This document provides an overview of corrosion and its economic importance. Corrosion is the deterioration of materials due to chemical reactions with their environment. It affects all engineering materials but is particularly important for metals. While corrosion destroys about 5 tons of steel per second globally, costing an estimated 4% of GDP, protective measures can help control corrosion rates and extend the lifetimes of metallic structures. The document introduces basic corrosion concepts and phenomena.

The compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of Reactive Powder concrete are all
investigated in this study (RPC). The lack of ductility in ordinary concrete is considered a key concern in this
research. RPC is being explored as a solution for the aforementioned challenge as the building industry's
technology advances. Cement, sand, water, admixture, and superplasticizer are all included in the RPC. The
reactive powder concrete mixture is made by changing the percentages of super plasticizer (2%, 3% and 4%),
silica fumes (10%, 20%, and 30%), while maintaining the dose of quartz powder constant. At the outset of this
study, compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength targets of 140-160Mpa, 20-30Mpa, and
15-20Mpa were set. However, due to a change in material qualities that were locally accessible and of low
quality, the results produced after the investigation were unsatisfactory to get the findings, the RPC was mixed,
cast, cured, and tested in the concrete laboratory using three different mix proportions.
150mmX150mmX150mm cube, 500mmX100mmX100mm beam, and 150mm diameter and 300mm height
cylinder are all made of fresh concrete. The casted RPC is then cured in a water tank at room temperature for 7,
14, and 28 days before being oven dried for 24 hours at 60 degrees Celsius. The final results were documented
and discussed, as well as conclusions and recommendations based on the findings.

As a highly toxic element at an elevated concentration, Ni(II) can pose a serious threat to our ecological environment as well as human being. Ni(II) adsorption from wastewater is a must for environmental management and sustainability. Remediation of Ni(II) contaminated water is possible through adsorption onto various innovative adsorbents from the aquatic environment. The current review looks at the present status of the research done so far Ni(II) adsorption using various adsorbents from wastewater. Ni(II) adsorption kinetics, edges, isotherm, thermodynamic parameters, and Ni(II) adsorption mechanism have also been talked over. Efforts have also been made to steer out of the advantages and disadvantages of adsorbents and the future research need in Ni(II) adsorption by adsorbents. Agricultural based substrates and nanosized metal oxides have been found a hopeful alternative for Ni(II) adsorption from wastewater. The Ni(II) primarily adsorbed ontoa homogeneous substrate forming a monolayer. Ni (II) generally formed outer-sphere complexes at low pH values while it formed inner-sphere complexes at higher pH. More than one species is being sorbed, or more than one type of surface site is involved in Ni(II) adsorption process or both. However, significant research is needed to understand Ni(II)-surface interaction mechanism at the solid-water interface. This review can fill the lacuna of researchers who would like to do more research in this related area in depth.

In 2006 the European Union issued a Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) which among other materials banned the use of lead in electronics. The Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industry in the US designs and manufactures products that carry more than three billion passengers worldwide on any given day as well as systems which are vital to our national security. In order to transition to lead-free electronics the A&D industry demands careful analysis and research into the performance, reliability and safety of these materials in order to maintain public safety and assure our war-fighters’ mission success is not compromised or risked. In this effort the College of Engineering at Tuskegee University and the Boeing Company has teamed to fill some of the many knowledge gaps that surround this new technology. Researchers at Tuskegee are undertaking an effort to understand the growth mechanism associated with the formation of tin whiskers and how to mitigate these risks. Since the formation of binary compounds are suspected of causing fractures in these new Pb-free solder alloys, Tuskegee is studying the migration of binary compounds in a root cause investigation. Also Tuskegee is studying the effects tin whiskers may have on the ability of conformal coatings to protect Circuit Boards from corrosion.

Orientation Effects of Stress Concentrators on the Material Deformation Beha...IJMER
Present investigation pertains to carry out to experimental work to generate data in order to
establish the mode of material deformation and fracture in AISI 316 stainless steel strips of 1.70mm thickness in
the presence of elliptical notches at the center of the specimen whose major axis were designed to incline to the
tensile axis at an angle of 0o
, 45o
and 90o
and the same happens to be the axis of rolling. An elliptical hole of
8.00mm (major axis) with 5.0mm (minor axis) were machined in each specimen so as to correspond to the above
angles of 0o
45o
and90o
and one specimen without any elliptical hole as a notch for comparative analysis of the experimental data. These flat specimens with and without stress concentrators were tested under tension using Hounsfield Tcnsomctcr and the changes in notch geometry have been recorded at various loadings. Further, the visual appearance of the cracks initiation have been continuously observed and recorded. The effect of stress ratio factors and the strain ratio parameters on the mode of fracture on material deformation in and around the stress concentrator has been thoroughly analyzed and it has been established that the crack initiation began either at the inner tips of the minor or the major axis of the elliptical stress concentrator, but, always perpendicular to the direction of loading irrespective of the rolling direction and the orientations of the stress concentrators. However, the changes in the rotation of the major and the minor axis of the elliptical stress concentrators were found to alter, and, this alteration in fact assisted in estimating the strains along the major as well as the minor axis of the stress concentrators. Relation between a plastic strain ratio with respect to the ratio between the major and the minor strains was observed to be of extremely complex nature. The overall observation in the present investigation has indicated that thin strips or sheet specimens containing a single or multiple or a combined type of stress concentrators will create a keen interest in the research approach of the investigators and make them aware of the seriousness of the presence of the stress concentrators and caution them to incorporate any possible design notifications in order to avoid any catastrophic failure (s).
A WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK FOR MONITORING ATMOSPHERIC AGGRESSIVENESS IN METALSijasuc
Humid tropical climate favours the existence of a corrosive atmosphere that causes deterioration of metals.
This article describes an automated system for monitoring environmental values (temperature and relative
humidity) in order to know the time of wetness (TOW), which is key factor in determining the atmospheric
aggressiveness which are exposed the metals used, for example, in industrial facilities. System is
implemented on a wireless sensor network and the main function of the software developed is to count the
time of wetness which is considered the effective time in which metals corrode. System was designed
considering the user requirements as the selection of the frequency of measurements, the calculation of
TOW and verification of the residual energy of sensor nodes. The results show the effectiveness of the
technology used, so that, we can conclude that this type of networks represent a feasible alternative for
automated monitoring of corrosion in metals.
Degradation of Low Density Polyethylene Due To Successive Exposure to Acid Ra...Editor IJCATR
Utilization of polymer products for outdoor applications is continuously increasing. So the stability of polymers against
environmental degradation became top of interests for many researchers. The effect of environmental elements on the polymers stability
has been studied, but individually. A solution against an environmental element may conflict with a solution against other element.
Therefore current study aimed to clarify a sort of these conflicts, by successive exposure of low density polyethylene (LDPE) films to
acid rains and ultra violet (UV) radiation for different times. The used LDPE films are selected from the commercial grads which are
used for plants greenhouses, in order to use samples fully protected against environmental elements. It is found that acid rains etch PE
films, causing removal for some of the UV stabilizer additives, and hence UV radiation could attack PE films seriously causing remarked
oxidative degradation. This study includes wide comparisons between effects of acid rain only, UV irradiation only, acid rain followed
by UV irradiation and UV irradiation followed by acid rain exposure. Variations in the chemical composition, morphological structures,
thermal and mechanical properties are detected by the IR- spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and
tensile tests. A new view for the differentiation between degradations caused by acid rains and UV radiation is discussed. Lot of
experimental data are given in many coloured graphs and tables

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
