In other words, in the normal novel, story is written arranged from cause, development, and

means that they are all in the same level and only scheduled by the point order. Otherwise, the
story of To Escape also can be analysis two spaces, which are external and internal space. The
external space is that story is told by first person narrators I and I talk about the story about my

Scalability at Youtube
Scalability at YouTube
Problems Youtube was facing
First of I will start talking about the problems they faced at YouTube was facing. YouTube has
faced a lot of problems in its life time so far and the main issues they faced were with scalability.
The main reason YouTube faced so many issues was due to its large and rapid growth, YouTube
went from a small website to a technology giant and large player in the IT industry practically
overnight. The solution to dealing with this large and sudden growth was to keep things simple,
by using simplicity this allowed YouTube to cope with the large growth. The simplicity approach
was used to conquer a lot of problems. Make it simple, look for the simplest solution to a problem,

At YouTube the use of pythonmakes doing this easier as the dynamic nature of python makes it
easier to do. In other words no matter how bad your API is you can stub or modify or decorate your
way out of a lot of problems .
Other scalability techniques used by YouTube would be to say that they cheated a little or to say
instead of data being correct it is approximate correctness. What is meant by cheating is that not all
of their servers are consistent at the same time a good example of this is that if a user writes a
comment on a video then instead deploying that comment to all servers in the network and keeping
all data consistent what they have done at YouTube is they done it so that the system does not have
to have globally worldwide consistent transactions. Meaning that when the a user rights a comment
on a video he/she sees that comment instantly however someone on the other side of the world may
not see that comment for a couple milliseconds, in other words the cheat. The data will be
consistent in the end, the comments are not financial transaction therefore it is essential that you
know when to cheat, for example if it was a financial transaction where a user is purchasing
something then it is not good enough for the data must be consistent. Another main part of the
cheating technique is knowing when to fake data, for example to say that The fastest function call

A Comparison Of The Pantheon And The Parthenon
Introduction
With just a quick glance at pictures taken from a distance of the front of the Pantheon and the
Parthenon, one might conclude that they are the same building or the same design. Both have eight
Greek inspired columns topped with metopes and a triangular pediment at the entry portico (front).
However, any other view and a closer look would reveal substantial differences. Even the condition
of the present buildings would indicate that the buildings are from very different times and, of
course, very different locations.
The Parthenon
The Parthenon is a Greek temple constructed in 447 BC. It was designed by the architect/artist
Phidias and commissioned by Perikles after the Peliponnesian War to worship the Greek goddess,
Athena. Reed (2005) The building is a classical Greek structure in the Doric order known as a

Wikipedia (2017a) The octastyle designation refers to the eight columns at each end of the
structure. The building ends also have a second row of six columns at the interior of the outer
columns. The interior is divided into two rooms by masonry walls with interior columns in each
room. The building was and is famous for its ornate sculpture on the surface of the temple along the
frieze and pediments as well as sculptures on the interior of the building, namely the
chryselephantine statue of Athena sculpted by Phidias. The building is also said to have been built in

registration in a semi urban settlement in Uasin Gishu Kenya. This is a descriptive cross
sectional survey conducted in a semi urban settlement in the Uasin Gishu of Kenya to determine
awareness, attitude and practice of birth and death registration. This is a descriptive cross
sectional survey. Three hundred and two heads of households were interviewed in houses
selected by systematic random sampling and birth registration certificate checked for children
below 11 years. The study showed that awareness of birth registration was high in the study
population and the major source of awareness is through government agencies and mass media
play very little role. The awareness of death registration is however very low. Out of the 217
(71.9%) households that had children below 11 years, total children below 11 years is 473
children, 354 (74.8%) of them had their births registered and only 202 (57.1%) had registration
certificate during the interview. Of the 209 households that recorded deaths in the household within
the last 10 years only 24 (11.8%) households reported registering deaths in the last 10 years. The

Immigrants In William Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation
America is a prime example of liberty that laid the foundation for multiculturalism. Ever since the
discovery of the new world, America has always been a melting pot as immigrants from all parts
of the world come to America. They come to seek a better life while inadvertently cultivating the
area around them. For an example, in the diary, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford, a
group of puritans who journey to the Americas struggle to survive during the cold and harsh winter.
Luckily, they meet an indian called Squanto, who readily teaches them survival skills and make
peace with hostile indians. Most immigrants don t immediately make a positive impact and are
shunned upon for their poor communication and lack of social norm. However, assimilation will
always eventually happen and is tenacious to America and will perpetuate as different cultures

