Antarctica is an island continent of approximately 14,000,000
sq. km, without countries, cities or permanent population. It is
surrounded by the Southern Ocean and does not have any
neighboring countries.
Antarctica is a continent devoted to science related to the
health of planet earth.

There are territorial claims by the United Kingdom, New
Zealand, France, Norway, Australia, Chile, and Argentina;
many of which overlap. They are not official ownership but
merely defacto claims which are under considerable dispute.
Other countries including Brazil, Peru, Russia, South Africa,
Spain and the United States also claim interest in the
Antarctic, but do no have specific territorial claims.

The Antarctic Treaty, which governs the earth south of 60
degrees South Latitude, states that no territorial claims are
acknowledged.

A number of countries operate scientific research bases on
Antarctica.
If you stand on the South Pole in Antarctica,
no matter which way you turn you will
always be facing north!

Very few animals can survive in Antarctica
Antarctica is home to many kinds of
penguins
There are no polar bears in Antarctica,
they live near the North Pole !

  • 25. Antarctica is an island continent of approximately 14,000,000 sq. km, without countries, cities or permanent population. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean and does not have any neighboring countries. Antarctica is a continent devoted to science related to the health of planet earth. There are territorial claims by the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, Norway, Australia, Chile, and Argentina; many of which overlap. They are not official ownership but merely defacto claims which are under considerable dispute. Other countries including Brazil, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Spain and the United States also claim interest in the Antarctic, but do no have specific territorial claims. The Antarctic Treaty, which governs the earth south of 60 degrees South Latitude, states that no territorial claims are acknowledged. A number of countries operate scientific research bases on Antarctica.
