secondly having the group of
dancers , dancing to the beats , doing a sort of brake
dance , I believe that the dancing fits into the music
video as it l;ooks as if it should be in the video also the
dance move as very quick so they keep up with the fast
pace/beat.
• The video changes pace with the music when it speeds
up and slows down this is shown when the artist is
explaining and elaborating the story within the song.
6. • There are many different close
ups of the artist in the music
video as he is the main star , as
well as singing he is part of the
acting .I believe the record
company are trying to sell this
track by putting out to a specific
audience being those who are
interested in garage and R&B
which Is a large audience allowing
the track to be viewed by both
targets . I think that the record
company has tried to sell this
track by making the music video
look very interesting by the story
and also having the video look
“glossy” . I believe that the image
of the artist is that he is urban
and underground by the way he is
portrayed and also the locations
in the video. I think that the video
does relate to previous videos of
Craig David , such as 7days and
walking away.
7. • I don’t believe that the artist is on
sexual display , but I believe that
the main female in the video is as
the way she is dressed , also her
facial expressions guide us to think
of her in a sexual manor. I believe
that she is portrayed in this way to
attract the audience to this music
video and to keep them interested
as she is attractive and the a
model look alike from what they
see in the media as the right way
to be in this day an age . Also the
way that the camera work has
been organized makes the scenes
of the couple look very secretive
and passionate being seductive
and engage the audience to watch
more of the sexualised display
before their eyes .In some of the
scenes the female is seen to be
wearing a short dress above her
knees .