When Squanto and other indians were captured and sent back to England, it made the tribes at
Plymouth hostile towards white foreigners (Bradford 355). The captured indians slowly adopted
English language and culture, and they eventually go back to Plymouth (351). When the chief
Samoset noticed that the pilgrims were there to cause no intended harm, he sent Squanto to
negotiate with them (362). Because Squanto was a fluent english speaker and understood where the
pilgrims are coming from, he brings back their stolen tools and invites them for a feast (366).
Squanto brought back to the English Community by paving the way to an impending colony that
influenced other founding of colonies. This shows assimilation because Squanto took in English
ideals and helped the pilgrims

The Cove, By Mark Monroe And Directed By Louis Psihoyos
Dogs are regarded as man s best friend, but in the sea, that title is claimed by dolphins. Humans
have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving
humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness,
dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by
Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual
carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown
that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for
still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations.
Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only
populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has
reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture,
the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows.
Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to
partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. The fishermen clarify that dolphins in
Japan are like cows in the U.S. Just as the U.S. businesses cultivate farm animal agriculture as a
food source, the Japanese do so too. Therefore, the Japanese fishermen are

Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales
Edgar Allan Poe s critique of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales states, that any author
who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself
uses (Poe). Poe s continued popularity prove his ability to write an entertaining story, but what
gives him the right to control another s work of art? He was, without a doubt, an arrogant
person, and believed his way was the only proper way to write. Many may not agree with his
theories on writing, or his need to make others abide by his rules, but there may be something to
his beliefs. His stories, like the The Tell Tale Heart , are packed with emotion and flow beautifully

pages long. This meets Poe s length requirement, because it can be read in one sitting. The story
also has a preconceived effect, or unity of effect, throughout. The Tell Tale Heart is a dark story
that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops
him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the
narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling
guilt for killing the old man. He starts to believe he can hear the man s heart through the
floorboards; The heartbeat gets louder and louder until the narrator can no longer take it. When the
police arrive, he turns himself in just to get away from the beating. With climax being the final
element, Poe has made sure The Tell Tale Heart has everything necessary to be considered a short

A Survey Of Theories Of International Migration
This literature review starts with a survey of theories of international migration, the emergence of
Filipino Labour Diaspora, focusing on the role of the Philippine state. Consequently, it examines
the role of Canadian state in attracting FLCMs to work as domestic workers in Canada. Lastly, it
examines the role of the market in perpetuating gender role and victimization in labor diaspora.
1.Theories of International Migration
Theories of international migration studies often neglect the role of the state that produces and
shape the process. Yet, politics and the states underlie much of the international migration
movements through immigration policies and institutionalized bureaucracy related to migration.
For instance, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, the state is integrated only when it deals with market expansion, political power or any other
capitalist interests of the government. Conversely, the social capital theory explains structural
links, such as the memberships gained from networks and social institutions both in countries of
origin and destination. Lastly, the theory of cumulative causation explains the personal, social and
economic changes, which migration brings to an individual and its community (Massey 1999).
Here the role of states is left behind or if it is mentioned, it one sidedly deals with receiving
countries.
2.Overseas Filipino Workers and the Role of the State
This section aims to trace the emergence of Filipino labour diaspora by relying on historical
analysis to understand the role of the state in fostering out migration to the Philippines. Milton
Esman defined diaspora as a minority ethnic group of migrant origin which maintains sentimental
or material links with its land of origin. Diaspora studies in the 1980s and 1990s surfaced as a
sociological approach to account for international migration and assimilation. Diasporas are
believed to not have assimilated into their host country, and consciously share a collective memory
because they formed an imagined community and a global village made possible by globalization.
James Clifford adds that diasporas maintain links to their homeland with the desire for eventual
return nurtured by a shared and an

Language And Culture In Ken Wiwa s Get Beyond Babel
Ken Wiwa presents several ideas pertaining to language and culture within his essay, Get Beyond
Babel. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language
to survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other
cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the
same as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the
people, not by the language.
Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other
languages. My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents
were both born in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been
around for over 2000 years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown.
The language of Tamil did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over
100 million people today continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old
English, was very different from modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a
language that has been able to thrive on its own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb
other dialects to survive. In fact, in South Asia, it is the other way around and dialects in Sri Lanka
must adopt the Tamil languageto stay relevant. The language of Tamil did not become extinct or
endangered because of the

Business Meeting Etiquette
Basic Meeting Etiquette
Abstract Meeting etiquette involves all participants and the leader having respect for each other.
Meetings should be purpose driven and focused. The leader establishes the direction and purpose
the listeners should be prepared to follow along or to provide inputs to that goal. By following
etiquette appropriate for the meeting setting, more resolutions may be accomplished in the allotted
time. In a perfect world, a group synergy may evolve to increase productivity.

