INTRODUCTION COVID-19 & TX NH DEATHS
SUMMARY OF CONCLUSIONS
(cont.)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
In a PERFECT WORLD:
• Use more advanced statistical methods
• Look at admission assessments—assess how
sick before patients/residents arrived at NH
• Correlate staffing levels & more quality
indicators
• Look at population-income levels using US
census
• Look at finances within facility vs. profits to
shareholders

Is Medicaid (Payor Mix) Related?
Annette Mulkay
COVID-19 and Texas Nursing Home Residents’ Deaths:
Analysis of Means (ANOVA) with 10 % bins
indicates that nursing home facilities with the
highest percentage of Medicaid patients also had
the highest COVID-19 residents mortality rate (p-
value =.031). The most significant was in the
60%,70%, and 80%.
Univariate regression with clusters in quartiles
indicated that nursing home facilities had a p-value
of 0.072 This exceeded the limit.
The results demonstrate a relationship between the
facility's percent Medicaid and COVID-19 deaths at
the respective 60%, 70%, 80% Medicaid (to
Medicare) payor mix.
However, a post-hoc test such as the Tukey
method should be used to demonstrate variables
are significantly different.
