2. Film language
• The video uses a panning shot to open the video as it pans across to
show who's driving the car. They use a long-shot to show the car
being broken and how it is a remote area. The video is shot like it is a
film with the narrow screen. There are no extreme close ups only clos
ups to show us the singer when she is lip syncing mostly they use
mid-shots to tell the story of the characters. The transition
between scene are mostly going to the singer then cutting back to
couple being somewhere else. The video ends with a straight cut to
black.

• Gabrielle Aplin’s “Please Don't Say You Love Me” is a indie
pop music video there are many things that make this a
indie pop video.
• A key convention in the indie pop videos are narratives
with breaks in where they show the artist singing this is
similar to how pop video's are. For example in this video
the video starts with the male and the woman driving
through the country side and goes on to tell a story about
there relationship.
• An indie pop music video that also has a narrative with
breaks with where the singer is sing is 'Wings' by Birdy.
• A common convention in folk music videos is straight cuts
it this is used in this video at the end to reveal that
the character isn't in the car anymore.

• The colours are warm this is common for indie pop as it gives
a chilled vibe to the viewer, this colouring also goes with the
music its self.
• The clothes are not shown much as the video forces on how
the characters feel by showing there faces. The male
character wears are dark clothing. Where as the woman
wears light clothing and changes outfit in the video whereas
his stays the same. The clothing could be showing their
personality as the woman is happy and full of life whereas
the man is closed off.
• The settings is the natural this is common for indie
pop.

before” this is reflecting that the
character in the video doesn’t want to
rush there relationship like they have
done it the past.

can break” These lyrics are a
metaphor for the relationship in
the video as the relationship is
precious and it is falling apart.

goes with the story when another man
comes up to her then she realizes that
she is in love with the other man.

• There are lots of close ups on the artist face in the video. The close ups are to
show the emotion in the song and how the artist feels about it. The close ups
on the artist face are when she is lip syncing to the song they show her sitting
in the background of where the couple are.
• When they show her she isn't doing anything she is just looking into the
camera. This is not uncommon in indie pop videos, sometimes they are shown
playing instrument as well as lip syncing.

• The story in the video shows the main love interest getting annoyed
when another guy is watching his girlfriend. This shows the other
man objectifying the woman.
• Other then this when the main man looks at the female it is with
affection.

• "Please don't say you love me" is mostly a narrative video because
most of the video shows the story of the two characters relationship.
The story of the woman not being ready to say 'I love you' to the guy.