Do not interrupt interaction between group members as long as it is productive. However, direct
away from counterproductive inputs or negativity. The first responsibility is to be organized.
The group Leader, the person scheduling the meeting, and expected to chair the group, should
provide communication in the form of an Email or memo. The contents should state why the
meeting is being held, potential discussion and brief agenda. This correspondence with a few
individuals along with group announcements of what is going on and when the meeting is will give
respect to the attendees and give them time to formulate any inputs that they may have to offer.
The group leader should continue to be an example of business etiquette by being on time for the
meeting. Not only on time, but arrive a little early for the meeting to set up and go over the
materials. To make sure one is well prepared for the meeting before the attendees start arriving.
This includes having all materials, power point presentation as well as all equipment needed for
the meeting. Running around at the last second to get things set up is impolite. Preparedness
demonstrates a respect of others. When a leader is ready and well prepared, the meeting will flow
well.
Additional aspects of preparation should include a prepared and perhaps revised written agenda

Dylan Thomas And The Poetry Of The 1940s
Further David Perkins asserts that: Dylan Thomas was too relentlessly melodious and rhetorical,
making the fifties poets all the more conscious of the morality of plainness. Moreover they could
not recognize their world in the clichГ©s of Thomas Fern Hill or Under Milk Wood , and thus
they were motivated all the more toward an honest realism. That Thomas archetypal symbols
seemed vague and obscure to the point of self indulgence impelled them with stronger conviction
toward lucid, rational discourse (Perkins 423).
In Purity of Diction in English Verse, Davie says of the Movement that: it represented an originally

Enright s introduction to the Poet s of the 1950s criticized Thomas s poetry on the familiar
ground that it lacked thought: Perhaps the kind of admiration which Thomas received
encouraged him to leave thinking to the New Verse Poets; but poetry is like a human body in
needing bones as well as flesh and blood (Enright, Poet of the 1950s). A similar idea can be
found in Davie s Articulate Energy published in 1955, which looks back to a period in English
history, the eighteenth century , where strong sense was as common as terms as strong feelings .
Davie sees Romantic and Modernist practice as having destroyed meaning and argument into
poetry by over emphasizing the importance of images. He is able to admit that in some poetry
notably that of Ezra Pound such practice has had beneficial effects; but one poet whose pursuit of
images he will not tolerate is Dylan Thomas: a sonnet by Dylan Thomas is unacceptable even on
Hulme s terms. When concrete images are crowded upon each other, they lose their concreteness.
The milk is soured by the magic, the bread has lost its tang, and the clod its volume. The things

CONCLUSION13

INTRODUCTION
A testamentary designation of a guardian is a very common and accepted method for appointing a
legal guardian. Society views the testamentary designations as the selfless act of a responsible
parent to provide for the care of his child. Around the world, especially in the common law
jurisdictions, the concept of testamentary guardianship exists. A parent at times may not be
confident about the ability of the other parent to care for the child properly. This particularly
applies to parents who are separated. Such a parent may wish to appoint a testamentary guardian.
This is all the more important when there is conflict between the paternal and maternal sides of
the family and there is a fear among the family members that if one of the parent dies, that side of
the family would get cut off from the child. It is also very relevant when there is a conflict among
the parents pertaining to religious or educational issues as a testamentary guardian will have a say
in that decision making process. However, even after the appointment of a testamentary guardian, a
parent may drag the issue to court

Episode 4 (Death Runs Riot) In the 1850 s, more American pioneers moved west, bringing with
them slavery that would ignite the Civil War. Tactics that had defeated the armies of the South
would then begin to be used against the Native Americans of the West. In Bleeding Kansas,
abolitionists battle for free soil. In Utah, federal troops march against Mormon their practice of
polygamy. The war between North and South unleashes visceral savagery in the West, and leaves
behind an army prepared for total war against the Native Americans of the plains. Introductory

