Course Objectives
 Understand historic background of cell biology.
 Become familiar with the various sub-cellular structures and organelles
inside eukaryotic cells.
 To understand more advanced cellular functions, such as regulation of
membrane transport, cell signaling, cell death and cellular
differentiation.
 To gain experience and understanding of microscope (light and electron
microscope).
 To learn the basic histological techniques for study the tissue and cell.
 To study some pathological conformational features of the cell.
Exams: Students are responsible for at least two exams and a final exam.
Exams will consist of short answer, filling the blanks, true and false, draw and
label, comment writing, and essay-style questions. Students will be examined
on material covered in class and on assigned readings.
Grading: Students grade will be based on their cumulative score from the
exams, quizzes, lab report, seminar and activity in the lab.
Sub final
* Quizzes:
Quizzes involve short exam from previous lab.
3
Practical
Laboratory (15% of total grade)
Exams(at least two) = 10%
Quizzes = 5%
Final marks
Laboratory (20% of total grade)
** Seminar:
Each student will give a short seminar on a subject belong to cell biology. The
subject will be selected by the student but must receive approval from the
instructor. This subject will be graded on content as well as effectiveness.
Final Exam
Laboratory (20% of total grade)
Attendance in laboratory is graded. Attendance at lab is essential to
determine what information to learn. Occasionally, additional material will be
given out from other sources and the students will be held responsible for this
material as well. In the event of absence from lab, a student must assume full
responsibility for the material covered in lab.
Lab coat:
All students will not be allowed to enter the lab without wearing lab coat.
