COSTUME DESIGN
O The way the actors are dressed and appear to
the audience is important as this represents
their character within the film/trailer and gives
the viewer an idea of their personality.
Additionally the way in which we present the
character in the trailer sets the scene and
additionally, helps to show change in the
theme throughout the trailer - from start to
finish. For example the changes made to
Toms costume and make-up highlights that
his personality altered throughout and
became more and more sinister as he began
to undergo possession as a result of being
bullied.
TOM VANDAMME (THE VILLAIN)
CLOTHING/COSTUME – Tom, for his role has been put in all dark (black) clothing.
This is so that his costume matches his evil, dark thoughts and also suggests to the
viewer straight away that he is the villain.
MAKE-UP – Tom is naturally pale however to make him more pale we used a bit of
powder on his skin towards the end of the trailer to show he got progressively worse
(more evil and sinister) and this also helped us show he was possessed.
Most of the time his identity was hidden to a certain extent adding to the horror
scene and the idea of anonymity which tends to draw the viewer in.
OLLIE GRAINGER - BULLY
CLOTHING/COSTUME – Ollie’s character is presented in the trailer wearing relaxed
clothing which may be associated with the personality of a ‘chav’. This matches his
character as it adds to his intimidating personality and makes him look ‘hard’.
Additionally the brands he wears (Nike and Fred Perry) are linked with the ‘chav’ culture
and even though they are expensive they link to the working class subculture in society.
MAKE-UP – Ollie, like Becca cares about his appearance. For example his beard is
cleanly shaven and his skin is clear. In the trailer, however we didn’t necessarily put
make-up on him as his character needed to appear slightly rough looking to match his
bullying character.
HAIR – His hair is gelled and neatly set – this yet again matches the idea that he cares
for his appearance and that he wants people to look up at him in aspiration.
REBECCA WAY (BULLY AND FIRST KILLING)
CLOTHING/COSTUME – casual and sporty. This suggests she is involved with
physical activity showing she cares for her appearance and also wants to make
herself appear intimidating to others when carrying out acts of bullying by building
up her strength.
MAKE UP – wears make up to look appealing to males – shows her promiscuous
side. Additionally, yet again she cares for her appearance and what others think of
her. This suggests that, she is putting a front up when bullying to hide her
insecurities – when deep down this isn't her true self.
HAIR – Her hair is often curled or neatly tied up – this matches her make-up and
yet again reinforces that she cares for her appearance and like to make girls feel
intimidated by her appearance.