Julia Lovejoy, an antislavery advocate who had recently moved to Kansas, provides some
narrative unity for the first theme. Her letters, written to relatives in New Hampshire, detail the
horrors of bleeding Kansas. The second theme is told effectively from the perspective of Black
Kettle, the Cheyenne peace chief, whose people were the victims of both Colonel John
Chivington s massacre at Sand Creek, Colorado, and George Armstrong Custer s 1868 attack on
the banks of the Washita River. Individual segments, which could be shown separately or safely
omitted, tell the stories of: Samuel Clemens sharpening his wit in his early years as a reporter in
Nevada City; and John D. Lee, who led the Mormons in a massacre of a wagon train at Mountain
Meadows. This tragic incident, controversial both then and now, is explained in the context of
rising American hostility toward Mormons, and the latter group s fears of the U.S. Army marching
against them toward Salt

Comparing Jessie Owens s Who s for the Game and Wilfred Owens Dulce Est Decorum Est
In Jessie Pope s Who s for the Game? the presentation of war is quite different to what you might

She makes the country more appealing and dependable upon their support when she gives it a

Wilfred Owen is not totally against war, but, as it says at the end of the poem, the old lie: Dulce et

What Does Social Justice Mean To You Essay
When I was six years old I accepted Christ. I grew up in a Christian home and was given a
Christian education. My faith has been a big part of my life. It has gotten me through the good, the
bad and the ugly. There have been dry seasons in my faith, but even in those times God has
remained faithful. Each day Godis teaching me something new about who He is. He is continually
growing me to be more like Him. It is my faith that pushes me to fight for justice. One of my
favorite passages in the Bibleis Psalm 82:2 4, How long will you judge unjustly and show
partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the
afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the
wicked. The Gospel is the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Social justice is in no way the...

He is the one who ultimately brings justice and hope. I am only a helper who is called to
obedience. My life is not my own, but it is God s to do with as He pleases. The work I would do
at IJM would not be of my own doing, but of Christ in me. He is the ultimate healer and world
changer. Since working in this field takes a lot of faith and trust in God, spiritual disciplines are
very important. Over the years, this is something that God has been growing me in. He has
shown me the importance of truly studying His word and writing it on my heart. When I study
His Word, I tend to do it book by book. I will read a certain book multiple times before moving on
to the next book. Each time, Jesus seems to point out something new. Prayer is also another area
where I have grown. I tend to pray all throughout the day. I like being in constant communication
with God. I have learned that prayer is important when combatting human trafficking. There are
situations in which prayer seems to be the only option. I believe everything should be done with

Compare And Contrast The Concentration Of Hydrochloric...
Considering the data and evidence collected from both primary, secondary and additional sources, I
can conclude that my hypothesis, which suggests that the higher the food colouring concentration,
the steeper the gradient of diffusion reaction, is valid. To support my hypothesis I will refer to my
primary, secondary and additional evidence to explain my conclusions in depth.
Firstly, if we consider the data collected in tables from my primary and secondary evidence, we
can see that the values of the range of diffusion reaction are higher when the concentration of food
colouring dye used is higher in percentage. Specifically, when the concentration is at 0%, there is
no diffusion reaction at all. In contrast, as we increase the percentage of food dye used by a
specific set value (+20% each time) the distance (radius or diameter) of food dye formed from
diffusion around the well becomes steeper. For example, 20% of food dye concentration diffused
presents the lowest means: 12.3mm (primary data) and 2.3mm (secondary data, where the radius
has been measured instead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agar is remarkably related. To be specific, diffusion is a process in which substances move down
a concentration gradient, from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration to
reach the equilibrium. When a well is filled with a specific food dye, the well becomes the area of
high concentration. It eventually diffuses through agar, (agar being the region having no
concentration of food dye particles) at a certain rate, depending on the concentration of the food
dye to reach the equilibrium. When doing my practical and collecting data, food dye with higher
concentration diffused through agar had a bigger gradient of diffusion(bigger area around the
wells), which presents higher values exactly as I predicted in my

Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School
How many times have you been asked to spit out your gum in class? Countless, I bet. Most
teachers at Episcopal abide by the policy that gum chewing in class is not allowed. They say it s
inconsiderate. They say it s distracting. They say it has no place in the classroom. These teachers,
however, are overlooking the countless benefits of gum chewing. Chewing gumin class can help
students stay focused, can help students stay active, and can help students perform betteroverall.
Banning gum in school more often than not can cause more harm than good. Gum chewing should
be allowed in class.
Sitting in five classes a day for times ranging from 55 to 70 minutes, it is a battle of the will to
stay on task. Whether distracted by the middle schoolers playing, carefree, on the green or the
clicking of someone s pen, it takes true willpower to not shift focus. What if there was a simple way
to help students with this? It turns out, there is: gum. Kate Morgan, the author of a gum chewing
study in British Journal of Psychology, proved that Interestingly participants who didn t chew gum
performed slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end. This suggests
that chewing gum helps us focus on tasks that require continuous monitoring over a longer amount
of time. It is a true enigma that despite scientific results, Episcopal still bans chewing gum in
school. This year, a plethora of students have aimlessly drifted through never ending science and

Government and Politics
Knowledge will forever govern ignorance, and a people who mean to be their own governors,
must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives. A popular government without popular
information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy or perhaps both.
James Madison ( Focus 1)
The United States has strived to be a true democracy, a place in which the citizens are free to
govern themselves, since its inception. For a democracy to work, the citizens must remain
knowledgeable and elections must remain unbiased. Our current system of electing presidents fails

In 1996, an estimated $400 million was spent on television airtime alone by presidential
candidates and that number is predicted to rise 150% to $600 million in the 2004 elections
(Associated Press 1). The majority of this money is spent by the two largest political parties.
Candidates backed by smaller parties and independent candidates cannot afford the huge cost of
television advertising. By banning television and radio advertising, as they have done in France, we
would allow candidates who cannot afford commercials would to legitimately compete in the
elections (Basham 1).
In addition to making elections too expensive for smaller candidates, the use of thirty second
television commercials as campaign tools has shifted the focus of campaigns from positive plans
for the future to simply offering negative claims about the other candidates. False claims run
rampant in commercials because their is no mediator overlooking them. The networks will air
virtually anything as long as the airtime is paid for. Although there are legal steps that opposing
parties can take to stop false advertising, it takes days or weeks to get a commercial taken of the
air. During that time, millions of people will have seen it and most will have accepted it as truth.
The best defense against false allegations in commercials has become creating more commercials to
counter attack. Of course, all this takes money that candidates do not have unless they are backed
by huge political

The World And A Grand Symbol Of Papal Authority Essay
During the Late Renaissance period, the largest church in the world and a grand symbol of
papal authority was built within the territory of the Vatican City. Principally designed by famous
architects, such as Michelangelo, Donato Bramante, Carlo Maderno and Gian Bernini Lorenzo,
St Peter s Basilica built between 1506 to 1626 is one of the greatest Renaissance architectures
and is regarded as the greatest of all churches of Christendom . Believed to be the site of Saint
Peter s tomb, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and considered to be the first pope, the ground
in which the basilica stands is one of the holiest places in the world. Evidence state that the tomb
of Saint Peter is located directly beneath the altar of the Basilica. Due to being such a holy place,
the Basilica contains many tombs of popes and famous religious sculptures, such as the Pieta of
Michelangelo. Admired for its Renaissance architecture, with a fusion with Baroque architecture
in the later years of building, the Basilica of St. Peter also holds great meaning; thus in order to
emphasize its importance, it took several years to design and completely build the dome (and the
Basilica itself). Consequently, the greatest architects and artists were involved . The Roman public
hall, known as a basilica, is usually a rectangular building with side aisles behind the rows of
columns which support the main walls. The focus of attention is at the end opposite the entrance,
where a raised platform is

Cave Paintings Essay
Creating art is one of the single defining factors that set humans apart from animal species.
Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the
difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. Works
of art can help us to understand the people who have come before us. This is evidenced by the
knowledge humans have discovered of prehistoric men and their symbolic cave paintings. The
expression, style, and meaning vary and archaeologists put in much effort to uncover these works.
The first evidence of cave art appeared in Western Europe (Berenguer 67). Early cave paintings

It is often found to be extremely animalistic. The animals most commonly depicted are horses,
deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and
bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented
(Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify.
They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand
their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside
forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals.
Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches,
often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and
claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The
French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art
representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the
philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave
art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats,
and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into gender
categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are

Malcolm Gladwell s Blink
Can we know something without knowing how we know it? This is precisely the question that
Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating
phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the
decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes
even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection.
One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the

about algebra.
And discuss what they might want to learn more about. Add to wall.
Students will watch a brief introduction video to algebra that will refresh previous knowledge and
get them to start thinking algebraically as there are some questions posed and solved in the
YouTube clip.
Resources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk2KHkLJ_J4 Using the class iPads, students will
explore visual patterns and how numbers can be used to describe the patterns through the Bridge
Builder game.
Students may work individually or in pairs.
This task will introduce the children to increasing sequences through a fun game. They are
required to build a bridge so the truck can cross the water, but as they go, they must identify the
number of beams being used, and how many times the structure must be repeated to complete the
sequence. This data is presented in a table and a graph which allows them to see the emerging
patterns. Adding to the frontloading activity, teach and explore basic ideas of how equations can
relate to visual patterns. This will set them up for the Bridge Builder game.
Explain definitions whenever necessary.
Ask questions to prompt algebraic thinking i.e. What pattern can you see from the table and graph
in the bridge building game.

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in
youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became
interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and
Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college.
After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as
adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal
relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my
experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research
experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research
Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the
psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and
perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude
of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about
tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an
undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

We put our costumes on and checked the address one more time before we left the house. One of

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To The Conservation...
One important contribution that Antoine Lavoisier made to chemistry was the conservation of
mass. In France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law

in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another,
mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will
always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). The law was first identified in the TraitГ©

Dna Profiling Strengths And Weaknesses
DNA profiling is a forensic technique used to identify individuals by characteristics of their
DNA. A DNA profile is a small set of DNA variations that is very likely to be different in all
unrelated individuals, thereby being as unique to individuals as are fingerprints. First developed
and used in 1985, DNAprofiling is used in, for example, parentage testing and criminal
investigation, to identify a person or to place a person at a crime scene, techniques which are now
employed globally in forensic science to facilitate police detective work and help clarify paternity
and immigration disputes. This essay is one that will be discussing DNA profilingstrengths and

Random match probabilities are often so low as to essentially pinpoint an individual as the source
of a bodily substance to the exclusion of all others.
Since the advent of DNA databanks, technical advances in the field of forensic DNA analysis have
shifted from the development of new tests to the development of faster ways of performing
standardized tests through automation.
While blood, semen, and saliva are all rich sources of DNA and are commonly encountered in
casework, DNA can also be profiled from touched or handled surfaces where small numbers of skin
cells have been left behind.
Forensic DNA analysis has more rigorous standards for quality than any other forensic science
discipline.
Multiple testing systems are available to forensic scientists for use under various circumstances,
thereby increasing the likelihood of successfully generating DNA profiles.
Technical procedures for conducting DNA analysis are sound and generally accepted within the
scientific community.
Many large laboratories have implemented robotic technology to automate and speed up portions of
the analysis.

Exempt Employees
There are three main factors that Amy should use to determine whether Jane and her fellow shift
workers are exempt or non exempt. The first element is the salary criteria for the employees
(Vogel et al., 2007). All the states in the United States are covered under the FLSA guidelines and
should compensate the employees accordingly to avoid any possible disputes arising from
employee suing the business for mistreatment. The Non exempt personnel must be rewarded for
the hours they work overtime; the normal working hours for these employees are forty hours in a
week. The exempt employees, on the other hand, are not eligible for payments of any overtime
unless they have an individual agreement with the company. If an employee is salaried by the
company does not mean that they are exempted. The personnel in the organizations under the

Validity of Eyewitness Testimony
Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony In today s court system one of
the strongest pieces of evidence, or that most commonly accepted as fact by a jury, is eyewitness
testimony. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people.
However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found
that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence
in Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith,
Stinson, Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Even with the recent background of cases being overturned on the

Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the
crime as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a
lineup as the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct
identifications will be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992)
conducted a meta analytic review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The
results show that the data supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is
important to recognize that weapon absence or presence is only one of many variables that
investigators recognize as influential in lineup identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420).
Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not
consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they would be ignoring relevant information.
Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can affect the validity of eyewitness
testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found that people are better at
recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus, 1979). When the
eyewitness is of a different race than the suspect, accuracy rates are lower (Smith, Stinson, Prosser,
2004). One possible

miles to watch him practice, in the hope of persuading him to play for their team. Had these
coaches the power to design a prototypical left tackle, Oher s six foot five, 330 pound frame would
have been pretty close to their model. And yet the fact that he was even still at high schoolwas, in
itself, nothing short of a miracle.
The focal point of Michael Lewis s The Blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The condition of his being accepted by his high school was greater academic achievement; unless
his grade point average reaches a certain level, he won t be allowed to go to college no matter how
many coaches are desperate for him to play.
The subject of the relationship between high school sports and educational achievement has
been covered before. Buzz Bissinger s Friday Night Lights , which has since been the inspiration
for a movie and a TV series, followed a high school team in Texas for a season. Far from the
saccharine, wholesome version of schooldays that we are accustomed to, Bissinger painted an
unhappy and controversial portrait of a white community interested in black children only so far
as they could help compete for the state championship; a school with $5,000 for the English
department but $70,000 for travel to away matches; allegations of pain killers being used illegally

Bissinger, who had spent a year in the town, didn t return until 20 years later.
The Blind Side has a more uplifting tale at its heart. Yet this does not stop it from being an
unsettling story. The Tuohys are accused of taking Michael into their lives solely to ensure that he

The Separation Of Gender In The Toy Industry
Retailers across America have had specific ways of marketing products to young children for
several decades. Depending on gender, these products have been advertised and targeted in two
distinct different ways. The most infamous example of this type of practice is in the toy industry.
In almost any supermarket, like Wal Mart, it is possible to find this separation in genderappeal in
each respective toy aisle. Based off these differences, messages that suggest to boys and girls
how they should behave and identify due to their gender can be found. The boys aisle has an
overall theme of blue, correlating with the idea blue represents masculinity. In it, items such as
toy guns, wrestling and super hero action figures, race cars, and sports accessories can be found.
The toy guns, such as Nerf, are exclusively found in the boys aisle because men are
overwhelmingly expected to enjoy activities such as hunting or to enter the military in their later
lives. Boys are thought to and encouraged to idolize wrestling stars and super heroes because of
their bold appearance and brave personalities, something men are seen to strive for.... Show more

Items such as Barbie dolls, baby dolls, ponies, and dresses are located in this section. Barbie dolls
are a staple in female toys market because young girls are taught to aspire to adopt the general
appearance of these dolls to look pretty in a girly way. Dolls of babies that you can feed, clean,
and nurture are exclusively targeted to girls due to America s view that women must take the
largest role in raising children. Horses and ponies are advertised to girls for their grace and
elegance, something part of an ideal girl s demeanor. The dresses also embody the beauty aspect
of Barbie dolls to immerse girls in those concepts. Similarly to male toys, female toys are largely
displayed to girls based on gender assumptions in

At YouTube the use of pythonmakes doing this easier as the dynamic nature of python makes it easier to do. In other words no matter how bad your API is you can stub or modify or decorate your way out of a lot of problems . Other scalability techniques used by YouTube would be to say that they cheated a little or to say instead of data being correct it is approximate correctness. What is meant by cheating is that not all of their servers are consistent at the same time a good example of this is that if a user writes a comment on a video then instead deploying that comment to all servers in the network and keeping all data consistent what they have done at YouTube is they done it so that the system does not have to have globally worldwide consistent transactions. Meaning that when the a user rights a comment on a video he/she sees that comment instantly however someone on the other side of the world may not see that comment for a couple milliseconds, in other words the cheat. The data will be consistent in the end, the comments are not financial transaction therefore it is essential that you know when to cheat, for example if it was a financial transaction where a user is purchasing something then it is not good enough for the data must be consistent. A Comparison Of The Pantheon And The Parthenon Introduction With just a quick glance at pictures taken from a distance of the front of the Pantheon and the Parthenon, one might conclude that they are the same building or the same design. Both have eight Greek inspired columns topped with metopes and a triangular pediment at the entry portico (front). However, any other view and a closer look would reveal substantial differences. Even the condition of the present buildings would indicate that the buildings are from very different times and, of course, very different locations. The Parthenon The Parthenon is a Greek temple constructed in 447 BC. It was designed by the architect/artist Phidias and commissioned by Perikles after the Peliponnesian War to worship the Greek goddess, Athena. Ever since the discovery of the new world, America has always been a melting pot as immigrants from all parts of the world come to America. For an example, in the diary, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford, a group of puritans who journey to the Americas struggle to survive during the cold and harsh winter. Humans have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness, dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations. Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture, the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows. Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales Edgar Allan Poe s critique of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales states, that any author who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself uses (Poe). The Tell Tale Heart is a dark story that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling guilt for killing the old man. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language to survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the same as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the people, not by the language. Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other languages. My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents were both born in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been around for over 2000 years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown. The language of Tamil did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over 100 million people today continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old English, was very different from modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a language that has been able to thrive on its own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb other dialects to survive. That Thomas archetypal symbols seemed vague and obscure to the point of self indulgence impelled them with stronger conviction toward lucid, rational discourse (Perkins 423). A similar idea can be found in Davie s Articulate Energy published in 1955, which looks back to a period in English history, the eighteenth century , where strong sense was as common as terms as strong feelings . Davie sees Romantic and Modernist practice as having destroyed meaning and argument into poetry by over emphasizing the importance of images. Society views the testamentary designations as the selfless act of a responsible parent to provide for the care of his child. Around the world, especially in the common law jurisdictions, the concept of testamentary guardianship exists. A parent at times may not be confident about the ability of the other parent to care for the child properly. This particularly applies to parents who are separated. Such a parent may wish to appoint a testamentary guardian. This is all the more important when there is conflict between the paternal and maternal sides of the family and there is a fear among the family members that if one of the parent dies, that side of the family would get cut off from the child. It is also very relevant when there is a conflict among the parents pertaining to religious or educational issues as a testamentary guardian will have a say in that decision making process. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into gender categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is precisely the question that Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection. One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the process of thought. Our brains, home to both our conscious and unconscious... And discuss what they might want to learn more about. Add to wall. Students will watch a brief introduction video to algebra that will refresh previous knowledge and get them to start thinking algebraically as there are some questions posed and solved in the YouTube clip. Resources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk2KHkLJ_J4 Using the class iPads, students will explore visual patterns and how numbers can be used to describe the patterns through the Bridge Builder game. Students may work individually or in pairs. This task will introduce the children to increasing sequences through a fun game. They are required to build a bridge so the truck can cross the water, but as they go, they must identify the number of beams being used, and how many times the structure must be repeated to complete the sequence. This data is presented in a table and a graph which allows them to see the emerging patterns. Adding to the frontloading activity, teach and explore basic ideas of how equations can relate to visual patterns. This will set them up for the Bridge Builder game. Explain definitions whenever necessary. Ask questions to prompt algebraic thinking i.e. What pattern can you see from the table and graph in the bridge building game. Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). In France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law showing the lasting impression that he made on the world of chemistry (Donovan, 2017). The law, in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another, mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). Since the advent of DNA databanks, technical advances in the field of forensic DNA analysis have shifted from the development of new tests to the development of faster ways of performing standardized tests through automation. While blood, semen, and saliva are all rich sources of DNA and are commonly encountered in casework, DNA can also be profiled from touched or handled surfaces where small numbers of skin cells have been left behind. Forensic DNA analysis has more rigorous standards for quality than any other forensic science discipline. Multiple testing systems are available to forensic scientists for use under various circumstances, thereby increasing the likelihood of successfully generating DNA profiles. The first element is the salary criteria for the employees (Vogel et al., 2007). All the states in the United States are covered under the FLSA guidelines and should compensate the employees accordingly to avoid any possible disputes arising from employee suing the business for mistreatment. The Non exempt personnel must be rewarded for the hours they work overtime; the normal working hours for these employees are forty hours in a week. The exempt employees, on the other hand, are not eligible for payments of any overtime unless they have an individual agreement with the company. Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony In today s court system one of the strongest pieces of evidence, or that most commonly accepted as fact by a jury, is eyewitness testimony. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people. However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence in Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith, Stinson, Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Even with the recent background of cases being overturned on the basis of DNA evidence many years after conviction, eyewitness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the crime as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a lineup as the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct identifications will be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992) conducted a meta analytic review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The results show that the data supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is important to recognize that weapon absence or presence is only one of many variables that investigators recognize as influential in lineup identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420). Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they would be ignoring relevant information. Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can affect the validity of eyewitness testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found that people are better at recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus, 1979). When the eyewitness is of a different race than the suspect, accuracy rates are lower (Smith, Stinson, Prosser, 2004). One possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This fact alone meant that his final years in high school, Oher was the focus of attention of college coaches across America grown men taking detours of hundreds of miles to watch him practice, in the hope of persuading him to play for their team. • 43. The Separation Of Gender In The Toy Industry Retailers across America have had specific ways of marketing products to young children for several decades. Depending on gender, these products have been advertised and targeted in two distinct different ways. The most infamous example of this type of practice is in the toy industry. In almost any supermarket, like Wal Mart, it is possible to find this separation in genderappeal in each respective toy aisle. Based off these differences, messages that suggest to boys and girls how they should behave and identify due to their gender can be found. The boys aisle has an overall theme of blue, correlating with the idea blue represents masculinity. In it, items such as toy guns, wrestling and super hero action figures, race cars, and sports accessories can be found. The toy guns, such as Nerf, are exclusively found in the boys aisle because men are overwhelmingly expected to enjoy activities such as hunting or to enter the military in their later lives.
